@@Adam-zh4hm italy played brilliant football on the way to winning the Euros, Spinazzola was player of the tournament until his injury in the quarter final as a brilliant attacking left back, they won every group game convincingly without conceding. Had one of the best centre back partnerships in world football over past 10-15 years and outclassed an excellent Belgium scoring great goals throughout the tournament, Chiesa, Insigne being on fire. Few hairy moments against Spain and Austria but Italy were objectively the best team the entire tournament.

Tbf most of us aren’t complaining, we’re a bit bemused at how we’ve managed to get here but extremely happy about it!! At the same time we’ve been disappointed so many times before that we’re scared to get our hopes up lol, especially because Spain seem terrifying
What happened with the dutch wasn't inexplicable, they stopped pressing exploiting Kanes inability to run of the shoulder, resulting in england having no shots for 40+ minuites, then Ollie watkins came on they didn't restart the press and conceded to a on the shoulder run.
I will never say this again... Southgate made a substitution that won a game ... For tactical reasons.
If Southgate was that smart Watkins would've had a lot more game time before his 80th minute appearance against the Dutch. Also the Dutch didn't really need to press Kane in the second half he was so deep he was practically doing their job for them, we looked good in the first half because we had the extra man in midfield, I wonder what might've been if Watkins had been playing in the first half.
Inexplicable was half of Refs decisions that game, but that don't seem to bother much when you're rooting for England.

I don't think there's a single person who was watching that game to the 80th minute that thought Ivan Toney was the answer. Watkins is the one that runs in behind, and the game was crying out for exactly that.

I really don't understand how we're here. I've been doubting them the entire time; had no confidence in the team selection, and the group performances were shocking. Most people I knew hated the performances and wanted us to fail. This team and manager are bloody lucky! IMO

Im assuming Ivan Toney wasnt put on because its really hard to hold the ball up when your against van dijk. Van dijk will just dominate the air so Ivans impact is lessoned. Van Dijk since the acl injury has lost a lot of his pace so Watkins, a pace merchant, is excellent against Netherlands backline.

I think England has to be careful defending corner kicks . Same player from Holland missed few shots and he was unmarked for those header.

While to like their playing style or not is a subjective matter, the fact remains that they made it to the final with fair and square results. And for that I strongly think that they deserve to be in the final. Yes they have faced opponents who on paper are weaker than the ones faced by Spain, but those small teams did show their strength with their performance against the stronger teams. While they had undoubtedly had their moments of luck, to say that they are purely lucky may be a bit undermining. You can't have those luck moments without prvoiding some quality performance.

On a slightly more serious note. I would really like to see TAA on that RB slot instead of Walker. If he has players that are willing to make runs and not just stand still to receive the ball, he can be really, really dangerous. Though it almost seems like Southgate doesn't know how to use him.

It's the second time Gareth Southgate leading England to the final, I just don't understand why too many critics appointed to him.

Because he has a 19% win rate against top 10 teams and the best side he’s beaten in a knockout tournament is an end of an era German side in Euro 2021 (on paper, because Denmark in Euro 2021 played far better than Germany, but are ranked much lower).

@@robertoperez4118England had plenty of shots against the Netherlands though. They’re getting good exactly when they need to. Before that they just matched the energy of the teams they met. They neutralised Switzerland, who were usually a dangerous attacking team and against England played defensively the whole time. England have been playing against low block teams the whole tournament which is part of the reason they’ve been struggling. Eg against Switzerland, they had tons of shots which would’ve been on target but got blocked by great defending.

The reason the first half worked well is the Dutch CB’s gave us loads of room as they held back due to lack of pace. As soon as they changed this up second half we were back to going square and back to Pickford until Watkins came on and actually ran into space behind. Kane being tired and injured has made it difficult for England to break through when teams play higher up and crowd the midfield.
I’m sorry, but I will forever argue that if lucky was a person, his name would be Gareth Southgate. This guy is the luckiest person on earth because his tactics suck big time but somehow, he has all these accolades. He’s just so lucky, not only because he led England to these finals, but also because he has one of the most talented England squads we’ve ever seen and an incredibly talented pool to choose his squad from.

The one consistency throughout Southgates teams is a good defence. If we concede it's usually one goal, which gives us a chance for an equaliser at least. I think that's why it's tough to drop Kane, he'll get you a goal, which will either be the equaliser or the winner.
Yep, the last competitive match we conceded two in was that QF against France, otherwise the group stage against Iran, but otherwise we never concede more than one goal. Unlike before, this is a team that doesn’t mind going down and knows how to stage a comeback from behind (arguably plays better if they concede first lol). I was weirdly glad when the Dutch scored, because it made me more confident than I would’ve done if England had scored first

Makes baffling selection decisions that it's clear on the pitch aren't working but sticks with them 'Kieron Trippier' Watches from the sidelines as his team who should be bossing games, come under increasing pressure and then waits far too late to make the changes that should have changed the game twenty minutes earlier.
