A little tip I saw on a cooking show once said, if you take a hot pan out of an oven, always leave a towel over the handle, so you don't forget later and grab the hot handle.

As soon as you read out the instructions to cook it for 11 minutes, alarm bells started ringing.
2 or 3 mins a side would have done it there. Glad you still enjoyed it though!

Excellent choice: this is skipjack tuna, so superior to the tinned stuff: healthy, juicy and low in calories and goes well in a salad. Make sure you don't overcook it as it dries out and changes the texture completely. It then ends up like the tinned stuff tougher and dry.. Only surpassed by Blue Fin Tuna which is virtually impossible to obtain in the UK and horrendously expensive and in a completely different league. A small portion of Blue Fin in a San Francisco seafood restaurant will cost you upwards of $200 and is something you will never forget not only from the flavour but the huge dent in your wallet. A Japanese entrepreneur paid over $1.76million for a single giant blue fin tuna so don't expect it down your local chippy just yet..

Love fresh tuna, but really can't bear tinned tuna so I'm really glad you've done this video Gareth. I like mine a little less done so that you can still see the pink of the flesh and that was a really good price, they proper smack your arse if you have fresh tuna in a restaurant. Glad you enjoyed it :)

Hi Gareth,it's a bit like steak so oil the fish with cooking oil rather than the pan and season according. You'll always find it will slightly stick on a griddle rather than a normal frying pan.I personally think it's better grilled.

Good to see you doing this. When you take the tuna out of its wrapping, use kitchen roll to get off excess moisture ; this will help seal the outside quickly when you put it on the griddle, which should be really hot and oiled. As you flip it, you can see it cooking through, so best to take off just before the pink in the middle disappears. If overdone, it will go dry.
Your reviews are excellent. Just think how many people you save from wasting their time/money on crap like bean/half-bean hash browns, tempted by the old gimmick "NEW". Do use the bottom end of the scale 0-10 for tasteless rubbish. A 5/10 gets you a safe pass at GCSE!

I would normally just flash fry it. It should be quite raw in the middle as it does keep on cooking. My hint would be season it after and make sure you eat it on the day you buy it as it goes off quickly and gives off a ammonia smell.

    Great review Gareth.
Fresh tuna is much better to cook than from frozen.
Cast iron is good at holding heat, so never use High heat, but Medium. Also never pour oil, only the lightest smear of oil for cast iron pans or it'll Smoke the place out.
    Oil the food only.
Cast iron pans will continue to cook off the heat for a good 5 minutes or so. After turning the food you can turn off the heat for rare and medium rare.
    Cheers 👍🤤😀

Subscribed. Well done for showing your first try. Defrosted "fresh frozen" tuna is hard to get right. Blazing hot pan, one DROP of olive oil, 1 minute to get the stripes, 30 seconds the other side. Almost raw in the middle. Bob's your uncle. Sit 'em on a board while you do't salad. Salt, pepper, salad with olive oil and balsamic. "Well ahl go tut fut euv ah stairs" - summer 'oliday ont plate 🐬🦘👍😀😮😘. Bloody marvellous. Spend your takeaway money and have DOUBLE THIS.

2 things bud, always oil the food with cast iron, not the pan! Plus never wash cast iron with soapy water! It removes seasoning, (non stick)! Soft scourer ( not steel wool) n hot water, remove's particulate but not non stick which builds up with all uses, lovin the content, atb.

I like to cut up tuna steaks douse them liberally with Mrs. Dash Spicy and salt then poach or pan fry (your preference) in olive oil then serve over steamed white rice with a healthy drizzle of that seasoned oil from the pan) So freakin good! Mrs. Dash is a salt-free seasoning mix with herbs, spices, and dried veg. I’m sure you have something similar in the UK.

NO! Never use soap on cast iron. Use a stiff bristle brush under running water.,.. the back on the hob under a medium heat for a minute or two to dry and sterilize . Then a bit of butter or oil wiped on the pan for seasoning, while it's still hot enough to smoke lightly . Your right as rain then! Great review 👍

I have several cast iron pans..You should of seasond the pan before using...Wash the pan in warm water(no washing up liquid)..dry with tea towel ..Finish drying pan on a low flame for 3 mins..to avoid rust...Then rub oil onto the pan. A very small amount..put into oven for an hour..now it is seasoned. Put pan away..When you use the pan again..always season it with little oil on the gas ring when finished cooking. Don't use washing up liquid on your pan..Invest in a wire brush. If in doubt, look on UA-cam about how to look after your cast iron pan. Brilliant if treated properly.

Ha ha, Skippy was a kangaroo and not a dolphin. There are also loads of tuna in the English Channel, but nobody seems to fish for them. Good video, I'll have to give them a go as I've never had a tuna steak before.

Loads of people catch them around our coastal waters but we have to tag them and release them so the EU fishermen can come here to catch and kill them……work that one out 😡

Hi gaz my im not a tuna fan but me wife would luv em👍. While im getting yer attention , going back some months ago you reccomended the gressingham peking duck. Well ive been eating that for a long while and loved it. But recently its tasted different, the cooking times have changed, the instructions are different , and low and behold the gressingham duck wich you would presume comes from the uk now comes from the far east- thailand!!!!!.whatever next - we will probably be getting yorkshire puddings from china!!. All best a very confused steve. Ps loved the bacon review , made me feel at home.😜👍

Fish is extremely nutritious and very low in calories. I love fish and will definitely be looking for this in Aldi. Aldi's fish section is getting really good. I've been eating their smoked haddock every week for years, and recently they introduced smoked hake, which has a similar taste, but just a little sweeter than haddock or cod. I've eaten both smoked haddock fillets for this week, but I still have Aldi smoked mackerel fillets seasoned with piri-piri in the fridge and they are well tasty grilled. Mackerel, however, is an oily fish, so not low in calories, but still very healthy with lots of natural omega-3 fatty acids. One fish website states: "Packed with protein, heart-healthy and brain-boosting omega-3 fatty acids, as well as minerals and vitamins, smoked mackerel is a terrific fish to include in your diet."

Mackrell has good oil cholesterol reducing good for your heart but if its calories your worried about then do some press ups after your Mackrell and can eat at much as you want 🤣..high calorie diet isn't unhealthy look at body builder they eat like 10 meals a day but they burn the calories off which is what it's all about 👍👍✌

Oh no.... thats obv not good quality tuna from the center of the fish, but you really need to try it seared both sides, "raw" or "glaciated" in the middle with a sweet lemon and lime dressing over the top.... cook tuna to much and it will go like rubber... Thank you for sharing sir :)))

    • @BaldFoodieGuy
      @BaldFoodieGuy  2 роки тому

i dont think i would like it raw in the middle to be honest.
