🔎 What is brass music? Where does brass music come from?
Brass music is a broad term that refers to many musical genres or styles. It includes brass bands, fanfare bands and horn quartets. This term has been used since the 19th century, mainly in German-speaking countries, to refer to musicians in an orchestra.
The members of the band are committed to maintaining the cultural and ecclesiastical life of their village and to representing their community at outings.
Like so many words, the term "culture" comes from Latin and means cult or care. More broadly, it encompasses many areas of human life, such as education, tradition, morality or way of life. In terms of the music band, the mainly cultural aspect is the music itself, for example the entertainment and the performance of individual pieces. There are many opportunities for this in a community, such as the highlights of the musical year - the spring concert or "Cäcilia" concert. But there are also various events at which the musicians demonstrate their skills at marches. These events are showing the tradition and the culture of the region, sometimes at concerts for the tourists.
Religious events are also part of a band's program. A procession without musical accompaniment - almost impossible. The church is a place of music, whether with the whole band or individual small groups. An event is better remembered through music and with music uniqueness is proven. The music of the brass bands are showing the individuality of the area. Especially in Tyrol, this is part of the village image and is highly valued. Perhaps that is why there are more communities than music bands, for example 279 communities to 303 music bands.
In order to bring this culture to the world and to show how unique the customs in our region are, we would like to present a small selection of them to you in this video.
