Best you can do is practice chai sau, doi jong and especially sam bo jin to build your shock power and deepen your gung lik. Then one day when you eventually go and find a sifu, you'll be able to learn the techniques almost straight away and be able to use the system. Don't worry about techniques for now, just chai sau, doi jong and sam bo jin.
Evo is def the real deal, but there are more of us hidden around the U.S. I have some students in Colorado and will eventually be travelling around the west full time and probably teaching a few students in many surrounding states.
That’s dope. I’m my opinion. The MANTIS DO SAO probably influenced the WING CHUN punch over punch. We do the same exact thing literally. Except we CONNECT to the nose/jaw/neck as fast as possible, but we slide right up that wrist line or crook of the forearm just like you did here. Fantastic man. Really. 😎☮️🤟
Another excellent tute from Arthur. As he says in his intro, it's all about leading with a heavy elbow but as he is trying to explain you must use technique rather than dead/external power to close your opponent. If you use external powers then it becomes a battle of who is physically stronger! ..GM IP Shui would have easily shut down someone 2 or 3 times his size.
I'm very interested in southern mantis is there any place you know in the Midwest that teaches it or could I learn some news from your teachings and through videos?
Noice.... I've been practicing Southern Mantis on my own...using Udemy's Southern Mantis in a nutshell video...and while they demonstrated Dou Gao....as an excercise... they never said what it was for . They demonstrated it as a strength building excercise... probably.. because... it's a really basic, introductory video. It's cool...I truly love the art. But, this video shows the finer points and some applications of that technique......it gives food for thought...for new applications...based on the principles..you mentioned...so thank you As I said ....I do ITF Taekwon-Do and I think that art has some Southern Chinese roots... influences... maybe through Karate... though it looks nothing like Southern Chinese arts ... at first glance. For instance, I think the ITF black belt form Po Eun has Saam Chin influences. I think some of the blocks.. are definitely of Southern Chinese inspiration.. possibly inherited from Karate which has documented Southern Chinese heritage. Anyways... sorry for rambling and thanks very much for the video.
@@EvosBasics How do you mean? You mean you gotta see how it's used first before you can use it? Cos maybe you get too textbook ..too wooden in the application? Hey, do you think that might mean we should train martial arts like people train boxing and wrestling...give practical drills...explain the concepts behind the drill.. and then teach the form as a sort of memory aid for practice or just a solo routine? Like you'd use the form to remind you of what you learned or what you want to work on next time...or just as a solo thing when nobody is around to work with? But when you're with other folks...it's just sparring drills and maybe light sparring?
@@davidbarnwell_virtual_clas6729 no just saying that the exercises they show help you execute the techniques. power and strength development are important
@@EvosBasics Yeah, I agree 💯. It's funny though....you look at the old training programs...they were all big on strength training. It's modern training that sometimes leaves strength training out. Thanks for mentioning that.
Lo Mang is a real life practitioner of Southern Mantis and practices a close cousin lineage of Chow Ga Mantis. So many many similarities. I loved that he got to rep the art in his movies 🐸💪
@@EvosBasics So what U practice is a " Cousin " form of what Mo Mang studies. I NEVER there's so many forms Mantis Kung Fu. Before recently, I thought there's 3 styles of the art. Hey man how's it going it's Timothy I know we spoke once before and you told me you would help coach me on some Southern mantis boxing where would I need to start I have a little bit of experience and iron Ox praying mantis and I do understand that they're two different families but still it's a similar type of system wanting to know just where do I need to start what do I need to do because I personally believe that my area could really use some good old-fashioned Chinese boxing get back at me please take piece
Much respect and gratitude from down under(Australia).

Great to see Mantis more and great videos! Like how you show the applications with the San sau. Keep goin ✌️

Thanks for your vids. been trying to understand the app for that move for a long time. Chow Gar is rad.
Thanks! glad you enjoy the videos
Thanks for sharing this. This is good stuff especially from such a rare system
its only rare if its not shared, hah! thanks for the support
Like your videos you make the application look easy that's good for someone new to southern mantis
Thank you! Just trying to make it more friendly and less alienating to outsiders
There are similarities in all martial arts, its just people like to focus on the differences instead
You are so right on that

Power, both internal and external are necessary for kung fu skill.
Technique without muscle is just old man patty cake.

On the flip side, hard to do applications if you trained the mechanics behind the technique.

When you "roll in" "swallow" your chest. Meaning sink your chest inward. Other wise you will have no power and wont "stick" to the oppentes limb
