Andavo per anni da lui.... Grande appassianato della vocalita' umana...! Generosissimo come uomo.... L'unico che mi "buttava in faccia" i pocchissimi soldi, se la lezione non andava bene.... Che dire.... Grande Giaiotti!
hai lavorato con Giaiotti ?!? sei un ragazzo fortunatissimo ! si, è vero Giaiotti era un uomo grande,non lo conoscevo personalmente ma lo rispettavo molto per la sua arte. Giaiotti era l'ultimo vero basso d'origine italiana chi conosceva il mestiere. i giovani bassi come Urlanetto, Scandiuzzi e Colombara purtroppo non cantano come cantava lui ! Giaiotti era un Grande.
Ho anche registrazioni da tanti lezioni. 6-7 anni fa cantava dal Do grave al Sol acuto in una posizione con morbidezza e armonici ricchissimi .... senza trucci! Prendeva video delle nostre bocche per poter "studiarle" e aiutarci successivamente.... "Difficile" come insegnante , diceva le verita !! Vero Pedagoga!!!
Giaiotti dal vivo era anni luce migliore dei bassi odierni. era un Grande ! e si carissimo,il mestiere del insegnante non ha niente à vedere con quello del cantante lirico. i grandi cantanti erano degli insegnanti ''Difficili'', è vero ! lo stesso lo diceva un certo Boris Christoff del suo maestro Riccardo Stracciari... Boris mi raccontava che quando ha sentito per la prima volta la voce enorme di Stracciari voleva rinunciare al canto! ahahahahahahahah ! anche Stracciari diceva la verità e Boris non era molto contento di questo fatto... ahahahahahahahah ! ciao.

Wow. What a voice! It has been so long since I've heard him sing. May I say that he and George London have very similar timbres and technique such that Bonaldo sounds like a basso London and London sounds like a baritone Bonaldo.
@verdiguy It´s a F#, but anyway, his low tones are massive and flow out without any restriction, as they should. In this concert he sounds more like a powerful profundo. His high c#, the dominant in this piece, is full of power too. Courageous, I would say, most basses would sing it softer in order to prepare for more volume in the low. There is a comment comparing it to London´s powerful baritone. Quite true! Dark and strong! Magnificent and thank you for posting again.
Mille Grazie - Thank you for posting. Simon Boccanegra was the first opera I saw live in the theatre, during a trip to Europe while in my final year of secondary school. For that reason, it has always been my favourite opera and this is my favourite Verdi aria for bass. Mister Giaiotti as always, gives a first class performance and the final low f is superb!
For me, the pitch is too off, and there’s too much of a lack of musicality (for my tastes). The aria should be spookier, but he’s roaring through it like he did with the recit. His sound is just not as great as ghiaurov’s, and the vowels sometimes sound incorrectly rounded. There are basses who exist in the current generation that do sound better, in my opinion. This is all just my opinion.

Voce enorme e anche ,generalmente , bene emessa ( meno in basso) , ma sempre sul forte e mezzo forte.

And to think he was in the second tier after Siepi, Tozzi, and Ghiaurov during his career at the Met. No one can sing like this today.
Sure, but for pure vocalism, he had had Tozzi and Ghiaurov beat all hollow.

He is magnificent! I don't know what you mean by the "dominant" C# but there is also a higher note than that in the recitative, a D
