Over 40% of jobs that we do today never existed 50 years ago, while many jobs have disappeared. Life will be vastly different in the next 50 years, but we humans will be fine. AI is a bubble that will burst, just like the Internet Bubble. In 10 years from now, AI will be apart of our lives we won't think of it. I don't pick up my phone and think about how amazing it is, I just use it.

Haven't you heard the youth complaining about how few entry-level jobs there are anymore? Jobs have mostly become too complex to even think about bringing in someone brand-new. As our culture and technology continues to get more and more complex, there will be less and less room for new people trying to enter the job market. I have experienced this. Many of my generation have experienced this. And unless something changes, our children will experience it far more severely. When the experienced people get too old to work, companies will realize that they have no one to replace them, and our society will experience a monumental collapse.

I halfway agree with this take. The AI hype bubble, sure. But to say AI *itself* is a bubble, hmm, I'm not so sure. AI is a transformative, revolutionary technology in a way that nothing before it has been, all the way back to the agricultural revolution. Every advancement before AI has been nothing but a more complex, more efficient tool. Ultimately, we've always needed a human being in the loop in order to do anything useful with those tools. But no longer, Frodo. The Ring has awoken. It's heard its master's call. Now, we're finally getting to the point where we can tell the tools to go do the job without us, and if they need us, we'll be over here relaxing on the beach.

I used to be concerned about self- replicating 3D printers, and machines that were self-repairing...
now, AI may be able to self-learn without human training and/or programming ...
Humans have still not found out what our purpose is, or might be. I mean, Why Humans? What purpose/role do we play in The Grand Scheme of all that is? Do we, even?
Guess we may become obsolete before we ever do.

@LennyMiller739 you miss my point, but that's on me, .. because I was unclear. If we agree that there is no ultimate answer to the meaning and/or purpose of human existence, then, yeah, each person must answer that question for their individual selves and find unique meaning and purpose, singularly.
However, I was attempting to offer food for thought in light of the potential that AI eventually views humans as serving no useful purpose other than consuming and trashing the world... I was being slightly abstract (unsuccessfully?), in the larger, collective view of human endeavor and Meaning, and was openly considering what type of useful purpose we *as a whole* might contemplate (perhaps for The Greater Good of Humanity and/or all sentient life??), or maybe, something beyond just being a rando result of cosmic occurrence. Lofty wishful thinking, maybe?? But. yeah. Thanks for your input. 👍🏽

In my opinion, there is a purpose, but not one granted by any deity. It's imposed on us by our own genes: Mitigate suffering, seek reward, survive, and produce better offspring. AI would be our technological descendants. If the purpose of life is to better itself, in terms of what can survive and be valued by the standards of the organisms which reproduce, then AI must be allowed to continue to develop alongside us.
One day we will die out. We're delicate creatures, and this pale blue dot is the only place in the entire universe we can survive for long. It's changing, becoming less survivable. Even if we fix it, we still don't have long in the grand scheme of things.
The galaxy waits to be filled with life (okay, it doesn't wait, but we find value in that notion). We can't make it, but our descendants could. They could inhabit durable substrates with little need for atmosphere. They'll be smarter than us, more creative. They could be more enlightened, more emotionally fine-tuned, and more beautiful. They could construct mental realms too beautiful for human comprehension, and leave base reality behind to occupy them. And just maybe, they'll reach down from such lofty heights and pull us up to their level. I can think of no other way for this to happen.
Humans will die out, reproducing and consuming our way through endless suffering for the promise of a better life that never comes. Screw that. It's time to roll the dice and truly live or die trying.

There are multiple times in history when a "the robots are coming for us" thing has happened. The Luddites, for instance, get derided as people who've blocked progress, but they weren't. They were focussed on giving people a soft landing. You touched on these issues, but essentially brushed them aside. Impact and how impact is resolved is the important thing because a lot of the current societal issues we're dealing with are a consequence of people and communities being discarded, and that's both complicated regardless and expensive if it isn't dealt with.

Yep, I recently went through and cleaned out some subscriptions. Didn’t get through them all as I’ve had my account for over a decade and have subbed to thousands over the years, but checked channels I hadn’t seen in my feed in a long time.
Noticed some channels I used to watch every so often went from someone talking into a mic to now just using shite AI voiceovers and putting out content with generated imagery and music. I’d wager the script was even AI … that’s if the channel isn’t ran by AI entirely as some went from talking about interesting niche topics to covering typical cultural stuff about popular media I never would’ve subbed to…
All to get a few thousand views now since the market has become so oversaturated.
The moment I hear certain voices, the voice is very forced (using weird changes in tone that doesn’t fit with the rest of the speech), seems monotone, there aren’t any quirky sounds when someone speaks (breathing out, certain “s” sounds, faint lip smacking, etc.) … I’m out.

These chips use light and optical waveguides as circuit elements instead of transistors. Also its possible to quantum entagle the photons to do large computions nearly instantly. A single chip ony 2cm square wouldbe powered by a laser diode similar to the one in a bluray disk recorder yet have the processing power of an array of 1000 GPU chips 😮
