Worked in England as an technician & now working In Northern Ireland MOT test centre, I can honestly say the Northern Ireland MOT system is way superior, it's an fairer system for the public
"If there's any doubt, it's a pass and advise".. tell that to 99% of UK test centres who think it's fail everything you can and more if possible to get the work.
Definately. Some testers seem to think the idea is to get every car brand new or off the road. They don't seem to realise their job is to make sure the vehicle meets a minimum standard. After that it's the presenters job to be responsible for near the mark defects
I was asked to remove the sat nav and the car camera from the Fiesta's windscreen by the guy as it's a fail..my car passed with no issues.. they guy before me had a lot of issues £585 to being it to MOT standard..poor Audi A4
You'll never find inner tie rod plays with that method mate. And why do you use four-wheel alignment release pad for inspecting front suspension? Would it be better to use proper chassis shaker tool for that? At least I do so.
Outdated method of testing, and needs to be updated to 2020. as there have been many changes to MOT testing new rules add on's since this way of testing, or taken off youTube because if DSA or VOSA watched you do a test like this? you're going to get points? anyone else see all the mistakes the NT made, yes I know he wasn't a real MOT tester but the other guys was? just one small point now you don't have to use a bar on the suspension, so if you have a test coming up for you MOT license, don't follow this routine, you will FAIL
Nothing wrong with a trip down memory lane. If you're currently training you will be provided with up to date material. I personaly love this old stuff. The pre computerisation days were a right pain in hindsight but seemed cutting edge in the day!
The older chap in this video is a sound geezer methinks! Well done fella !!

A lot has changed since this was first released. This video needs updating if it is to be of any use in today's testing.
Brian was my assessor at Chelmsford. Was a top bloke
And mine at Watford. Don't make them like him anymore.
wonder if he's still alive or dead
There are a few changes since that DVD was made, for latest information visit mattersoftesting.blog.gov.uk/ , www.gov.uk/mot and mtaeta.info/
is this latest up to date if not dvsa should change it every month or publish update date every week

I just help train a new tester and DVSA like you to use the bar as you can’t use the shaker plates in a demo test
