Lori, I am a certified picture framer with PPFA (Professional Picture Framer Association). I just thought I would toss in some more tips for framing your stitched pieces. The lacing method you demonstrated is the best way to mount your piece. One tip...when first placing your piece as you are centering it on the foam board, you can use straight pins in the edge of the board to tack in place before starting your lace. Once it looks good, you can remove the pins as you start your lacing. Tip two... the little metal tab things that hold the board in the frame are called "push pins" which Hobby Lobby does sell them if you should need more. Tip three...when putting on the paper backing, frame shops us a double sided tape called HTG tape. This is an acid free tap that will allow you to get the paper backing nice and taught and don't have to wait for glue to dry. The most important thing to keep in mind when framing stitched items is to use all acid free materials and you should be able to remove your stitching and get it back to original form. If any glue or adhesive on your piece, it will damage your lovely work. I hope this helps people to enjoy their work for many years.
I run a line of red sewing thread along the grain between the threads that should be on the very edge. Then I use sequin pins (very short) to pin the linen to the edge of the foam core and then lace.
My professional artist mother-in-law taught me this about framing: if you use craft paper on the back, after you have glued it down, and the glue is dry, spray a VERY LIGHT mist of water over it and it will tighten up as it dries. It gives a very professional finish to your framing. Any water that may hit the frame, just dab it up with an absorbent cloth. That was a great tutorial, Lori! I'm sending it to a friend.
Lori, thank you so much for this video. I framed my first large piece using your instructions and it turned out great!! You gave me the confidence to order a custom frame and finish framing my sampler. Thanks again!!
Thank you so much for this video! Professional framing is so expensive, I will definitely try framing some pieces on my own. Great step by step instruction.
One of your very best tutorials Lori! There is no end to your talents! Framing is so very expensive. This would certainly cut down the cost. I need to try it. Thanks so very much!
Your framed piece turned out so beautifully! Thank you so much for giving me the knowledge and confidence to try framing some of my own pieces. Your instructional videos are amazing and I so appreciate your generosity in donating your time and talents to educate us! You are a true gem!
Wonderful tutorial. Amazing, complete info for us. Thank you much. I love your stitching and finished projects. Most of all your family pieces. Such treasures! Thank you!
This is just Absolutely Fabulous !! It’s my favorite one, out of all the ones you made. Thank you so much for sharing. I really enjoyed watching this video.
Oh my goodness Lori!! I can't thank you enough for this lacing video!! I know I can do it now too just by watching you and your tips as you go along!! I know I can always count on you for my go to whatever I'm looking for to finish ANYTHING!! Or learn anything!! You're truly amazing!! And!! I just love this BEAUTIFUL cross-stitch The Lord's Prayer. Your frame is stunning! ABSOLUTELY perfect I say! When I lived in Canada we recited The Lord's Prayer every single morning before school started! Maybe the world would be a better place if we still all recited this BEAUTIFUL Prayer every single day!! 👍 After watching you I'm going to get mine kitted up! Thank you very much Lori!! I appreciate all the time you take in teaching us all you know!! ❤❤ I wish they'd leave the time alone too! Daylight saving drives me nuts!! 🤣🤣 Thank you! ❤
Highly recommend a tape runner for gluing down the paper backing! Get it from the scrapbook section of the craft store. That's what a framer would use too.
What a beautiful piece. I agree any time someone has done something with love should be finished the same way. No puckering along the sides. Thanks Lori for all your patience with us.
Oh Lori, thank you for this! Loved all your stitching patterns you have chosen as well as the meanings behind them on your last flosstube. Can not wait to see your next flosstube of Christmas pattern choices. All your project bags are so great, thank you for making cross stitch so elegant and inspiring ❤
Oh Lori, thank you so much! I had no idea how to lace. You are a wonderful teacher and I appreciate all of your videos. I am so happy you are posting cross stitch videos again! 💙
Thank you for the tutorial. I have done lacing before and learned some useful tips from this one. Im glad you are encouraging people to frame their own work if they want. Much more affordable. Your work is beautiful.
Thank you . I had read about this technique but never seen it done before. I now feel comfortable about tackling my own once I've gathered my supplies. Perfect timing for this tutorial so thank you again.
This is such a great video for me (beginner here). I appreciate that your extra fabric on the back is not the same length and seeing your sewing bites are lengthwise. Beautiful piece and beautifully done. Thank you! Ps now I need a truck for a pincushion!!!
Thank you for sharing Lori. I especially appreciated your explanation of closeness of lacing. I use brown grocery bags for my backing. I dampen with wet sponge after glue dries and it becomes drum tight when dry.
I was taught years ago to do things just as you did, with one addition. After the glue dries on the paper backing, lightly spritz it all over with water and when it dries it will be drum tight. Your work is so lovely. (I never got the need for the pins!)
I'm so glad to see this in complete detail! Yes, I'm not sure HL could do such a good job on cross stitch - and I live in an area that no longer has a professional framer. Your stitch is beautiful!! I'm finally finishing "A Savior's Praise", a three year Sabbath Stitch for me, whew! But I plan to lace it like you, so really good timing for me on this tute - THANK YOU 🥰
Thank you for this very helpful tutorial. You make it seem VERY easy! While I don’t anticipate my first attempts to actually be easy, now that I watched your video I am encouraged to try! Many thanks!
Lori. Thank you so much for the tutorial, which reminded me of the steps. It has encouraged me to frame my own pieces again. I have three pieces right now that HL framed and the pieces have wrinkled, so I am going to take them apart and restretch them… that is why I enjoyed your video. I needed the encouragement to do it. Your piece is beautiful.
Thank you, Lori!! I have been trying to get my nerve up to try my own framing and this is just what I needed. I am also inspired to start The Lord's Prayer, your stitch is beautiful.😍
Your piece is so beautiful, Lori! Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks for lacing with us. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving! 🦃
I've been lacing my own pieces since I watched your previous video a couple of years ago! It takes some time but so worth it! Thanks for the tip about the glue bottle! I'll be looking for one of those!
Thank you for taking the time to share your expertise with us. As always your very detailed demonstration is helpful and inspiring. I will try to use your technique myself.
Hi Lori! Beautiful stitch, perfect frame and great instructions as always!!! Thank you for taking the time out of your busy life to help teach us and to save a little/lot of cash!! - Have a great Thanksgiving - Jeannette (I look forward to your next video)
Thank you so much. It was very detailed and doable. I, too, am somewhat hesitant about trusting someone else to correctly frame my stitched pieces . The Lord's Prayer is beautiful.
Beautiful Lori! Yes, I agree wth you to not leave your stitched treasured pieces with people you dont know or trust, especially chain stores. Our local HL framed one of my pieces 3 times (the same piece) crooked til I took it back from them, laved it and framed it myself. Never agin will I leave a piece with anyone after that debaucle. Again, BEAUTIFUL piece and all was well done Lori. Thank you!
Beautiful Lori! Thank you for your tutorial. Stitchville did my framing but has closed. I trusted Deb with my stitching but want to do my own. Your method is easy to follow and I will follow your tutorial when I have my next project ready! Love your contribution to stitching and quilting!!❤
Wow Lori this was a fabulous tutorial with a lot of great tips. I always frame my own but never thought of putting my stitch on the backing board but always add my own board and then it is quite tight to fit. Love how you used the paper to make it look professional. Definitely I will try your method as I have a Christmas Teresa Kogut Santa waiting for the frame to arrive from Michaels. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this! My framer went out of business when she closed her stitching shop, so I currently don’t have anyone, but I have SO MANY pieces that need to be framed. I can’t do this!

Wonderful, Susie. Thank you for your additional tips!
Beautiful stitching and a beautiful framing job, too. Happy Thanksgiving, Lori!
Thanks for all the tips, Lori and Susie.
Thanks, I always put pins in the edge of the mount board to position the fabric before lacing. Really helps.

Thank you so much for this video! Professional framing is so expensive, I will definitely try framing some pieces on my own. Great step by step instruction.
Awesome tutorial... so many things to learn and I will watch it again in the future! Gorgeous finish!

Thank you for sharing how you lace your cross stitches. After watching your video I went to Hobby Lobby for all the supplies. ❤️
What a beautiful piece. I agree any time someone has done something with love should be finished the same way. No puckering along the sides. Thanks Lori for all your patience with us.
Excellent tutorial! I had no idea.
Great! Professionals spray the back with fine mist of water and the paper will shrink up to be tight. Such a lovely stitch.
This is a great tutorial!! Thank you so much.
Thank you for this tutorial on such a beautiful piece of cross stitch 💜
That looks AMAZING!!! Great tutorial & now I might have more confidence in lacing! Thank you Lori 🫶🏼

That’s such a beautiful finish, Lori!! And a great tutorial. I’m not sure why but lacing intimidates me. I need to just go for it! 💜🌸💜
Thank you Lori for the step by step process. Great hints and details which I always appreciate. See you on your 20th episode!

Thank you for sharing Lori. I especially appreciated your explanation of closeness of lacing. I use brown grocery bags for my backing. I dampen with wet sponge after glue dries and it becomes drum tight when dry.

You're welcome! Happy stitching to you too. 😊
Thank you for sharing your framing tips. I love your videos!
Thank you! This was very helpful. I have several pieces to frame.
Now I really need to pull mine back out. If you wet the brown paper after the glue it will dry very tight. My grandmother taught me that .
What a beautiful stitched piece. Thanks for sharing the framing tutorial. Janine
Thank you so much. It was very detailed and doable. I, too, am somewhat hesitant about trusting someone else to correctly frame my stitched pieces . The Lord's Prayer is beautiful.
