Great job from the round up with the dogs to catching the dog's breath in the footage. Liked the comment of hiking through everything and seeing what is happening to our environment. Opening up to possibilities was a great comment. Split screen editing and awesome drone footage. Looking forward to Colorado.

What a wonderful change in scenery which has obviously changed the disposition of your trail souls. I sense an eagerness now not seen before in both of you. May good fortune find your feet.

We were certainly eager to be entering the mountains. Now it seems that the longer we are out here the more enjoyable it’s becoming.

Once again visually stunning. Not sure if it's you getting better or maybe you've trained me to appreciate more. But man👍. Congratulations on the rebuilding, good choice.

Really appreciate the introspection from both of you as you look back over the journey thus far. So glad you both chose to rebuild. As always, love the drone perspective. The lupine, spiderweb, dog's breath are beautiful.

great videos of your hike, mind, body, and soul. Your videos capture some of the wonders of New Mexico, as you both took us from the desert landscapes to the high country of New Mexico.

Love your videos so far! The spiritual and mental meanings behind it really moved me. Keep making them as they are prolly the most well filmed CDT videos this year!

I thought one of your dogs has some cattle dog in them. Now I know. New Mexico is called the land of enchantment. Us New Mexicans see that and know that. It does have some transformative energies that I see you experienced. A real cleansing for the rest of the trip.

I think unfortunately or maybe fortunately we brought a lot of bad energy of our own into New Mexico and it was a good place to help us shed some of that stuff.

It's really cool to see Amy smile reaching Colorado. The dogs definitely wanted another burger. The views are spectacular. The destruction of nature is disgusting with humans doing the damage. Be safe!

I like the videos and I still gave it a thumbs up but I was surprised and disappointed you let the dogs go charge the cattle.

Really inspired to watch you guys battle your demons. Especially through New Mex. Very spiritual place on earth. I’m from there and met a man named Hob walking the trail back in 15’ . I guess I was his trail angel because I gave him a ride back from town to his last stop spot. I’ve thought about him and have wondered if I could make the hike. Watching your videos the last couple days has put me into a place where I feel need to confront my own demons. I feel like I’m not sure how but I want to drop what I’m doing and accomplish this challenge . Thank you both .

Funny how you accidentally become a trail angel haha. I think that happens to a lot of people just because they are being kind to a stranger. Good luck if you decide to hike and/or confront your own demons, we all have them. Don't expect things to get better right away, in fact they might get worse when you bring up old problems. It'll be worth it in the long run though!

Unfortunately, the CDT does not go through the "scenic" areas of New Mexico, it goes through the desert mostly and avoids all the incredible mountains. NM has over 200 peaks above 10,000' and you only climbed one of them, Mt Taylor. To the east of the CDT are huge mountain ranges full of snow capped peaks and alpine lakes. I wish the CDT went there but it doesn't. Sorry you didn't get to see what NM is all about.

The ranchers are allowing hikers to cross their land. That permission can be revoked. They are very protective of their cattle and might not appreciate letting your dogs run after them. It stresses the cattle. Take care.

    • @craiggulley
      @craiggulley 3 роки тому

I agree with you about the dogs as you can see my comments above, but just to be clear the CDT does not cross any private land, it is a national scenic trail and therefore 100% public. In fact the ranchers graze the cattle on our public lands with our (through the BLM and various other public agencies) permission

We learned that New Mexico is a “fence out” state. Which means that cattle are allowed to roam wherever they want. If you don’t want cattle on your land then you have to put up a fence to keep them out. In this case we were on national forest land. I’m sure those cows are used to dealing with coyotes and other predators all the time, so they didn’t seem too bothered by the dogs.

@@WildernessMindset You’re deep in cattle country. For the safety of your dogs, it helps to know the laws. Here is just one quote regarding this subject. “Many U.S. states have laws-which may go back over a hundred years-allowing farmers, ranchers, and others to kill dogs that are chasing, harassing, or attacking their livestock. Even without these statutes, however, it's long been a common-law rule that people may kill dogs when it's necessary to protect their property, including livestock. (See, for instance, Brauer v. English, 21 Mo. App. 490 (1886).)
A farmer or rancher usually doesn't have to wait until a dog has sunk its teeth into a calf or lamb. Most laws allow killing a dog that is chasing, "worrying," or preparing to attack livestock.”
Your other major safety concern for your dogs are trained working cattle dogs. I watched them work in 2019. They are incredibly fast. They are all teeth and lean muscle.
You can’t go wrong treating all animals - both wild and domestic with respect and giving them a wide berth.
      Take care.

If your dogs aren’t trained well enough to know not to chase cows, they need to be on a leash.
