That’s final light saber fight, the acting, the fight choreography, the soundtrack… All pure Cinema
Shmi wasn’t hiding anything about Anakin not having a father. What she said was quite literal. The Jedi believed in a prophecy that one day a being would be conceived through the force, born of no father that would destroy the sith and bring balance to the force. Though it hasn’t been confirmed or explained, it’s theorized that years before the events of this film, Darth Sidious(the emperor) and his master had attempted to manipulate and control the force. The force sensed this imbalance and in response created the being that was foretold within the Jedi prophecy. This being was Anakin.
That makes sense now! I always wondered if that line was literal, or she was just saying that his father left.
This is completely random, but I always interpreted the prophecy as saying that he would bring balance to the force as meaning he’d (help) kill al the Jedi, and make there an equal amount of Jedi and sith.
@@Syffx. Anakin’s purpose was to destroy the sith. However, his path to fulfill it was altered due to the death of Qui gon since many believe that he was the mentor that Anakin needed. Even though he wasn’t meant to destroy the Jedi, some theorize that the force realized that the Jedi had lost their way and came to the conclusion that the order needed a complete restart, possibly even aiding the sith to achieve this. Like I said, Anakin was meant to destroy the sith and restore balance, but it was never stated how he would do so.
@@clank0ta404 I mainly got that interpretation from the part in episode 2 or 3 I think were they say that the prophecy is very old and might have been a little lost in translation (not the exact quote but something similar). Also, in a few books they mention how there has to be a balance of the sith and the Jedi for the force to be balanced (mainly in the rise of darth Vader book and into the void where since the Jedi use the light and the dark, there are no sith as the force users are already balanced)
I was thinking that the forces way of enacting that balance is through the chose one, but that’s just what I got from it.
@@Syffx. You should go watch the scene when Palpatine and Anakin talk in the theatre alone. It will give you so much info if you read between the lines.
the Decoy was Keira Knightley btw
That’s who it was I did know who she was but couldn’t think of her name just that she was on a pirate movie
Thank Timothy Zahn for inventing the planet Coruscant. Absolutely brilliant concept!
I always love building Coruscant-like massive planet cities in Stellaris.
Timothy Zahn is underrated for all of his contributions to the Star Wars universe. Seriously great author.
The prequels are definitely a bit more complex than the original trilogy. At first glance, it appears that the good guys won in Episode I, and perhaps they did from a certain point of view. But they didn't even _detect,_ much less _stop_ the true villain and his plot. He got exactly what he wanted out of all this.
I see what you did there old Ben
Not exacly what he wanted from this.
He wanted the occupation of Naboo to become a fact to gain more power.
And he got far more than he wished for.
@@mathuraphael9196 Yeah, sure. He wanted an alien power to occupy his planet to gain more power, not to use the invasion to dethrone the chancellor and get a sympathy vote to replace him.
When Padme reveals that she is really the queen you can just _see_ Qui-gon remembering all the times he told her off about how the queen "trusts him", "doesn't need to know", etc... 🤣
Well, Lucas had plans from the very beginning because even for just the original trilogy, he needed to know every character's background: Where did they come from? How did they got here? So he planned out all the important story elements for the prequels whe writing the originals. Obviously the details came later, when he started working on the prequel trilogy. If you're interested, the whole process was pretty well documented for both trilogies.
The end of the fight between Qui Gon, Obi Wan and Darth Maul shows the difference between Sith and Jedi very well. When the laser partitions separated Qui Gon and Maul from each other, the Jedi began to meditate, calming down, and the Sith, on the contrary, walked in a rage like a tiger in a cage, filling himself with emotions. And when Obi Wan attacked Maul after the death of his master, you can see that he was filled with rage, which took him out of balance, since this is not the way of the Jedi and he does not know how to handle it, and Darth Maul, being a Sith who has been raised inside the order since childhood, who on the contrary feeds himself with emotions, easily he was defeated and thrown into the mine, and only when Obi Wan was able to calm down and return to balance, he was able to defeat Maul
Darth Maul SHOULD have won the fight. Why?? He had the High Ground, Obi-Wan flew straight up right in FRONT of Darth Maul who had HIS saber and had a VERY open chance. It was a weak plot by Lucas that got Darth Maul killed, Darth Maul deserved better!!
@@gorevarix4036 you should watch The Clone Wars
@@gorevarix4036 killed???? Maul didn't die here though
@@BigSteve9713 the story of him coming back together was so idiotic. He not only got cleaved in half but fell all that way down. The gravity alone would have mutilated his body parts by the time they hit the ground.
@@gorevarix4036have you seen the clone wars show and seen his survival arc? It's fairly well documented that Sith are able to survive impossible odds when fueled with rage and hatred. In that moment, Maul hated Kenobi more than anything else, and that rage fueled him to survive, to get revenge. That rage and hatred literally drove him mad and into an obsession with Kenobi until he died. There are people in real life who live perfectly fine with no bottom half, and the wound was instantly cauterized so no bleeding out. He just used the Force to cushion his fall at the bottom and survived out of pure dark emotion

Jar Jar was written for Georges' (at the time) young son Jett. His speech is based off how Ahmed Best talked to Jett. The character was hated so bad that Ahmed Best almost ended himself due to all the hate and death threats he received.
Completely undeserved hate, I might add - even if you ignore the fact, that he was just an actor playing a role according to his script; the character of Jar Jar Binks - while silly - is nowhere near as terrible or annoying as a lot of people pretend, and since he had little impact on the overall story, easy to ignore if you don't like him.
I never understood the hate or why people thought it was ok to harass and threaten Ahmed. Thankfully, he was strong enough to move past it and make a nice return to the franchise as a different character recently.
Honestly Binks wasn't even that bad. People are fuckin weird.
Yeah, and all the hate led to us never seeing Darth Jar Jar.

The reason padme talks like that is because of the decoy thing. Her & all of her decoys are trained to use a weird accent while in "queen mode" to make things less obvious when they switch.

Actually, the slide transitions are a 1930s thing, not 70s. This is copying the look of 1930s sci-fi movie serials, such as Flash Gordon. Thus, the opening text crawl and episode numbers.
The production story reason for the light sabers being different colors is this. Lucas decided that the red are for the Sith and blue for Jedi. They filmed Return of the Jedi with Luke wielding a blue saber against a blue sky. Whoops. You can still see this in early commercials on UA-cam. They made it green instead, which is close to blue.
Then, a certain actor in the prequels, prized to be cast, wanted to have a purple saber, Lucas let him. Then came the avalanche of various saber colors in Star Wars.
I will say, as a kid in the early 2000s I was *definitely* Jar Jar's target audience, but I've always liked him as a character! Aside from him just being a silly little guy, one thing I've always appreciated but could only put into words later in life is how he's almost a foil for Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan: two calm and collected Jedi who stay cool under pressure, whereas Jar Jar usually reacts the way most normal people would - worrying and freaking out
Glad you enjoyed the movie!
I'm glad you are watching the Prequels! The Prequels have a special place in my heart, they are the Star Wars movies I grew up with as a boy. I remember how excited I was back then, to see Revenge of the Sith in theatre, a truly amazing experience. The Prequel era is very nostalgic for me, that's for sure!
"I need to get that outfit." Such a girl. I love it.
This is the only Star Wars movie I've been lucky enough to see in theaters(I'm not old enough to have had the chance to see the OT and the other movies I either didn't have the money or time) and I loved it. I've never understood why Jar Jar was/is hated so much, he's really not that bad at all. I had the same reaction when I saw this the first time. I was like, "You're telling me this sweet, innocent little kid grows up to become Darth Vader, the baddest villain of all time?! How does he go from kindhearted and compassionate to tall, black, and evil?"
Yes, you get to see "young" Yoda! He's only 899 years old in this one, a real spring chicken!

When Queen of Naboo is in full makeup, it’s actually not Portman. It’s Kiera Knightly. The two girls looked so similar in makeup, even the girls own mothers couldn’t tell them apart.
I still can't
Natalie does have the full makeup on in a few scenes. It's only the scenes where she is safe, like in the Senate Chamber, Palpatine's place and once on the ship after they leave the capital. There might be other times as well but I can't recall
I swear they were separated at birth or something. They have to be related in some way even distantly. Both could for sure be stand ins for one another
This is just wrong, I'm afraid. Portman and Knightly both wore the makeup at different times throughout the film.
Correct. I knew that just forgot. Thank you. I got excited typing as the second comment on the video so I was distracted. Guess I was 95-99% correct lol@@Progger11
Far as the lightsaber colors go, there’s a pretty big split in the fandom as they have changed over time in terms of meaning. So I’ll keep it pretty surface level without really getting into HOW the colors actually come about.
Blue usually symbolizes bravery and the choice to stand first to fight
Green is typical of Jedi who are more in tune to the force and prefer negotiation above drawing their sabers.
Purple is one of the more rare colors, for Jedi that dance with darkness whilst still remaining loyal to the light side
Red is obviously symbolic of hatred, anger and fear
"This kind of reminds me of the spaceport in episode IV." It is
I saw the original trilogy in the theaters and I remember hearing at the time that even back then, Lucas' plan was to make a prequel trilogy and a sequel trilogy.
Fun fact: when the camera pans across the Galactic Senate, one of the "pods" has three members of E.T.'s species. George Lucas did that as a favor to his friend Steven Spielberg after Spielberg included Star Wars easter eggs and references in Raiders of the Lost Ark and E.T.
The spaceport in episode 4 is mos eisley
The one in episode 1 is mos espa

When you’re done with the prequels you should do the Clone Wars. Learn a little more about just what drove Anakin towards the dark side, and why Ben and others think about him fondly.
Yes I second this idea. It also shows Anakins growing discontent in the Jedi Way NOT delivering the win which to him is a loss leading to his slow turn unlike the prequals.
Animated series Clone Wars, Rebels and Bad batch is essential to understanding current star wars disney content.. also some of the best star wars content ever made
It's so key that he is here Anakin Skywalker as Darth Vader evidently has yet to exist. Will you also see Rogue One after the prequel trilogy? And the animated Clone Wars? And animated Rebels? In that order, I recommend!
I know it's so hard to believe that adorable, sweet boy becomes Darth Vader.
What’s hard to believe is that someone can watch all the original movies and still not figure that out until the pod racing seen.
@Antonio-Gransci both twists are fun to watch people react to.
I think that was kinda George's point. "Nothing is evil in the beginning" - to quote another famous movie/television series/franchise. Haha 😉 No one is born evil.
This is where the fun begins
Star Wars is so awesome. Episode 3 is my favorite. Cant wait to see your reaction!
Yes, 3 is the best out of the prequel trilogy
One of the queen's security force team Lt Gavyn Sykes, is played by UA-camr Christian Simpson. He has worked on several Star Wars films either as a stand in for a main character or has done voice work.
Reading the text crawl for episode 1 was always a head scratcher at first. “Trade routes… in my space wizard movie?” But then it totally works. 😂
The great galactic conflict had to start somewhere. It's actually pretty realistic- a huge corporation getting mad about being taxed by the government.
Space Amazon gets approached by corrupt politician with an agenda and tells them "don't like the huge taxes? Start a coup in that little planet"
Turns out the politician was from that planet, comes out of the whole thing as the hero, and becomes El Presidente.
Aside from the VHS tapes, there was a release on DVD that included both the Special Edition, and the theatrical version, which is pretty much the original movies.
Those devices, the two Jedi Knights use for breathing underwater are, of course, simply props. They do not function as such. However, that did not keep agents from the US government from approaching the studio to find out about them. The thought, of course, what’s that they would make very useful tools for military special operations teams and such. Unfortunately, the agents left disappointed.
Okay, there were some changes made to this film. The Podracing sequence wasn't as long as you saw. When it first came out, it was shortened a bit (most likely for pacing), but some of the bits you've seen have been restored on the DVD release of this film. Also, the bit where Anakin checks on Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, wondering if they're coming with him, that was also cut (again, for pacing, I believe), but was restored on the DVD and subsequent releases. Now, for the most major change: Yoda's look in this film. Originally, they used a puppet for the scenes that featured Yoda. Let's just say that he's supposed to be a bit younger in the Prequels (still old, but not as old as he was in the Original Trilogy), so obviously, the puppet they used for this film didn't look like he was younger, but rather, even older (like a thousand or so years older, when he's supposed to be around 800 years old in these three films). When this film was re-released in theaters in Real-D 3D, and later when it came out on Blu-ray, the puppet was replaced with a CGI model (which you'll see again in the next two films). Honestly, I think he looks really good in CGI, and it's nice that they re-used that model from Episodes II and III for this film. And of course, that is Frank Oz reprising his role. Now, regarding Jar Jar Binks, as someone in the comments mentioned, people really hated the character when the film first came out, and many of those people probably still hate him to this day, but maybe not as much after his actor, Ahmed Best, revealed that he almost committed suicide from all the hate and death threats. I don't understand the hate for the character. I love him. He gets himself in trouble, sure, but he means no harm. You can't blame him for trying not to get in trouble. He just can't help it, you know? Oh, and yes, that is Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu. Before he was an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., he was a Jedi Master. Even though he's not in this film a lot, his presence was a most welcome one. Edit: Also, Darth Maul was potrayed by stunt performer Ray Park, while he was voiced by another actor (just like how Darth Vader was portrayed in the Original Trilogy by the late David Prowse while James Earl Jones provided the iconic voice). 2nd edit: 50:19 to 50:25 - Well, I'm sure Darth Maul will NEVER be a threat again. Nope. Definitely not. (No talking about spoilers for "Solo" until Colette posts her reaction to it. Same goes for "The Clone Wars", only no spoiling events of later episodes. Only discuss the current episode.)
Two fun facts 1) During the parade scene at the end if you swap the boys choir who are singing with a deep men’s choir you’ll hear them singing the emperor’s theme and 2) if you stick around till the end of the credits you’ll hear both the emperor’s theme and the breathing of Darth Vader
The female in the council chambers was Yaddle one of Yoda’s species; no one knows if they are related or the name of their species. Yes George Lucas changed many things as things roll along.
Yaddle is one of the only Jedi to actually have an orange lightsaber
thats not canon anymore@@ZoogWeekendz
This movie came out when I was 8 years old and it’s the first movie that I can remember going to see in theaters. I was fascinated by the pod racing and I thought Darth Maul was the coolest! I was him for Halloween that year and my friend was Queen Amidala in her red dress. I just went to see it in theaters for the 25th anniversary and even though I’ve rewatched it multiple times, seeing it again on the big screen brought me back to when I was that excited little girl walking out of the theaters. I had watched the originals for my entire life and it was really cool that I got to be there to witness the rebirth of Star Wars for a new generation. Glad you had fun watching it!
Collete Cherry Green and blue are the most common of lightsaber colors for Jedi. Green is the color of the Consular, Jedi who rely more on force study, while blue is the color of the Guardian, Jedi who are more geared towards lightsaber combat.
I think that bit of lore was added retroactively; at the time of the movies it was somewhat arbitrary - the first green lightsaber (Luke's Lightsaber) only got it's color, because the blue saber wasn't visible against the clear blue sky of Tattooine in episode 6.
@@LadyDoomsinger exactly.
@@LadyDoomsinger - There was the blue sky issue, but also a need to remind the audience that this was a NEW saber. Luke's original saber was lost... dropped into the cloudy depths of the gas giant Bespin (along with Luke's right hand). When Luke shows up at Jabba's palace, everyone was at first wondering, "Why didn't he bring his lightsaber?", before suddenly realizing... "Oh... okay, yeah".
Anakin is the chosen one.. he was a product of the force.
A timeless and magical film showing the birth of the Skywalker bloodline’s story. Was great to watch it again albeit in an incomplete format alongside a fun & quirky commentary from a fresh-face to the fandom✨👌🏻

I’m impressed with how quick on your toes you are with out the Star Wars story, and this is coming from a pre-Disney Star Wars fan.
The only way to see the original trilogy the way it was in the theaters is through someone who has the original DVD or earlier cd's. Star War fans my age would have both like I do. I remember seeing them all in theaters as they came out.
The original theatrical editions of the Original Trilogy are out of print but available on a special DVD that you may be able to find on eBay. It is a 2 disc edition of each film with disc 2 containing the original theatrical release.
These rare editions are highly sought after and are somewhat pricey.
The lightsaber colors do have meaning, but it's more in the books than the movies. Red is Sith, everything else is usually some sort of Jedi
Good day Colette! Happy you are starting out your Star Wars journey. Besides the movies, I hope you will also watch the TV series along the same timeline like The Clone Wars, Solo, Andor, Rogue One, Rebels, The Mandalorian. May the Force be with you always! :)
"That's Darth Vader, the cutest little angel babycakes?!" It's really touching, Colette 😊.
Little Anakin is adorable, indeed. And your reaction illustrates exactly what the film is trying to make us feel when we see this kid: "he's so adorable, how can he be this big bad guy dressed in black?!" Everyone who watch Star Wars can say that. We are amazed, and even if we know what will become of this little boy, we attach ourselves to him. This is far from the case for all the big bads. Anakin is made to be adorable and promising at first, to show another side of the dark side icon: Darth Vader.
This makes the character of Vader more complex than he is in the first trilogy. We don't expect him to be so nice at the beginning of the prequel, let alone to appear so young, a child! ✨✨ Quite a symbol. Which begs the question: "How can such an adorable child become a monster? How is he going to build hell out of good intentions?"
Darth Vader, the cutest baby angel. Yeah that’s sticking. Thank you for the laughs lol.
So glad to see your reaction to the Prequels.

I saw Star Wars Episode 4 in 1977 when I was a kid. I grew up with it forging culture all around me. After Episode 6, Return of the Jedi, in early 1980's, we went a looong time before getting to see that iconic "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...." line on the screen. Almost 20 years. When Episode 1 came out, I saw it on opening night in a totally crowded movie theater in Edison, NJ. Everybody was totally amped to finally have another Star Wars movie to watch. Suddenly, the movie started and that line was on the screen. The entire movie theater erupted with people cheering and whistling. It was awesome.

If you want to see the original trilogy unedited you would need to get your hands on the boxed VHS slipcase with the holographic cover. That was the last unedited version of release. No newer versions exist on DVD or Blu-ray because George Lucas has made sure that only the 25th anniversary edition will be released going forward.
Rest in pieces Darth Maul...
Senator Palpatine isn't evil...he is just misunderstood...yeah that's the ticket...
Well this not said in movies but Darth Maul survived.
Palpatine not true evil in common way but he lost the edge in his long way. This was inevitable anyway regardless of his motives in beginning.
Also time between Coruscant scenes and his arrival on Naboo in this movie - this is time when he killed Plagueis. He did it when they celebrated his election as counselor.
And trouble of Jedi that they not even think - what can mean "bring balance" when they have obvious advantage and only two Sith left are hiding.
Blows my mind people have gone thier whole lives without seeing Star Wars such a classic saga
its horrible what ended up happening to Jake Llyod, ive always loved him in this role. not to mention "jingle all the way" is literally the go to Christmas movie for my family for as long as i can remember. (rip Phil)
the way the shield works is the harder the force going at it, the harder it repels, which is why the bullets bounced off but they could walk throught. it is the same tech as the underwater shields where obiwan/qui gon just walked in.
btw. also. the pod race, per my dad who was born in the 40s and we saw this in 1999 together. he told me the pod race highly reminded him of 1959s ben hurr's chariot race. i later went back to watch it and there was defintely influence.
in fact, a lot of this movie was influenced from roman culture. as well as others.
The color of the lightsabers didn't really mean anything until the second movie, when someone asked for their favorite color. Now there's a bunch of different colors, idk much about if they actually mean anything though. But I do know that the sith lightsabers are red because the sith "bleed" their crystals, which they use in the core of their lightsabers. They force their hatred into their crystal.

The humor is strong with this one lmao
43:30 The energy shields stop high energy impacts. So a laser won't pass through it, but a slow moving object can.
Good job. Looking forward to the next two.
About why in the fight with Maul they go to a small room, the style of fighting of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan involves many jumps and turns, you can see that when they fight on an open area Qui-Gon and Obi are winning, so Maul leads them into a small room when they can't use their style to well, that's why he's able to kill Qui-Gon.
If you can not trust Palpatine then who can you trust?
The Force.
I think that Amidala's white dress at the end would make a great wedding gown.
Green blade are for the Jedi Consulors. Those most in tune with the force. Blue blades are for Jedi Guardians. Those who are more connected with the physical world.
One of queen Amidala’s body doubles “Sabe” is played by Keira Knightley, she was only 12 years old at the time.
To answer your question: George Lucas wrote the first six episodes from the begining. The issue was that he did not believe that in the 70's there was enough technology to film the Clone Wars (episode 2, the next movie that you are about to see on your next reaction). So that's why he went on to film episodes 4, 5 and 6 first, since they required less special effects when compared to the first three episodes (more war, more jedis, more lightsaber battles, etc).
Yes there are meaning to the lightsaber colours I suggest just looking it up it be easier
Yup there is a great poster made for the movie that had Anakin Skywalker standing next to the house he lived in during this movie while the shadow behind him on the wall is of Darth Vader's.
Around the time this was released, there was a video game based on the pod racing for the Nintendo 64 video game system. In addition to the track on Tattooine, it has some on other planets as well.
I'm not sure if you recognize the voice of one of the track announcers or not, but the English-speaking head is voiced by Greg Proops. He's best known as a frequent performer on the improv show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?".
It shows the level of technology in the Star Wars universe that even the "primitive" Gungans have shield bubbles that can resist the main guns of tanks.
This is where things started to get a bit funky, but still good.
Also explains how the AT-AT's were able to destroy the generator on Hoth in ESB. The shields stop fast moving objects such as a blaster bolt from getting through, but slower moving objects have no problem.
In hindsight maybe the firing squad should have open fired on Darth Maul. His lightsaber wasn't ignited and he was just standing there menacingly while looking down.
Yoda and Yaddle, one you seen all 6 movies there is a short video series where Yaddle is in
StarWars usually has no end credit scenes but fun fact: at the end of the credits for episode 1 you can hear Darth Vader breathing.
Love your reaction! You got personality Colette!
The energy shield the gungans used can only stop fast moving projectiles.
Anything slow moving can pass through.
The other one was named Yaddle she gets defeated by Darth Tyrannus (Count Dooku) before the start of episode 2. Pulled the same move he used to get away only difference being Yaddle was unable to stop it.
I'm sure u were told already, but the queen amidala and her decoy: One of them as u called it is Nathalie Portman, but her decoy is Keira Knightley
Film fact: Vin Diseal was considered to play Qui Gon-Jinn but wasn’t available after committing to his role as The Iron Giant(1999).
Even with all that makeup you can tell! Perfect Colette, the makeup artists are grinning ear to ear. (I presume someone down in the comments mentioned that's Keira Knightley)
nm, it's late
The Duel of the Fates is referring to Anakin’s path.
Anakin needed a father, he NEEDED Qui Gon. Obi Wan was always more of a brother. Qui Gon’s philosophy really went in line with Anakin’s, he would’ve been the perfect master for him.
in case you're still interested in the un-edited original trilogy, look online for Harmy's Despecialized Editions. it's a fan-made recreation of the original versions using various sources to stitch it back together. it's incredibly well done and (sadly) the closest we'll (probabaly) ever get to actually seeing the original un-edited versions
I'm glad you enjoyed this film, I really like it too! Just to answer a few of your questions; Anakin is 10 years old, you can see the original films if you buy the DVD copies and George made it up as he went along.
“Why is her voice like that?” Because:
1. Keira Knightley had been cast as the decoy queen and she was British - the audience isn’t meant to realise that it’s Keira playing the queen from the occupation on Naboo to arrival on Coruscant.
2. Portman wanted to use her real voice when playing Handmaiden Padme and decided to fake a British accent when Amidala.
LOL! Baby Yoda... is only 850 years old, give or take.
Hey, did you see a little detail in episode 1, which refers to the original Trilogy ? A short sequence that is exactly the same as in episode 6, at the begining of space- Battle of Endor 😉.
As the interior of the Naboo fighter's cockpit is filmed, the flying droids deploy exactly the same as the TIE fighters seen from the Millennium Falcon's cockpit.
It irks me that The Gungan Boss made Jar Jar the general. Like the fate of the entire planet is at stake, two peoples, and the Boss Gungan knows Jar Jar is a klutz. Like weaponized clumsiness, they literally banned him from the underwater city for being a klutz-So now he makes him a general?
There explanation which linking that with lot of suspicious scenes with Jar Jar. He not clumsy at all, he extremely smart and dangerous. Real menace of this movie was not Anakin. Its sadly unhappened plot twist because fans was raging on him so Lukas deleted his plot.
Blue = Jedi Guardian
Yellow = Jedi Sentinels
Green = Jedi Consular
Red = dark side users
Lucas wrote a 1,000 page story after graduating from USC's film school in the early 1970s that told Darth Vader's whole life story. He broke it up into 9 movie scripts, and then when he needed a film to pitch to Fox, he took the 4th part (after adding the destruction of the Death Star from the 6th) to them. He felt that was the easiest to film and get audiences interested in. His goal was for the movie to make enough money that Fox would fund more movies in the story.
Lucas would say he had it all planned and the final versions of the movies are the ones he always envisioned, but we know that isn't true. It's hard to say exactly when different things were part of the plan. The first script for the original movie was really different, and his wife made lots of edits to the version they actually shot to get the final version. By the time the first movie was done, I think he had some conception of other aspects of the story. The Clone Wars were referenced in the first movie but we can't be sure what he thought those would exactly be at the time. The Emperor was also referenced but never appeared. Most people working on it thought it was unlikely to get a sequel though, so they tried to make it very stand alone, even if some threads were left to explore later.
The first movie released originally without an episode 4 subtitle, and it was added after they started the next movie, so it's fair to say at that point he wanted to go back and do 1-3. Vader means father in German I think, so that seems planned. But the Leia being Luke's sister thing was not, hence the kissing. At one point he wanted to do 9 parts, ending with Luke defeating the Emperor after training an apprentice, who was "the other hope" mentioned in 5, but then they nixed all that after Episode 5 and just did one more movie instead of 4.
The prequels seemed pretty well planned out in advance though. He also later developed an outline for a different version of episodes 7-9, which Disney essentially completely ignored. Basically like most stories, there was some planning, and then some changing that plan as it went, adapting to various challenges or to implement good ideas that came later.
I know it's a little late, but to answer your question, George Lucas had rough plans from the very beginning, but those plans were always changing a little bit up until being made. Such as: Vader was always a fallen Jedi, former apprentice of Obi Wan, but being Luke's father was added to his backstory during the making of Empire Strikes Back. There was always a Republic before the Empire, but the specifics weren't fleshed out until the prequels. Etc.
