I shop the sales, and stock up. I'd rather pay the lowest price, rather then whatever the price is that week. Study your circulars - you'll notice a pattern.
Back in the 1960s (I know a long time ago) I spent 12 dollars a week for me and my first husband. He thought I was spending too much and decided to go with me and show me how to save. WELLLLL we got to the checkout and the bill was over 40 dollars!! He sure showed me! Just one of the many reasons I divorced him- thought he was always right and so smart. So yes I and my grown daughter go grocery shopping together to save gas but we are shopping for our own households.
This made me chuckle Joyce. You were slaying it at $12 a week! Impressive!
@@nicole1184 Thanks Nicole, still am, although just a tad more a week than 12 dollars for groceries-LOL and my husband never goes with me to the store! Guess I married a wiser man this time!
I hope you laughed in his face, loudly, and in front of the whole store, when the cashier had done counting everything up!
@@thebestwillow I wish I had. But I can tell you this I stood there with a BIG smile on my face as he had to keep taking things out of the cart until the total came to how much money he had on him.
@@Joyce-id3dr great.
I love that show. They still air it here sometimes. I like to go grocery shopping first thing in the morning when it's super quiet and I can pretty much run down the aisles with my cart.
Another tip to avoid "impulse buys" and to stay on budget is to do grocery pickup. Order and pay online so you can actually see what you're spending as you add to cart. Plus it's convenient and not time consuming like in store shopping is and for mama's that work and are raising small children it's a game changer!
My budget has stayed the same for the last 8 years, and I refuse to put it up, we just buy better and or cheaper
In the UK you can self scan all your groceries while you walk round the store. It’s great!
I shop for the week and ordering to pick up has saved $$$. I do not impulse buy this way. The less trips to the stores saves $$$ too. Thanks for the tips. I have done the timer idea with my boys to se how quickly we can get out of the store.
My husband is actually a pretty good grocery shopper so I like him to go with me to the grocery store. Great video, as usual.
We write a grocery list out in the order we find the items at our grocery store. We are co-op members and we shop there every time
Tressa, that is a great idea
Great tips, Jennifer. Agree on finding the particular store in a chain that works for you. I have 22 Aldi's within a 10 mile radius. Luckily my favorite is also the closest. I LOVE to shop so I will never get down to less than once a week, but I'm a great planner (in my head - NOT a list-writer), and shop while planning around what's in season and on sale. Meat prices are what's getting me right now. I buy from a local farmer, and their costs have been going up quickly. To help we've started eating less meat, and really don't even notice it!! And yes, loved Supermarket Sweep!! I'm not good at quick shopping though. 🥵
So guilty of food shopping for my fantasy self. The result is lots of veg rotting in my fridge.
I have my kitchen Inventory on my phone.
Fruits, vegetables & frozen proteins, cooked & uncooked.
Carbs Azo, Rice, Quinoa.
etc. I can meal plan so easily. Also see when I need to add to the shopping list or pass on a sale because I have enough.
Shopping alone is easier so you get what's on your list only BUT it is nice to have my husband along so he can understand why I shop for items. When other members in your family do not usually shop, they are unaware HOW MUCH things cost and how adding even a few items will add up quickly.
Ready to take the tips on board! 📝 😄 thank you
Yes, I watched Supermarket Sweep! I really liked it. Thanks for the great tips!
I definitely prefer to shop alone. If my husband goes shopping alone he will go waaaay over budget. I’ve found that doing grocery pickup saves me the most. I am not tempted by items not on my list.
Hi Ruby! I hope you are doing well!
Supermarket sweep yes friend
THanks Jennifer Cook ❤️🙏🇺🇸
I love supermarket sweep!!! 🛒 💨 Running around 100 miles an hour with those carts was sooo funny!!! Another Great video!
Thanks for the great tips Jennifer 👍 I especially like the idea of writing headings for different sections of the supermarket- I try and put like items together but always end up having to go back on myself to get something I've forgotten so hopefully this will be a time saver and a money saver as if you re-visit an area there's more chance you'll see something else that you don't need but want so it'll help with possible impulse purchases 😉
I used to love Supermarket Sweep! My son used to watch with me when he was growing up.
Ordering on line is nice because you can see what the total is as items are added. I also have the apps of the three main grocery stores in my area. I can check the sales flyer for sales, and then check the apps. to make sure it is really the lowest price.
Yes ! Love that show !
Excellent tips. Thanks so much!
🤗
I am the only one in the store using a caulator. But I take cash so I don't go over my budget. I also go to up to 4 stores and get sale items.
OMG! “Fantasy self@ 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have a separate bank account for consumables. I always shop monthly and have that very limited budget so I always use my calculator on my phone. That's the only card I take with me so I have to stick to that budget. If my husband comes with me and wants something, it goes on his account....so usually he is good to let me go on my own. LOL
I shop online and top up with hubby on our day out. I work to a strict budget so I put things in the basket and once I get beyond the basics, if I add something then something else goes. I start the day we have our delivery, and start buying for the following week. I go into the order 3 or 4 times over the week, adding and subtracting as ideas come and then I decide are too expensive for that week
Thanks Jennifer, your channel hasn’t been showing up on my phone Katy??? I am absent minded so my regulars get pushed away and I have gotten a bunch of different one😵💫😵💫. You give the best advice
While in the store, set your phone timer for 25 - 30 minutes to will let you know it is time to wrap it up and leave.
Yes. My partner seems incapable of price comparison even in the same shop, so it's best to go without her.
Good information.
Great tips 😁 thank you
Thank you so much Sarahi!
Could you do your Aldi favorites video?
Warning Know your prices! Once while doing my big shop, on the end cap, they were hey!look canned green beans in sale, the price seemed high to me, so back track,I checked the green bean price a few isle iver! Those were $2.00 cheaper per can! Hubs & children leaned a kesson that day!
I prefer to shop alone !
My stores haven't increased prices for anything I normally buy. My situation might be unusual because I moved from a high cost of living city to a lower one, though I'm at the same grocery chain. Food in this area is actually a lot cheaper. We got avocados for 37 cents a pound a couple weeks ago when the avocado price increase was all over the news.
Our petrol ⛽️ 🚗 reached a record high today. €2 per litre (€7.57 per gallon) 😫
Amy Mccarthy, Are you in Ireland? Shocking prices. But Leo & Pascal will save us.
@@lynnettemurphy8243 I am indeed. We’ll be waiting I’d say!😆
My liquid detergent has went up by 2 dollars a jug.
Yikes!
I started adding a little bit of water to my liquid detergent, still works great.
@@debratosch9898 yes I think you can use less than what they say on the bottle and it still washes fine.
Does the USA not have online grocery shopping?
Yes we do. I think she mentioned ordering for pickup in the video.
@@Song-Girl-Still-Singing is it just pick up or also delivery?
@@angelwings1 it's both. Pickup is free, but delivery usually has a fee.
So true! Btw, a clicker is easier than a calculator
What do you mean a "clicker"?
Check Amazon Tally Clicker
My Ibotta app stopped working. I've reached out to them. Anybody else having trouble?
Jen that makes sense bc my password stopped working and I couldn't reset it!
By the way 5 marriages later and divorce I guess he hasn't changed much-LOL
Hi Jennifer 👋
Hi Maria!🤗
If in doubt about a person's pronouns, best to use "they/them/their".
