I love how passionate and sincere you sound when talking about 3D. Being in the army and In the barracks my 3D is limited although I have a 55 Inch 3D tv I always wanted a 3D projector. I've been researching dual 3D projection systems for when I buy my house. It's supposed to give a more immersive and impactful 3D experience then active. It's so awesome to have 3D fans still out here!
Tommy I enjoy your videos you upload to your channel. I love 3D so much I upgraded my room to black dark with black padding on all my walls and ceiling, I have a 130"'Elite screen & a Epson projector 3020 3D projector. Panasonic 3D player. my effects are so powerful know I replaced the lamp 300 watts 70 volts Epson & sunny pro. Yamaha amp 115X 11 Channes and power Sub & I have 127 3D movies.
In 2022, I began my 3D adventure. I first started with a 42"? Vizio 3D TV and Vizio 3D bluray player for $100. I caught the bug. I then 'needed' surround sound so I bought an old used 7.1 Harman Kardon AV receiver for $40. No remote, sadly. For 3D, I have to run an optical cable from the bluray player to the receiver as as the receiver does not support an HDMI standard capable of 3D. I then bought an InFocus IN112x which I paid $20 for. A generic remote cost $7. That thing has a meager resolution of 800x600 but I still used it before lucking out and finding a filthy Optoma 141x for $100 off of Facebook. I still need to take it apart and clean it. I took the InFocus projector apart down to the component/empty shell level and thoroughly blew out all the dust. I need to do that with the Optoma projector. In the room with the projector, I have 5.1 surround sound from a rather old Denon AV receiver, which I paid $40 for, and use optical cable as the receiver also does not support an HDMI spec capable of 3D content. I did not have an active subwoofer in the theatre room until recently when someone gave away a Yamaha 5.1 AV receiver with speakers for free on Craigslist stating it would not produce sound. I was happy just to have the active sub that came with that, but a little homework revealed that particular model only passed audio through HDMI but oddly would not process it and play it. Weird. But, now I have 3 receivers hooked up in 3 separate rooms. I have a boxed 100" motorized screen for the theatre room I had paid $75 for but have yet to install it. I just use the wall for now. For active shutter glasses, I actually prefer my cheap Boblov glasses for color to the XPAND glasses I have. My setup might be janky to some, but I am very happy with it and have minimal investment. That just makes me proud of my setup. Used is not bad. Obviously, my 3D bluray collection was also bought used. I have way more money in the roughly ~100 3D blurays than all my hardware!
Hi, I am looking to buy a 3D projector and it’s a minefield. Full 3D, 3D ready, 4K, HD, DPL the list goes on. I have no idea where to start and I have no idea what glasses to buy. Please help 🙏
I would pick up the optoma 146X, 3D heaven DLP glasses, and you will need a 3D Blu-ray player from eBay and a high speed hdmi cable. I have a link to the projector and glasses in all my videos.
I have not changed projectors. I put up a suggestion based on the supply chain. I would stick with the lowest priced optoma x series that you can find.
@@TommyBoy3D do you need to use a wall mount, or can I use a stand? I rent a place, and I think the room is big enough and far enough away from where the screen would be, but because I rent the place, I don’t think I would be able to have a wall mount, at least not without asking the landlord first.
@@salsa564 You can put it on an end table. Projectors are made to be used on a table or hung up. You can even show the movie on a white wall and get good 3D with DLP glasses.
When you go to 3D mode and your picture on the screen goes dark head to the settings of your computer or TV and brighten up the image and the 3D will look bright and Crisp like in the cinema. I watch 3D movies on my computer connected to my BenQ projector and you don't really need a 3D player as long as you have a 3D video player on your computer. Go to your computer/laptop settings and brighten up the image and play with the Black settings so that the darks look dark. I use Potplayer, I open up the program hit where it says 3D click SBS (side by side) then look for a setting called Software page flipping, pick a 3D movie from my computer then I turn the 3D on- on my Projector get my glasses hit the button to turn them on and instantly start watching 3D movies.
I’m just getting started with 3D. In fact, I just got my 3D projector last week. I was wondering about region restrictions as I expand my 3D Blu-ray collection. You mention getting a lot of your 3D Blu-rays from the UK. My understanding is that the UK uses Region B encryption. Are blu-ray players in the US use region A. My concern is putting a good amount of money down on building my collection if I’m not able to play a Region B blu-ray. Any advice? Love the reviews! Keep them coming!
Right so any blu-ray I buy from the UK must be "region free" or region A. Because I have a region A player. I heard that there are region free players out there, but I never looked into it. Too many region free blu-rays out there to worry about that.
My LGUH8500 has passive 3D. No batteries needed. I use the brand that came with the tv. Also, when we see a movie in 3D at the theater, I take those 3D glasses home and they work fine also. Hope this helps!
Hey I have a question, so I purchased JMGO 4k that has 3D, and was wondering can you stream 3D movies or do you really have to have a 3D player. Originally I was of the understanding that 3D projectors would make all images in 3D without extra hardware other than 3D glasses.
3D movies can be streamed from services that provide a 3D side-by-side source. Unfortunately the only service that I know of that streams 3D is VUDU. Good Luck.
Question: How do I know what glasses are compatible with my 3D projector? I have a Sony VPL-HW40ES projector and I only know of the Sony brand glasses that are compatible with it, but I am sure there's an aftermarket brand that will be more cost-effective for me. Thanks in advance.
Apologies if you already covered this-I’ve set my benq1070 to eco lamp mode...have you found it generally beneficial to set lamp to normal and/or increase brightness in settings when watching 3D?
@@TommyBoy3D thank you just getting started...ordered Blu-ray ultimate Tahiti got my ultimate 3D heaven glasses ...now I'm just waiting for my remote for my Blu-ray player to arrive so I can navigate the menu🙂💯🎆
@@TommyBoy3D First off...thanks for both the recommendation of the Ultimate Heaven glasses and the review of Ultimate Tahiti..I ordered both after watching your videos. All I can say is wow! The whole experience exceeded my expectations and then some. The Tahiti Bluray was tremendous..not just amazing 3D but a really well made documentary that I loved. Some scenes..like schools of fish or that piece of driftwood jutting out into my living room just made me smile and shake my head in wonder. This Benq 1070 really seems like an incredible 3D projector. One funny note: it’s been crazy hot where I am and just as the BluRay Tahiti credits were ending a giant bug appeared moving on my 100 inch screen. I jumped and was like WHOA...one last 3D surprise from the movie! Turned on the lights and saw it was actually a huge waterbug moving across the top of the screen. Summer in New York. Thanks again for really getting me psyched about this..I feel like I’d it would be hard to find anything better than that Tahiti Blu-ray but I look forward to the next one.

I happen to have a Playstation 4 and still have the glasses. What's your opinion on a working class middle of the road projector and also screen VS wall? Thanks so much!
Hello, i have a lot of 3d movies in my external hard disk. I have a 3d TV but now the screen is broken. I can't to buy a new 3d TV because they are out of production. So i am thinking to buy a 3d projector. But i have an important question: can i watch my 3d movies from hard disk connected by USB with a Blu-ray player or using the program "stereoscopic player" with a PC and then connecting to the projector? Have you tried a region-free blu-ray player with UK Region B movies? Seems like there's some UK 3D movies that just aren't available as region free, or are a lot cheaper as only Region B.
@@TommyBoy3D I've noticed a lot of the Region B titles say they can't be shipped to the US, and what will ship they've raised the per movie cost to painful levels. If I ever get to take a vacation in England I hope to find a used movie store and just go wild. Ha!

Hey. I’m a huge 3D enthusiast. My 3D TV went down and I’m considering a 3D projector. Will it work in an apt and what is the cheapest I can get away with?
How do I watch 3D movies from my computer to my 3D projector? Also do all 3D glasses work because I found my projector inside an abandoned building and it was missing the glasses that are supposed to come with it
Never done that but I believe you would need a 3d graphics card and glasses to match whatever 3d output it does. Research the projector and find out what type of 3d it displays and good luck and thanks for watching.
we talk about the technology of viewing the content , in most cases powered Active shutter glasses are used in some form at home, "but" there are also the presentation technologys that use a activly synced "polarizer" within a Flat panel display screen or projector,, (this also requires a special screen that can reflect polarized light and you will sometimes see this special layer placed over the screen at a Cinema that's why its there ) this is viewed using much simpler polarized 3D glasses there are some projectors that support that type of 3D presentation.. Where things get interesting science wise is the huge differences on how different directors "artistically" use 3D within there films, and how its woven into a the production of scene scripting of 3D films themselves, some directors have really done there home work on how our brain works with stereoscopic images, and how this impacts how a films immersive storytelling is internally recognized as an experience instead of a being perceived as tacked on layer,, for example Cameron's development of the "very unique" 3D fusion camera for capturing live scenes "but" this is also deeply woven into the whole production rendering chain ,, this directly impacts the internal experience of from a viewers perspective , many other producers use the simple side by side lens rig's in both there capture and rendering chain "or" "convert 2D to 3D after production,, whats the difference ? its talked about here in this interview . ua-cam.com/video/fO35Tdb_3Xw/v-deo.html ... dynamic fluid stereo space management and rendering embedded within the films artistic cinematography is very important ,, if you watch Avatar, and other Cameron films you will note the stereo space is dynamically adjusted to fit the "scene space" there are even times where there is certain types of motion where the stereo space is reduced to zero if that type of motion would induce motion sickness . Take a look at he 10K (yes it really is presented in true 10K) 60 frame per second 3D cinematography from "Flight of passage" peoples jaws just hit the floor , flight of passage uses 4 ultra bright laser projectors that use 2 laser light engines producing two different spectrum's of light. both left and right eye frames are presented on the screen in sync "at the exact same time so there is absolutely zero image discrepancy .perceived by the viewer. the internal emotional reaction the viewer experiences is deeply immersive.

Drive angry with nicholas cage is a must for 3d effects an u can get it dirt cheap because without 3d it was very underrated , and I highly recommend any nature 3d especially the sharks, dolphins and even the cgi dinosaurs, dino birds and solar system ones. When u see the sun literally floating in ur room or go cross-eyed when they do a close up of a dolphine face to face because his nose sticks so far out u'll be hooked on them I have every nature one, my nephew ran out of the room the moment he put on the glasses when I was watching the shark one, he didn't really know what it was because the 3d is so intense that with the glasses off it's a complete blur because the 2 images are so far apart.
Doctor Strange in 3d is probably insane, I can only imagine how that movie looks in 3d. I wanted to watch it in 3d when it came out but missed it because I was on Disney cruise and watched it for free in there 2d theater. If you are going to have a standard set-up with a 3D blue ray player and a surround sound system then I would get an Optoma 143X for $400-$450. I know nothing about Bluetooth-ing movies. Sorry about that one. I do not think the Optoma 143X has bluetooth capabilities. Even if it did you would still have to figure out how to get the sound to a surround sound system or sound bar becuase the projector speakers are really tiny and of no use really.
have you ever played with the 3d settings on the projector? are there any settings that should be adjusted for top quality 3d effect? i'm finding it difficult to find out what the settings even do.
meowza3k Most 3D setting have to do with what type of glasses you are using. Whether they are DLP link or RF. Or no 3D at all. The rest of the settings have to do with the picture quality.

Hi Tommy, i enjoyed your video’s. Educational and entertaining. I have a few questions if you don’t mind. At which resolution/input timing did you play your 3d content on your optoma hd142x? From what i understand in the optoma manual is that it supports 720@60hz and 1080p@30hz. Both are for 3d with frame packing which from my understanding is the standard for 3d blu-ray? If so, which one did you use and why? And final question. Does the 3d glasses refresh rate need to match the projector refresh rate? If so than glasses like the hi-shock dlp glasses which support refresh rates from 96 to 200hz will not work when the refresh rate of the projector is at 30 or 60hz? My guts says that i am making a logical mistake here..
I think you gut is right. Maybe? Listen... all this is above me my friend......sorry about that. I never changed my projector from the factory settings. I'm a pop and play guy.
@@TommyBoy3D I’ve found my answers. Resolution and 3d mode can’t be selected for 3d content on consumer-grade optoma beamers. And for the refresh rate of the glasses.. not 100% but I’m guessing that if the 3d input is running at 24hz the glasses needs to support 96hz. Thanks and keep up the good work! 😎👍🏻

Hi I'm looking into buying 3d glasses very expensive I need at least 4 for my kids not including me. Which are the best for the price and are the easy to setup I have the optoma 234xdlp.
Hey there. Excellent info. I have a question. You mentioned capability based on regions. I bought a Projector from China. 8500 Lumens. 21000:1 ratio. I tried to watch 3D movies from Amazon Prime. It said the State does not allow it. Is that because its a Chinese Projector? Also, im going to buy a 3D dvd player so I can play 3D movies. Do I need a special DVD player? And do the DVDs need to be the same region as the Projector?
I don't believe the fact that you bought it from China has anything to do with it. Sounds like its the capabilities (or lack thereof) of the projector. Is the projector 3D ready? Research the model number and look at the specs. It has to have 3D display capabilities. Before you buy the 3D blue ray player make sure your projector has 3D capabilities. Buy a 3D player from e-bay used $70 more or less and it should be a US player (samsung, etc.) Yes the movies need to be the same region as the player unless you buy "region Free" movies. Good luck. Find out about that projector first though. You will need glasses and a high speed HDMI cable and a sound system. Projector speakers suck! I don't know anything about watching 3D movies on PRIME but I would imagine that you would have to up your service because you are receiving two signals and your standard plan may not provide this.
@@TommyBoy3D yes its definitely 3D ready. Glasses came with the projector. There's a video on the projector I watched with my glasses. I bought a region free Sony DVD player yesterday. I should be good? I do need a better sound system though. Any ideas?
@@Exteeeze I have an old 5.1 surround system that I run an optical cable to from the DVD player. If I didn't have that I might go with a sound bar with a a good base speaker. But it all depends on the size of the room. Good luck! thanks for watching!
It could be that that particular movie is a different region code other than "A" or north America. OR the player is not a US player, has to be one or the other.
I am a subscriber and enjoy your 3D reviews. I must admit, I was disappointed in no real information given on your 3D projector since the title suggest there would be. I don't understand what makes a projector "3D ready" or not. Is the 3D player responsible for the 3D signal or is the projector, and if the player, what makes the projector special? Does the screen have to be silver based?
AH. Great questions and sorry about that. So here is what you need to watch a "3D Blu-ray disc" with a projector like mine. 1) you need a 3d blue-ray movie disc. 2) a 3d Blu-ray player. 3) a 3d ready projector. It is called ready because it is ready to receive the 3d signal from the 3d player gathering the 3d info off of the disc and pumping it up to the projector (best to have a high-speed HDMI cable) where the projector puts the 3d image on the wall or screen no special screen needed. Then you put your 3d active shutter glasses on. At this point there are 3 ways the glasses get the signal from the projector. I use the simplest method "DLP link". which means my glasses get the information right from the picture on the wall or screen through a sensor on the front of the glasses, it's just magical. The other 2 ways are from an "infra-red" or "Radio frequency". But I just use the simplest method and its great. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching!
Good little introduction to the world of 3D movies. Have you been a fan of 3D since the beginning (recent beginning around 2008) or only got into it about a decade later? Not sure if anyone has mentioned it in the comments yet, but any model of the Sony PS3 or PS4 can play 3D movies (and stereo-3D games). Also, a convenient thing about 3D TVs vs projectors is that a tv is a more compact and easy-to-move setup, which also has built in sound. Of course, projectors have their advantages too. This can be a topic for a long discussion on its own. Thanks for the video!
One easily accessible 3d player is the playstation 3. I want to find the rare 4k 3d tv that was around 2015-2016. I am looking for an ips panel passive 3d tv. The sony xbr55x900c would be a good grab. LG does ips and oled so I have been looking for either the oled55c6 or a 55uh8500 or 65uh9500. I came by this video because I always toyed with the idea of a 3d projector, but input lag and environmental necessities hold me back (distance/lighting/mounting). They sure are tempting though!

Speaking of lumens, DLP projectors are much darker than 3LCD and I have been told by many people that 3LCD technology is superior for 3D movies because you get nearly double the brightness of the lumens rating, both in color brightness and white brightness. over DLP. So if you have a 3000 lumens DLP and 3000 lumens 3LCD, the visible light on the projected screen is much different. Epson themselves has a demo of them doing a side by side of a DLP vs their 3LCD and showing how much brighter it is. I couldn't believe it. The only downside of 3LCD is that older models had crosstalk issues but I've heard that has been fixed in recent years and using newer glasses that are RF glasses in particular. DLP link glasses only work with DLP projectors and every other projector usually uses RF link
@@TommyBoy3D I have just ordered in a 3LCD so I'll let you know how it goes when it comes in. I'm a huge 3D Movie lover myself with over 100 Blu-Ray 3D collection here. Hey Tommy! Just found your channel after a Search for info about 3d Projectors! My 3d TV now has issues and i've been holding onto as i know 3D tv's aren't made in the USA anymore... I have two questions for you please - 1. How does the 3D on a Projector with DLP-Link glasses compare to a HDTV passive system? and 2. I've narrowed down to these two Models: Optoma UHD50X or the BenQ HT3550, what do you think of those models? And would you recommend anything else in the not over $1500 range... I would like the best movie experience in that range but also some versatility for mild gaming and other shows... Subbed to your Channel ! Thanks for all the INFO !
Well, I have never viewed a Passive system but I believe the 3D DLP projector would have a better picture..As far as the projectors go I'm an Optoma guy all the way....not to say BENQ is bad as I have heard all good things. Not seeing where that BenQ model supports 3d however.
Main man Tommy! Love your set up😍3D movies should strive to give at least ‘some’ pop out scenes, that’s what made me fall in love with 3D in the first place! Really hope 3D tv’s make a comeback in the future…do you think the new Mario movie will get a 3D release!?? My kids loved that film🍿just got them a Super Nintendo so they could play some old school super Mario world…your not a Mario fan unless you’ve played that game!
I think it all broke down at the "glasses" level. The big makers all seem to have their own format. Some were DLP other were Radio frequency or RF and still others were passive. And some of the makers had a monopoly on certain movies. But I can't say for sure as I did not get into 3D till after they stopped making 3D TV's in 2017. I came in at the projector level and I love it. Only way to really watch a movie that has good 3D.
Tommy Boy thank you, I did know that they stopped making them until now. I just got an acer projector that supports 3D, but I don’t know wether it’s passive or the expensive kind of 3D glasses?

I got an Optoma 142X projector, a region free LG blu ray 3D player and DLP-Link active glasses I bought on Amazon.co.uk, £ 18 for 4, a pretty good deal. They're USB rechargable, so no need to change batteries, thats a big plus. As for the movies: Many 50s golden era 3D movies are only released in US region A, so I need to get them from US. Others are only available in Japan (yes, that's region A too), such as Ralph Breaks the Internet, saw it in 3D in IMAX Cinema, but is is very pricey! Others are region B German only releases, such as Gemini Man and Hobbs And Shaw. There is actually an animated Danish 3D movie, that I can recommend: Ronal the Barbarian(2011), however an English language version is pricey, $50 on amazon.com.

You are rocking it!!!! Awesome!
This man’s a legend.
Nice story
Hi, I am looking to buy a 3D projector and it’s a minefield. Full 3D, 3D ready, 4K, HD, DPL the list goes on. I have no idea where to start and I have no idea what glasses to buy. Please help 🙏
I would pick up the optoma 146X, 3D heaven DLP glasses, and you will need a 3D Blu-ray player from eBay and a high speed hdmi cable. I have a link to the projector and glasses in all my videos.
I noticed you have the 190X in a more recent video or something like that instead of the 146X that you have in this video. Which would you recommend?
3d is life 😎
When you go to 3D mode and your picture on the screen goes dark head to the settings of your computer or TV and brighten up the image and the 3D will look bright and Crisp like in the cinema.
I have a 3D player, Optoma projector and active 3D glasses but I can’t get it to work. What settings need to be on?
Projector should be on 3D DLP if the glasses are DLP. If they are there should be a little sensor on the front of the glasses.
Do you need a 3D projector screen also ?? Or will it work with everything you mentioned will a regular projector screen
Regular screen or even a white wall works for me.

How important is the brand/quality of glasses? Any recommendations?

@@TommyBoy3D I’ve found my answers.
Resolution and 3d mode can’t be selected for 3d content on consumer-grade optoma beamers.

And did you find an answer in the meantime?
@@Rick-ng3lr I don't think is possible to be honest
Thanks for the info in the lumens. I never gave it any thought but you are right. I currently have a benq projector that i believe gives out 2200 lumens. But it can play 3d. Just got a free 3d bluray and just ordered some glasses to test it out but i was all set to start collecting 3d movies lol my ebay wishlist started getting big lol. Gonna put that on pause till i test it out with some glasses, may have to return them if i dont like the way they look with my projector.
been using an "old" Samsung 3DTV (samsung un55es7150) since 2014
came with a couple glasses but I'm missing the arms for one pair. still looks great after all these years with 3d and regular media
Hello, have you tried to play 3D movies from your pc?
No I have not ever tried that.
Lots of 3D TVs for sale on OfferUp and Craig’slist
Thanks for the tip! I never thought about them.
Does my projector have to have 3d capability got 1280x1080p optoma
What is the model number? I'll look it up for you.
What is the projector name.. and model.. it's passive 3d??
Optoma 143X and it is not passive.

DLP Active
@@TommyBoy3D Thanks brother. I do have a Polk system I could plug into the back of either the DVD player of projector. I may try that.
Hello, I purchased a NEC 3D projector , but when I try to play my 3D Blu-ray player It sends a legend saying that It can not read the 3D movie
You also need a special screen too for 3d
Baby Bunch No, you do not need a special screen for this type of 3D and this projector.
YOU DO NOT NEED A SPECIAL SCREEN FOR A 3D PROJECTOR...FACT
I got the ultra4k 3d lg tv long time ago must be 4 or 5 years crazy as it sounds from currys about a grand in British money there say most 4k tvs have 3d but don't tell u best going to a shop
@@chrisw7451 Thanks for the reply! I ended up grabbing a 65 inch Sony x900c from Atlanta (about 2 hours away) non working for $300 US. I figured it was the mainboard because it was power cycling with no blink code. A $100 board later, and I am happy.
Great comments. I just never wanted to try the 3LCD as I have always liked the DLP. I will check into that with my next projector purchase. Thank you.
@@TommyBoy3D I have just ordered in a 3LCD so I'll let you know how it goes when it comes in. I'm a huge 3D Movie lover myself with over 100 Blu-Ray 3D collection here.
This is a demo to explain what I was talking about the one released by Epson. It's a few years old but the information is still relevant: ua-cam.com/video/0PMIxnGT2CU/v-deo.html

@@TommyBoy3D no problem my friend tnx for answer me I love your channel keep it
You can buy a 3d bluray from walmart
Sir, upload celluloid 3D Projector technology
I will research it. Thank you.
@@TommyBoy3D Thank you
Main man Tommy!
It did and I reviewed it. Check it out. Thanks for watching!
Why don’t they have 3D TVs in the us anymore?
@@weebleslove469 google the model number or download the manual or both.

Had 141X, it was rubbish. Loud, rainbow effect, light bleed, one side of the screen visibly brighter.
That sucks. Mine is perfect. I do have a 142X though.
amazing
Awesome! Great comments. I did not know about region free players when I first got started. Thanks for the good remarks!
I got into 3D once it started to die off 😮 an soon realized if i was gonna start collecting 4 3D then i would need a serious plan
Don't forget you will need a 3d DVD player, get it from E Bay, a high speed HDMI cable, a 3D movie (region A or region free), use E-bay for your movies, and I like "3d heaven" glasses. Have fun!
@@TommyBoy3D are the 3d heaven ones good like do they work good?

Valerian's 3d was put in post but the 3d is really really good. John carter is a gr8 movie too but i havn't seen it in 3d yet need to get a projector
@@KnotRight4Ever awesome which nature 3d titles do you recommend?
@@ZaddyZavid the universe, our universe, imax hubble, wild ocean, dolphins and whales, ocean predators, flying monsters, planet dinosaurs, mysteries of the unseen world, tiny giants, wings. Just about any you find are good I also have grand canyon, safari africa, sea rex, dinosaurs alive, dinosaurs giants of pantagonia, the penguin king, kingdom of plants, galapagos, micro monsters, conquest of the skys but those are more drawn out documentaries but still some great footage. There is 3 different the universe all of them are good they are done by the history Channel, ones a 3 disc box set then there's 7 wonders of the solar system and last a whole new dimension. I can't remember if it was a whole new dimension or the hubble but when they do a fly by thru whole galaxies it was insane. Any pixar is good especially the despicable me's they do 3d right because they keep the whole image in the screen I hate whole big movies like marvel and transformers wasted their 3d by having half the image out of frame it completely ruins the 3d experience that's why I like the nature ones so much because they keep everything in shot.
