I'd kill for a vid like this one Dragon Link, Tearlaments, Phantom Knight, Fluffal, etc.
A video series where you discuss the unexpected competitive history of iconic anime cards would be really neat Or maybe Blue Eyes being the first topic was a coincidence
While historically it may not be the case, the increased interest and exploration of retro formats has shown that Blue-Eyes in formats prior to 2013 is meta relevant. The best example is probably Dragon Turbo in Edison that uses both White Stone of Legend and the og Blue-Eyes, by many considered one of the top tier decks, with tournament results to back it up.
@DarkyMcSadSad I mean, you could argue it's still relevant. It's a modern development in a format that took off after its passing. It can be argued it's part of Edison's history.
In 2014 I was playing Dragon Rulers with Soul Charge, 3 Cards of Consonance, 3 Trade-In and a full set of White Stone and Blue-Eyes. I loved this deck. I roll up to locals and one of my opponents hits me with Mausoleum of the Emperor plus Archlord Kristya. I'm using all of my cards to dig through my deck to find Book of Moon. I never find it, but then I see a Blue-Eyes staring back at me. I pay 2000 LP, normal summon it and attack over Kristya to unlock the rest of my hand and graveyard full of dragons.
I played that exact deck, Dragon Ruler with a Blue Eyes engine, including White Stone, very fun and strong deck, I stopped playing in 2014 because some dude stole my deck 😭
Every so often I get the joy of remembering the feature duel of madolche beating blue eyes at a YCS solely because tiramisu non target shuffles chaos max. Makes my day every time
I REALLY think it was a disservice not mentioning Dragon Turbo in Edison and times around it. It forms the backbone of an exceptionally powerful draw engine that sees lots of representation, in a similar way to how Dragon Ruler used it.
@@angelovertim2360 Well, in fairness, if he wanted to make a video about the competitive relevancy of BEWD in the actual history of how YuGiOh happened, including Edison and Dragon Turbo wouldn't be right, because Edison was everything but the format we have now when it was played historically.
As an addendum to the duel links bit: Blue Eyes is currently tier 2 and anyone who gets referred to the game via a friend code gets a free Blue Eyes Structure which has almost everything you need so yeah, konami will never stop pushing that big white boy (and I don't mean Joseph)
I just came back to the franchise and started duel links getting blue eyes and support for it and it’s been great. I can actually summon it without tribute with the skill I have to. I still get wrecked by xyz link and all that stuff but I’m having fun.
I have literally been kicking a similar idea to this around for the better part of 2 months using HERO, was not ready for MBT to not only beat me to the punch, but also absolutely knock it out of the park. Amazing work, Joseph. Can’t wait to see more like it.
Hey, I absolutely love this type of content! The fact you've played so many different types of decks put you in a very fun unique position to give really great detailed takes when it comes to the competitive history of them. As a casual player, I would love to see more of these!
Ngl, not even 3 minutes in and you've missed a huge part of history. Everyone knows Yugi/Kaiba format as the time when Summoned Skull was Tier 0, but the fact of the matter is that it's called Yugi/KAIBA for a reason. There are a handful of other decks worth playing at this time, with the second most prevalent deck being a combo deck that focused on using Lord of D. to summon multiple Dragons from hand - most notably, the Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
I really wish that they'd stuck with the Synchro theme for Blue-Eyes and the Xyz theme for DM. It was a really cool way to modernize the two decks and even worked thematically (Synchro monsters having white borders, and Xyz monsters having black ones).
Don't worry they continued to drop the ball in the exact same way by refusing to make Red-Eyes an Xyz strategy despite one of its only good cards being an xyz from the first wave of support.
@@__-be1gk I honestly thought that Red-Eyes had a pretty neat gimmick relating to equip cards for a bit (Black Metal Dragon, Red-Eyes Gearfried, Fang With Chain, and Slash Dragon). Sad to see that they just abandoned that for some reason.
@@__-be1gk Konami just refuses to give Red-Eyes a solid gameplan. If it's because of trying to push the whole potential thing or just hating the poor thing (Geminis? Seriously?), safe to say Konami will keep masturbating to Blue-Eyes and Dark Magician while my boy barely gets thrown anything resembling a bone.
Duel Links taught me how badly people wanna play Blue-Eyes, Dark Magician and Red-Eyes. So it's mind blowing that they're stuck getting mediocre support time after time! This game would bring in so many players if you told them those 3 are top 5 decks.
Loved this going over the history because I never heard that some people tried Chaos max against Zoo. Really do wish konami stopped making blue eyes cards to counter formats and just made some blue eyes cards that are good by themselves so that least they can be considered rogue instead of a breaky mess.
lets not ignore the fact that Konami put out a Banlist just before the 2016 Victory of Blue Eyes that conviently nerfed all the popular strategies in some ways but CONVIENTLY ignored all Blue Eyes Cards :P
Blue Eyes is one of the top two meta Duel Links decks right now due to good card support and a very powerful targeted skill that lets you consistently cheat out powerful Blue Eyes fusions and casually ignore that whole rule about having to tribute monsters to bring out your high level normal monsters.
I'll be 103 and probably still won't forget the time when I was like 10, I left my deck in my mom's van. The window was cracked a little, and it rained.
