    As a former college student, who has had to pay for so many expensive psychology textbooks that authors change one word so they can reprint a new edition... I know this is going to be the reason for the textbooks to claim they need a new edition to the book, except this time it is valid.
    Also remember those “access codes”. Such a scam. But you needed it to pass.

    • @keyarca
      @keyarca 6 років тому +18

      Exactly!! These people are taking public numbers and presenting their ideas based on those public numbers. They're not trying to shove a rhetoric down your throat and make you a mindless zombie. They want people to go out there for themselves, look and evaluate the facts themselves, and come to their own conclusions. They are the ones fighting for indivdual thought!! Based on the stupidness coming out of David's mouth, I doubt he's actually sat through a whole Steven Crowder or Milo Video.
      Edit - Seems like David was essentially saying that statistics don't mean anything which is just even more stupid.

    the study was very invalid from the start. when they interviewed the students acting as guards, a lot of them behaved the way they did because they thought that’s how they’re supposed to behave, suggesting that this was never their true behaviour and how they don’t just “naturally” abuse their power.

    • @ebpthiccpapayas8724
      @ebpthiccpapayas8724 6 років тому +1

      very true, but there is still a lot to be said about the difference in playing the part and over stepping boundaries.
      im going to use a VERY extreme example. imagine being part of an experiment of a study of date rape. the date rape drug isn't real and you play the date raper. you know you're being watched and the study will end at any point things go south. playing the part of the rapist at what point to you stop? nobody has stopped the experiment yet, the person is "drugged" and on the bed, should you continue? at what point do you say "this isn't right"
      that was extreme but the connection is the poor treatment of another human for the sake of playing the part correctly

    What I am questioning is how credible the source is that originally published the article? To debunk a psychological study would require conclusive evidence, so I question the validity of the article. Joe and David chose not to look into employment opportunities for what they majored in and chose not to look into other areas within those fields and what is required. That was their own ignorance and they can't blame the field or college for their own faults. Also, to have a bachelors degree in sociology and psychology is too broad to get a job in those fields. At the undergrad level you learn everything as a whole about the fields, but if you want to be a therapist or conduct experiments, etc., that requires specific areas of learning and courses that undergrad just doesn't provide. You are required to get a masters degree and focus on one specific area of sociology/psychology. I am a school psychologist with a bachelors, masters and educational specialist degree. I have a lot of debt, but I am happy with my career choice. It is your responsibility as a student to conduct research in the field you major in and no one else's. So if you major in psychology and sociology and come senior year realize you need to continue your schooling, that is your problem for not planning for the next stage in life.

      I absolutely agree with you on every point. To be fair though, I feel that Joe and David may have exaggerated their feelings to their majors. There may be some grains of truth in how they feel about their degrees but everything they do and say is turned up to 11 for entertainment here on UA-cam. Another thing that I want to say is that, while I too question the credibility of their source article, this is not the first time that the Stanford Prison Experiment has been scrutinized. Sounds like you have studied this experiment on some form or fashion at one point so I think we can booth agree that this was a poorly designed experiment. There was no control, a small sample size, and was highly unethical. I would not call it a 'fraud' but a combination of sensationalism through the media as well as academic research illiteracy prevalent throughout the population that has made this way bigger then it should have been imo.

    • @keyarca
      @keyarca 6 років тому +1

      Stated perfectly!! I am going into a degree that many see as useless, but I know that it is a degree that I will enjoy and aid me (although not directly) in the jobs I hope to have in the future. As you said, it comes down to their ignorance and failure to do research before hand.

    I really want Jk to have an off the record episode about college. Because my friends, a lot of others, and myself included don’t know what we want to major in. We don’t know what college we should go to, we don’t know how we can save money for college, what to do when we are in debt and so on. I wish they can do an episode on it so that others who are struggling with the same problems can have some guidance and advice.

    • @ebpthiccpapayas8724
      @ebpthiccpapayas8724 6 років тому

      i think the first step before college isn't deciding the major its deciding what occupational field you would want to be in. that can buy time in deciding what occupation in particular. the major itself is useless without a goal. like some people dont release until they are 30+ that they would've been happier just going to a trade school to pursue a passion they have. like cars, electricians, welders, etc. and some people realize they didnt need college at all
      college isn't always the next step after high school. the scam isn't college its the concept that college is what you SHOULD be doing

    It’s only funny because I just graduated with my degree in Business Administration with a focus in Business Management and Entrepreneurship, plus Communications and Psychology 77k+ in debit and with no job in ANY of my fields yet so far I’m starting to see why people are calling college a scam....... just pray for me that my TikTok career takes off 😂😂😂

      it can be. depends on what your goals are. not every occupation requires much college and most only require just some kind of degree that relates to the job in some way, in name. but even with that the knowledge doesnt usually transfer over to the job. making the physical degree more valuable than the knowledge

      Joshua Israel There’s this new chick with a blue icon who’s worse, she uses the comment section as a vlogging space and tells us about how she just went to the grocery store. And when she does comment about the video, she’s kinda dumb

    Them bashing statistics and acting like it's some evil thing kind of baffles me. I feel like a lot of their criticisms are super simplistic and easy to explain.

      When they were talking about statistics, they were trying to make an argument against it and they weren't trying to be funny, they were serious. Since they're not making jokes about statistics and trying to prove a point, they should be criticized. Just because they're comedians, it doesn't absolve them from criticism when they're trying to seriously argue something.

    That experiment is true in my situation because in my group of friends at work we have one friend who is kind of vulnerable and easily teased. And because he is like that, all of us started teasing him, some might argue it was bullying. One day I found myself teasing/bullying him. I didn’t think anything of it in the beginning because everyone in my circle were doing it. Unconsciously, I think people bully other people who they perceive as weak. That’s just how us human works.

    I knew someone who apparently has a anthropology degree (some of us think he's actually lying because he's a pathological liar) but their personality doesn't work for the field. My friend and I searched up jobs you could do with anthropology and most of them required social or interpersonal skills. None of those they had.
