The amount of marble they use on their buildings always blows my mind. It’s not a north korean building without marble
Government owned for the PUBLIC not just for certain rich people uhmmmmmmmmmmm
No fresh vegetables, no fruits, no bread, only packed processed food to impress viewers. The real basic groceries are alarmingly missing.
i didn't notice at first but u right
Boa observação
Basically a convenience store passing off as a grocery store
Poor country in Asia. They sell vegetables in open markets or streets. Not in grocery stores. Back in 50's even in the USA and Canada that was the case.
Why do you think they make things to impress you, a nobody on UA-cam? Ever crossed your mind they don't give a damn about what foreign people think? Come on, it's DPRK, they don't need your simpathy.
Looks like someone else translated the video compared to the older ones, the translations are now literal instead of what they actually meant. Even still, thanks for the efforts, they make the video easier to watch!
This is machine translated. It becomes obvious at 9:00 when the tour guide explains how to write the brand name in Chinese characters: "A celebration is a celebration of celebration." I think what she says is this: "庆"就是"庆祝"的"庆" = "qing" as in "qingzhu". Then again, I know about three words of Chinese.
Lovely to see these videos, and get a glimpse into other peoples lives. The translations make me smile, don't change them, carry on as you are. Thank you.
I like how they tried to take a carton of milk and immediately the shopkeeper said "it's not for sale today". Must be the display milk :)
To be fair, I think it is because those boxed milk ( outside of the fridge) have not been tagged.
Rat milk...
@@liveecarbme ?
well it wasn't in any shelf it was just there on the floor, prob to be moved later who knows
It was literally on the floor
Title should be "Grocery shopping with Miss Jin
"Joy is not paradise." Words to live by!
I think that’s the name of the brands and she was telling her the difference between brands
😂😂😂
Just found this channel. Cool!
Thank You For sharing this Video
3:28 when she said ‘wahaha’, I felt that ❤️
Tooo wahahaha
Like down with the sickness wahaha?
Wahaha(娃哈哈)is a Chinese drinks brand though😂
As interesting as it was to see inside a NK supermarket, it was a shame the video just showed the junk snacks. Practically everything shown reminded me of what you'd see in a Chinese supermarket too. I wish they'd shown the meat, fruit, veggie aisles, but most of all I'd liked to have seen the deli section with local foods.
idk about fresh food, with shortage of agricultural product isnt likely they sell it on market
*Deli selection with local foods?* *Sir, this is North Korea.* *There is no deli and the local food consists of rice, beans, potato, and some cabbage.* *But yea, I would have liked to have seen the meat, fruit, and veggie aisle as well.*
Does not exist in North Korea, the food shortages that have been going on since the 90s are still going on.
Meat is a delicacy that does not exist for the common folk of North Korea.
@@Boa796 *Are you living in North Korea, my friend?* *Peace✌and blessings.* 🤝
i feel a sense of guilty because that is caused by trade sanction by america and allies including japan. sad
The North Korean grocery store is quite similar to the same stores in China. In reading the comments on the lovely guide, seems all have the same eyes. Pink shirt to grey shirt, does not matter--still lovely to see.

Interesting how almost all of the packaging is totally opaque. The only thing that was identifiable as food ,and not just food packaging, that I saw were some peanuts and some colored liquids that they were not able to buy. I would like to see them choose something right off of a random shelf, pay for it, and then immediately open bag and proceed to eat it without any jump cuts.
Probably because most of the packaging doesn't even contain food. That whole place looks like it's just for show.
@@dustinzilbauer7582 My thoughts exactly.
I cannot be the only one who sensed the anxiety of the guide immediately. Or am I?
Insane you can’t buy milk at a grocery store

Glad Im not the only one that's thinking about the cute tour guide. Now I'm hooked watching the rest of the DPRK vlogs from this channel.
I would give anything for her lol
And I thought the level of intelligence amongst folk tuned into such matters was improving.
@@Thursdaym2 never is and never will. but still, she is hot
“Joy is not paradise” was so unintentionally profound for only talking about food brands 😂
the shelfs are always completely stocked and customers shopping are already bagged?
Is this an old video? Or you visit there again?
I've been noticing that all these grocery store's they visit don't have fresh produce. Yet you can see an abundance of sugary and salty snacks. They must not have very healthy diets in the North.
the average north korean is starving these supermarkets are just for the privileged
@@hibye8405 Nah, you can see south korean or japanese videos about this, fresh produce is extremely rare and expensive in those places. Ive seen videos of south korean tourists here in México, being amazed of tasting real fresh orange juice for the first time.

OMG. The BGM broadcast in the mall is the theme song of Journey to the West, called 云宫音讯. BTW, the tour guide has an southern accent when she speaks Chinese.
I was wondering why her accent sounded so familiar, it’s the same accent as my family
That store is like the detergent section of a supermarket share packages .where is the eggs, meat, basic stuff
Hey Orbits out there! The girl in the pony tail looks and sounds just like Olivia Hye from LOONA!
BIG TRANSLATION NOTE: The "DOLLARS" here are not USD, it's CNY (RMB), about 7 RMB to 1 USD.
Please do not misinform other people with your ignorance. Case in point: at 3:40 The price of the chocolate filled sandwich cookies is 7500 KPW, which equates to 6.5 USD (the lady approximates this as 5 USD)
@@evokaiyo WTF 6 bucks for some cookies?! This is NUTS!!
@@ArthurD their economy is pretty bad so the prices are high
In subtitles it said 5 RMB
@@mrmeme84 I am providing the information based on the price label of the product, which is clearly displayed and shown in the video, at the very store they are purchasing from.
With regards to the subtitles, to err is human, the translator simply made a mistake (coincidentally the translator typed "it's about five dollars" first). Simply search the conversion rate of 7500 KPW (North Korean Won) to USD and CNY and you shall understand.
If you still believe the price is 5 RMB, that is your choice.
remember that Nov 2019 I went to department store in Pyongyang but it wasn't this store. We have to change our currency to DPRK Won first and then shopping. The rest money we may brought to home but dont keep it in jacket or pants pocket in the airport xray check point the officer would seize it.
Where is the food? Rice, beans, meat, fruits, vegetables...??? Do they live on snacks and sweets?
I don't really understand why 7,500 won at 3:41 should be 5 US-dollars. As far as I know, you get about 70,000 won for 10 dollars at the department store number one in Pyongyang. According to this exchange rate, 7,500 won are $1.07, and that seems to be a reasonable price for the cookies ($5 would be much too expensive). Can it be possible that the dollar prices the lady is referring to are wrong?
She refer to Chinese Yuan instead US dollar, just bad translation in subtitle
Since the DPRK has little to no foreign trade currency conversions are not very meaningful. Prices should be evaluated based on the average wage in DPRK wons. I'm not sure what that is or what criterion is used for conversions.
She’s amazing, you know who I’m referring to...
The woman in blue or man in grey ?

Healthy shopping cart contents...
The healthiest product in this supermarket must have been that milk they couldn't even buy.

Do people in north Korea live on candy, chips, and ramen soup? Seems like it from the looks of this grocery store.
I noticed that some of the stuff on the shelves look like south korean products, i know this because i go to asian stores sometimes.
Damn how they get all the supply ?

In 2022 the minimum wage was approximately 9,100 North Korean won... and a package of cookies costs 7,500!! Ridiculous, no normal North Korean can afford to pay for those products. Even the exchange rate in euros (about 7.5 euros) for a package of cookies is abusive!

Basic self sufficiency is the key. That's what China did first. They are both GMO free too, which makes a lot of diffetence. Those countries that didn't manage to tackle the basics sell themselves to tourists.
The thing is they can’t because of American sanctions
if they’ll “open up their economy” western mega corporations will easily flood the nation. that’s assuming DPRK can do that… which it cant. American sanctions made sure of it
A bit silly to take them there for show after banning them from seeing any other menu
