    Now I have been a fan of your "how to read a wiring diagram" for a good number of mnths . where you show how a magnetic field travels along a wireto a diode to switch it open , The only wriing diagram lesson that I'm aware of that show magnetic effect on a device, but until now i haven't watch any of your other videos , Well I just finished watching , how to how to how to use a Mighty Mite vac pump to find a leaking vac tube , excellent produced video , good lighting and strangly , I can hear your narration, I like where you showed me how to pry plastic clip apart , I typically panic at such small thing and bust them off not understanding exactly where to pry

    Great video. Its not not easy but you can clean ports without removing the intake and exhaust manifold.

      I tried many times before i found something that worked. I bought a drain cleaner from Harbor Freight (flexible shaft with a little mop thing on the end) for about $3.00. I cut off the ends and removed some of the outer cover(looks like a tight spring inside) At the very end I bent a little hood to help pull it way around the corners. I took off the EGR valve and ran it in the ports using a cordless drill. Hope this helped. I can send you i picture if it will help.

    I have the 0401 code. Replaced the EGR. Cleaned out the tube inside. Still getting the code. Carbon build up around the gas cap and little door.

    Good video, but surprised you didn't use a chemical to clean it like Berryman's chemtool carburetor cleaner or something similar to help open up and remove the carbon deposits for better flow. Especially if you let is soak from a few minutes to a few hours and will make a huge difference. Also cleaning the IAC helps this as well.

    Hi Rich. It's me again w the clogging EGR valve problem.
    Since the video was made, have u learned of any spray or liquid I can use? Unfortunately, I don't have the know how to disassemble parts of my engine like you have in the video.

      Try searching for seafoam for cleaning egr valve.I wish i could say i tried it but i have not.

      @@RichpinTv Thanks tho for the reply. I decided to give in and take it to the garage. They are putting in some Seafoam in the gas to start things off and then in a week they go to work on the engine to clean her out. Ahhh, I love my gold 99 Saturn.

    Ooow exhaust gas recycling, now i would like you to start that engine now ha ha :D
    A clever idea to cut down unwanted emissions and improve efficiency, i think some cars are worse than others.

    Hi Rich,
    Love your channel, fantastic videos. I have this problem on a 99 sl1. Even with a BRAND NEW valve constant P0401's. With the valve off the car I start it but the revs don't go up. It should race shouldn't it? It's a blocked port correct? But which port is the problem, and is there an easy cheap fix?
    Thanks so much!
    Chris

    • @RichpinTv
      @RichpinTv  8 років тому +1

      +charding4000 The small port (intake)sounds like it is blocked because there should be vacuum there with the engine running(high rpm).Did anything come out the larger port (exhaust).

    • @charding4000
      @charding4000 8 років тому +1

      +richpin06a yes, some carbon blew out of there. I didn't check for vacuum but did try clean that port out with a piece of stiff wire. The SES light went out but came back less than a day later.

    • @RichpinTv
      @RichpinTv  8 років тому +1

      +charding4000 So the larger port is not blocked by the sound of it.Now it is just a matter of unblocking the other one.

    Hey Rich not sure where to post this question exactly. .. i also see your in Massachusetts. I'm in NH.
    Question is I had plugs wires replaced do to misfire which fixed it. Then had issues with egr with help from your video cleaned it good and fixed that issue. So now it's running good well I thought. It will run like a champ for like an hour and then seem to sputter and misfire and loss power and sound like running on 2 cylinders. Even backfired once or twice. Let the car sit for few hours and presto back to running good for about an hour or 2 then the issues start up. Just FYI no cel codes either.
    I'm thinking cat but it appears that the cat can not be removed alone. Any help would be great and if you are a me mechanic with a shop I'd consider making you my new garage.
    Thanks for any insight to the issue. O and ya I also have replaced the cts as well

      R White It sounds like it is heat related so coils and ignition module come to mind.

    Hi Rich. What are your thoughts on other reasons the code may be tripped? Could other sensors be responsible, or perhaps bad wiring? I tried your method and the code is still tripped after a reset. I haven't noticed any difference in performance/MPG with the code being tripped.

    I need help. I have 2002 Saturn SC1, with this same problem. I had it in the shop 5 times in the past year. They clean out manifold, the cleaned out exhaust manifold, changed EGR valve 3 times. Now all they are doing is changing parts and charging me. HELP.

  • @olenaerhardt7725

    Can someone recommend good films about removing the Exhaust and especially Intake Manifolds on Saturns? I have a code P0446 and can't remove it. I cleaned passages for EGR valve, Throttle body (by removing it), changed many sensors which might be relevant to the problem, including both Oxygen Sensors (upstream and downstream). Most likely it is one or maybe both Manifolds. The car has ~130K, 2001 Saturn SL2.

    My EGR valve came w/ a metal gasket, it has holes in it and those holes are surrounded by circles. Does someone know if that gasket goes w/circles curved up or down? Does it matter at all? I would appreciate any opinion on this. The car is 2001 Saturn SL2.

  • @hnkfsh81

    My daughter's S-series has this problem. The car has a lot of miles and does not have to pass emissions testing. What would happen if we do not try to clean the passage? Will the car continue to run OK?

    • @RichpinTv
      @RichpinTv  9 років тому +1

      hnkfsh81 What i know is if the egr system does not work as intended you will see a drop in fuel millage beside the obvious of high emissions.

    • @hnkfsh81
      @hnkfsh81 9 років тому +1

      richpin06a Well, I removed the EGR valve and used the end of a coat hanger to dislodge carbon deposits in and around the larger hole of the EGR platform and for a few inches within the EGR passage. I then ran the engine without the EGR valve for 20 seconds to blow out the loosened deposits. Finally, I reset the SES light. The car seems to run fine and the light has remained off for one day. Fingers crossed! Thanks for all your help!

    • @RichpinTv

      hnkfsh81 it never runs ok with EGR system. WD-40 dissolves carbon quick. With brush.

    What is the small rectangular port beneath #1 intake port? Does that need the same cleaning?

    • @RichpinTv
      @RichpinTv  2 роки тому +1

      There is a small port to the left of #4 intake port that feeds up the EGR that has to be free to flow.
