I think Bitcoin uses ECC, not RSA. Can still be cracked using Shor's algorithm so would be critical if real quantum computing is ever invented. I suspect it will always be 20 years away for at least the next couple of thousand years. I'm usually very upbeat about tech but progrss to date seems like a scam.
I was researching this and a Chinese team has broken a 22-bit RSA integer. I understand Btc is ECC but RSA is still widely used. ECC is growing in popularity but at the rate at which AI had improved, that 20 year time horizon could well and easily be trimmed down to 10 years given enough funding.
