The Tories time is finally up, but the damage they've caused is irreparable.
Weirdly EVERYTHING has suddenly got better.

@@TheGava4 No, I'm staying in the country I pay taxes to live in. Sorry to disappoint you.
Has Graham Brady received the requisite number of letters to trigger a leadership contest? Rishi Sunak may be in a no-win situation and call a general election that he is going to lose rather than be ignominiously kicked out. I dare say he is packing for California regardless.
The whole country will breathe a collective sign of relief when the election is called. After that, we need to revert back to the Fixed Term Parliament Act, we can never again be held hostage by a Prime Minister like this.
We had FTPA... But then Johnson changed it.
Such a disastrous PM
Should be an automatic general election as soon as PM resigns
@@GuinessOriginal One snag with that, the PM would never be made to resign. The MPs of the party in power would never force him/her out as they would stand a chance of losing their seat.

After David Cameron legged it out of office, there was this rumour mill about Johnson becoming Tory leader. He even held a press conference. Then during the press conference he said the time wasn't right for him to become Tory leader (Nadine Dorries was on the verge of tears).
This feels like that. I'll believe there will be an election when it's announced, not when there are rumours or there's a lot of stuff going on in the Tory part
Hopefully soon though, then the Tory party can rename itself the Teeny Tiny Tory party.
I think Count Binface might win this one.

I always get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach when this happens, like when Americans with Trump. Please all Labour turn out & put this government into history.
have to say. PMQs did indeed seem weirdly tame and drawn out
I thought that too. It seemed weird, the tories sitting listening to KS solemnly declaring the end of 'covering up' and all the backdoor tricks that have been such a part of Tory rule recently. It took me way back to when PMQ's was not a circus, when the grown-ups were in charge....
I suspect Sunak is trying to stay on until at least the 31st of July, as otherwise his term as PM would be shorter than that of Anthony Eden.
Respectfully, I think that might be a bit of a reach. Politically speaking, what real value would that have?

Inflation will go down, and interest rates will also.
All the signs are there more than any previous time. Just this morning if you said "oh there's a rumour of an election" my reply would have been "oh like the last 20 plus rumours in recent months that fizzled out?"
But this time around there are several factors that Marr highlighted as well as a bit of a 'tease' in response to Flynn at PMQ's where Sunak said 'spoiler alert: second half of the year' which isn't the way to rule it out as we come to the final days where a July election can still be called. Quashing it then and there would have made sense on the same day where an election being called IS actually the best possible time the Tories might actually have with the economic news. But instead people are talking about an election and forgetting about the news already. And he's visiting the King... why? Why today? Why so suddenly?

The British Prime Minister appeared in the middle of the rain wet, apparently there was no umbrella there to shelter him and announced the new elections for Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, called for July 4, 2024. In the middle of the embers, it may make sense to hold on to a burning nail. Rishi Sunak has taken advantage of the drop in inflation in the United Kingdom last April to 2.3% to clear up the great political doubt of recent months. The British Prime Minister announced this Wednesday an advance of the general elections - until now scheduled for the autumn - for July 4, 2024. While the polls give a comfortable victory to the Labor opposition, there is a general consensus in the country in around the increasingly real possibility that Keir Starmer will be the next tenant of Downing Street. Sunak's movement, sheltered by economic data that predicts a meager improvement in the country, is rather interpreted as the way to put an end to the final agony of more than 14 years of Tory governments, as the Conservative Party is commonly called.
honestly, I think Labour should sit this election out and let Tories sort their own mess.
