A day in JACKSONVILLE, Florida | travel vlog

- Jacksonville, Florida (USA) is the largest city in the contiguous USA. And yet, it has the fame that there are not many things to do here. Let me show you how people are wrong.
We start the day downtown Jacksonville, and despite the rainy weather, we get to see several murals, the famous Florida Theater, and the riverside. We then go visit Avondale, a really nice neighborhood. In the afternoon we start heading towards the beach. After a quick stop at Fort Caroline, we end up at Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach.
Jacksonville, Florida is the first major city in the state when you drive from Savannah, Georgia like we did.
This video is part of a road trip from South Carolina to Florida.

► WHO AM I?
I am a Brazilian-American journalist living in Florida. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!
P.S.: The funny guy who appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and he's actually camera-shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time 😉

@@RenataPereiraTV Yummy. 😀
Why is Jacksonville always empty? She doesn't understand, she lives in Orlando[a city of life]. She mentioned Andrew Jackson but Stonewall Jackson was a Confederate general who influenced the name and Confederate values on the City. Jax was rebuilt after the civil war, they never wanted "northerns" or tourists in Jacksonville. They made sure Jacksonville will never be like Orlando central and south Florida.
Bc its very big city and not overpopulated
Andrew Jackson was NOT a Confederate General, that was Stonewall Jackson... Learn your history
@@jamiedavis1376 yeah......I got the Jackson's mixed up. Yet.....Jacksonville is a Confederate town, that never got over losing the Civil war.
uh, that's not true. In the early 20th century, Jacksonville was the place to be. It was a BIG tourist town with fancy hotels and of course the beaches were a big draw but also was other stuff too like an alligator farm and Ostrich racing. It drew people in until the big tourist places like Miami and Disney World sapped it all away and has been struggling ever since.
So
Jacksonville is so dear to me. A bad case of homesickness!
Hello, thanks for watching. I hope you get a chance to return in the near future.
I just love y’all relationship
Thank you we appreciate
Have you done a tour of downtown Tampa,St. Petersburg and Sarasota if not,it's highly recommended.
Thanks for the suggestion. Its in our ideation stage...trying to move it to production. Any suggestions what to cover? Any hidden gems to capture?
I had no idea that Jacksonville Florida was named after President Andrew Jackson.. i learn something new every time i watch your video's Thank You Renata

Just moved out of Jacksonville and I don’t regret it at all. It was such a horrible city with crime rate, yes it’s pretty but the pretty part does NOT overcome the bad parts.
Facts ain’t nothing pretty out there but crime & crackheads walking downtown that’s why nobody be out there
N boring
Boring a a high chance of being murdered lol
Glad y’all enjoyed
And y’all did come when it was raining everrryyy singgleeee dayyyy!!
I was born and raised in Jax
-A little insight on Jacksonville it is the murder capital of Florida…we have alottt of murders here, population is a little over 1 million people. Duval county also has one of the highest cases OF HIV/AIDS in FL as well.
-Andrew Jackson and Robert E lee were racist leaders so the city is changing the names of the schools that are named after those men.
-Downtown is def boring not much to do there, there are some nice little bars and restaurants down there and u can ride the little scooters around.
-The riverside area is one of the best areas in town. So many shops and restaurants cute hidden bars. It’s so charming there. Older homes and nice big memorial park along the water.
-The beach is prolly the best part of town especially Neptune beach. Always so many tourist and people. Nice food and drink spots to hang out at. (Lemon bar, sliders, habibi & more)
-Parks of town to avoid are the east side and some parts of the north side..i stay on the north side (in the suburban middle class area) mostly black but it’s black people with a little money, the part of the north side that i live on isn’t the bad side..i stay like 20 min from the Florida/Georgia line
- St. John’s town center )south side) is where you’ll see nicer things like new luxury apartments, Louis Vuitton and other high end stores. All the best shopping is over that way so u guys def missed that area.
- A newer up and coming area is the oak leaf area. So much new shopping, new homes and upscale living. It’s more on the deep west side of town. The argyle forest area is also very close to the oakleaf area and it’s nice there as well..
Oh my, I should have had you tagging along as our tour guide. Thanks for all the information. So unfortunate that it rained but those days happen. Yes, we know there is probably more to the city to cover to liven up a video. I think we should return to cover the areas you mentioning.
How do you pronounce your first name?
Thanks for watching
@@RenataPereiraTV YW! It’s pronounced (MEES) or (MEAS) lol it’s sounds like Niece but with the letter M lol
Actually Tampa took the title of Murder Capital of FL.
@@martinasandoval5326 bollllllll
Even if the stats change duval will always b the murder cap
It’s been like that for too long lol
Here for the week so I appreciate your comment 💕✨
Although you covered some stuff but there's a whole lot you didn't. Springfield is an historic neighborhood with a lot of historic houses around. It's close to downtown. Also, there's other things to check out like Chamblin bookmine for those who love books. They have two locations and have a TON of used books in both.
Also, there's the Riverside neighborhood, Five Points, the Cumner Museum. Granted, there's still a lot that's lacking in Jacksonville. It is nice that they're at least bringing street art to downtown and making it look prettier. That's better than how it used to look over a decade ago. They used to have the Landing but that was torn down a few years ago--it was right by the river.
I've been living here for many years and frankly, the city's administration still hasn't figured out how to sell this city to tourists which is a shame since it used to be a big tourist hotspot in the late 19th/to early 20th centuries. Frankly, a better place to go is further south to St. Augustine. That has a ton of history and it's such a pretty town.
Renata: What's your favorite U.S. cities that you had visited this year or 2021? I will love to visits Jacksonville, FLA. after the pandemic is over in 2021!
I think Charleston...loved it
Spoiler, the drawbridge doesn't open. It lifts up like an elevator. Riverwalk is a great place to spot dolphins.
Wow, dolphins all the way up the river. Just like Charleston. Thanks for sharing
@@RenataPereiraTV
I think that Pearl is a bit confused. I used to live in Jacksonville (now live in a small town an hour south) and having walked along the river countless times I have seen numerous MANATEES, especially under the Acosta Bridge.
BTW, downtown Jacksonville was quite a bit different when I was first stationed here in the early 70s. Lots of retail stores downtown, lots of little " mom and pop " cafes for the workers, and Hemming Park was a wonderful garden most months of the year...a nice place to relax during the day.
In the late 80s we got the monorail downtown and every time I am downtown I think of the episode of The Simpsons where Springfield got a monorail. Along with the upgraded public transport we got massive changes in the highway system around the city, much of it near downtown.
THE feature that I would always love about this city is all the little " villages " away from downtown. These smaller, almost self-contained neighborhoods, like Five Points, San Marco, Avondale, Ortega, and many more. I haven't been in too many other cities where renewal hasn't destroyed the nice neighborhood atmosphere.
I live in Jacksonville and didn't know a lot of these things existed.
Cool, glad I can help locals discover their own city. Thank you for watching👍😀
5:59 it looked like a house from American Pie
Yes, very similar
@@RenataPereiraTV Yeah btw. how many hrs from Jacksonville to the beach side?
