  • This is a video we recorded of a JLG 1850SJ going up to max height which is 185 ft. This rig is not for someone with a faint stomach when it comes to heights. Filmed with GoPro Hero 4 Black. This is a reupload from our other channel. This version is sped up to get more to the point.

    If I was the one going up on that machine on a windy day. I would all of a sudden start showing covid-19 symptoms.

    I’ve used 100s of times, but never @185ft. That takes control, balls, and a harness

      Well, to be fair, any boom lift requires a harness. But yeah, the difference between a 120 and a 185 is huge.

      @@carterclaire7176bull! The lift rental place won’t even drop it if you don’t show proof of a harness where I live. And working on a lift you’re exposed. And inspector or osha employee can see you.

      I got stuck half way in one before because it was malfunctioning. Actually it was this model lol. Testing it and wasnt working properly then when trying to go down it would buck.

      There are safeties that can be operated by ground crew to get the basket back down.
      ua-cam.com/video/kmjeGFlpMU0/v-deo.html
      This isn’t the same model, but they all have similar lowering systems.
      I’d say I’d just rappel down, but if i was at 185ft, I’d need 35 more feet of rope.🤷🏻

    Doesn't really look like 185' . But I wouldn't go up that high on that thing unless that thing was anchored to the ground

    I drove a snorkel fire apparatus for HFD back in the 1970's. I thought that was tall! Watching this video sure brought back some memories. Things have sure changed.

    So firefighters can’t have something built like this to help put out the taller buildings on fire?? Especially in the UK??

    • @slorge13
      @slorge13 3 роки тому +1

      It would be one thing to get up that high but to bring a decent flow of water with you would be nearly impossible. If you are talking about it being used to rescue people it would be incredibly time consuming and dangerous to rescue people with. It’s definitely a good thought though. It’s just the physics behind it all are too much of a concern.

      These things weigh around 50,000 pounds and need to be transported by a semi truck and an oversized load permit. By the time it is loaded, gets there, and is unloaded, most people in need of rescue would likely be dead
