I'm 66 and this song sounds as beautiful as I first heard it as a kid , when relatives would hold " House parties" and the kids were stuck in the back bedrooms and all we could do was listen to the music playing !! " Git back in that room" !!! 😝 this new lead singer does the song justice !!! 🤘
@@denisemitchell8477 So you were about 11 or 12 when the song first dropped. I was about 5 or 6 years old. Around 1970-71. I remeremember it like it was yesterday. I've always been an old soul, loving my parents music, while they were in their twenties. I even remember before then, when the "Classic Five" Temptations, and other Motown greats were still dropping songs. How many of you remember sitting next to the old record players and staring at the mechanical arm lifting and spinning the old 45 records around?...and Oh, yeah, that little flat plastic disc placed in the middle of the hole, or using a penny to hold the arm down? I still remember the sweet smell of the vinyl. Precious memories. One of the reasons I'm a singer, musician today! Thanks Mom and Dad! Check it Out! Ciao!!!
The Friends of Distinction remain one of the Best of the Best soulful quartets for the history books! Flawless lyrics---just the perfect combination of talents, that for me, will always be---Eternal and Unforgettable!
He does an excellent job singing the part the late Floyd Butler used to sing. They’re one of my all time favorite groups and I’m glad to see they’re still performing.
How many THOUSANDS of times they must have sung this song but, the passion in which they performed it with here, you'd never know it. Shows a real respect for their audience, the song AND themselves. Excellent!
Oh my God...just when I thought the Gap Band's version was fire, this is Awesome!!! Thank you Friends of Distinction for giving the world this beautiful classic love music...which has stood the test of time.
I’m 35 and I look like I’m in my late 20s I be looking crazy in front of ppl for loving all these classics. Well it’s 2020 and I’m still listening to this. Wasn’t even thought of when this came out.. but goodness I wish I was in my 20s back then.. peace to all my ppl out there.. enjoy
This song has so much soul, and is so beautiful, it literally brings me to tears. I fell in love with it one day when I "discovered" it by listening to the Billboard Top 100 Songs of 1969. I fell in love with songs on that list, like this and "What Does It Take To Win Your Love" by Junior Walker and The All Stars. I was born in 1971, but 1969 is my all-time favorite year of billboard songs. I have listened to the Top 100 of 1969 many times, and continue to do so. My soul just feels uplifted when I listen to these songs.
Always like this song it's so spiritual to me. The late Floyd Butler was the original singer of this masterpiece but the lead singer on this version did a great job. So much great soul and rhythm and blues music from the 60's and 70's that you don't hear that much now unless you play the oldies. When I think of the Friends of Distinction these songs come to mind and in my record collection, Gracing in the Grass, Love or Let Me Be Lonely and Time Waits for No One.
This is a fantastic rendition, and to all those who say, "It's not as good as the original," take a moment to think about how ignorant that comment is. The original was made in 1969. Is your anticipation the Mr.Butler's voice would have remain unchanged for decades? Should the group stop performing because Floyd has died, and no one else dare interpret the song? I'm certain that Floyd himself would be very happy that this lead carries on his fine tradition .
@@tinaridgley7142 Its just that, An opinion! The guy does an hell of a job. Tho as good as he was that original version singer does it for me. The original singer just relates the story so well, you feels his heart ache. Pretty much like no one does I Wish It Would Rain like the great David Ruffin. Both theese guys are such interpreters of song and as they relate the story makes you feel like how could she do you that way. Give me a pstoll and I'll shoot her myself! Just joking of course!
I was sucked in from the first note he sang. Wow! I've never heard the original but love other versions (Luther - probably WAS my fav). But THIS! His voice is incredible and he sings with such emotion. On a search to find more of him. Thanks for uploading!
The late great Jessica cleaves! A record producer once stated sometimes Jessica cleaves would be late for studio session but would come through the door singing hitting those high notes smooth and effortless. Unfortunately friends of distinction disbanded early as a group.
Love this song. My father still has the 45rpm. I was 6 years old when this came out. Real soul music. I miss those singing groups. These artist now sing with vulgarity and disrespect towards to women.
WOW! Real musicians who can really sing! I am 61 years old and remember this song from my teen years. It's lasted that long! Great to hear it again.... :)

Floyd Butler was the lead singer of this song, he passed away in April of 1990, so this singer is not the original singer but does a great job.

It's a timeless song, and the current incarnation of FOD does it for me just like back in 1969.
