Yesterday I was making lap joints for a frame, something I've done hundreds of times, anyway, it was late in the day so I used the width of the board to set the table saw fence and didn't adjust for the kerf so all my laps were an 1/8th of an inch too long. I try not to work tired or distracted for this reason. The old saying: 'Measure twice, cut once' has a companion saying that applys to my mistake: 'Think twice, cut once'. Of course unless you really have to, quit when you get tired and before you start making mistakes. Lol

So you make it slightly smaller to conform to the standardized measurements.

Thats Why i like cutting metal 1/16th off? Ill weld it lol
