The father of snow boarding - BBC World Service

Known as the "father of snowboarding", Jake Burton helped popularise the sport that was banned by ski resorts until 1983.

In the late 1970s, he had seen the possibilities of using a single board and launched Burton Snowboards to make snowboarding equipment, helping to build the sport's profile worldwide. By 1998 snowboarding had made it to the Olympics.

I had the first p-Tex Burton 150 with removable fins… I still have my Craig Kelly. Almost worked at Burton after RPI… The first time I saw a Burton performer for sale in CA, I knew I had to have a snowboard!

Nowhere in the interview did Jake say he created it. Clearly he said he started his designs based on the snurfer. Also it's Sherman Poppen not Scott.
