  • Exploring the Legacy of Carl Jung: An Alan Watts Radio Show Excerpt
In this insightful radio show excerpt, celebrated philosopher Alan Watts delves into the profound impact and lasting contributions of Carl Gustav Jung to the field of psychology. Broadcasting from a tranquil country cottage, Watts reflects on Jung's work and how it shaped his understanding of psychology, especially during his exploration of Eastern philosophies in his adolescence.
    Summary:
A Personal Reflection: Alan Watts shares his personal connection to Jung's teachings, highlighting how Jung's perspective helped him balance
    Eastern and Western philosophies.
The Polarity of Life: Explore Jung's recognition of life's inherent polarity, a theme central to his work. Watts discusses the dangers of viewing the universe as locked in a perpetual battle between good and evil, using historical events as examples.
Inner Darkness and Self-Reflection: Watts emphasizes Jung's belief in acknowledging one's own dark side to avoid projecting it onto others.
Accepting this inner darkness, according to Jung, leads to personal integration and empathy.
Humor and Self-Acceptance: Discover Jung's humorous and non-judgmental approach to life, which allowed others to feel comfortable and accepted in his presence.
The Role of the Ego: Watts discusses Jung's view of the ego as a temporary but necessary part of the human psyche, crucial for personal development and eventual transcendence to a state of unity.
Jung's Philosophy in Action: Through personal anecdotes and readings from Jung's lectures, Watts illustrates the transformative power of Jung's ideas.

I woke up this morning attacked by archetypes of self guilt warning of doing nothing with my day, and I wanted to ignore it and spend my day reading Jung. Then this video got recommended to me. And 22 minutes in hit so hard

I try to tell people about him but they end up finding out how he died, and then they lose interest. But I keep insisting they study Alan Watts!!!

I love how this video emphasizes Jung’s balanced approach between East and West. His ideas about integrating both sides of our nature resonate deeply with me. Do you think society is more open to this kind of psychological integration now, or is the conflict between good and evil still too polarized?

I think t he answer to that is as simple as, the people who are ready for this integration are more than ready, and the people who are embedded in good vs. evil are more than ready to escalate. Simple answer. Complicated so far as what to do with it.

The bad, the darkness in us and in the Source of us is not nearly what we imagine. And the light, the good is likewise not nearly what we imagine it to be. It only seems so because of our own lack of understanding of our own nature and the nature of the Source.
Balance is key to all things and the true nature of Us is that of simple happiness.
    Thank you, Us.

On the other hand, the owner of a Corvette could call himself a philosopher, since he knows car enthusiasts and philosophers.
