    Was sent here by my cohorts on in Halloween Forum. One of the best foam pumpkin builds I've seen. I am definitely going to try this out. Will see how well it carves when I'm done. Looking to make about 24" head for my 'walking scarecrow' want something that will last from year to to year.

      I did a successful build and carve of a pmpkin using this method, although I should have used more foam to start, had to touch up after the fact. Made an excellent head for my walking scarecrow beast

      Do you use the Fire Great Stuff strictly because of the color or does it fair better than the other types of Great Stuff? I used the regular Great Stuff on my Cauldron Creep to make it look like the cauldron was bubbling over but have noticed it tends to break off.

    • @StiltbeastStudios

      Tayman Graveyard Haunted Theme Park Yes, it is necessary. the interior fabric allows you to apply moisture to both sides so the foam cures faster. The fabric also helps hold the pumpkin together when the creases go deep on the pumpkin. iit will not stand up to a sharp blade though so they are still carve-able.

    This is GREAT! I have a question. I live in a SUPER windy spot. What do you suggest for weighting this down?

    • @StiltbeastStudios
      @StiltbeastStudios  3 роки тому +1

      you could add a few rocks inside, or you could pin them to the ground with landscaping staples.

    Could you do this but with balloons on the inside (to make them smaller) and only "wrap" the outside layer?

    • @StiltbeastStudios
      @StiltbeastStudios  3 роки тому

      maybe...yes for balloons, maybe on the no fabric inside. the foam needs moisture to cure without exposure to air, so the fabric is a means of holding moisture inside for the foam to use. thinner than 3/4" you should be fine, but thats tough to manage.

  • @carolcapito7577
    @carolcapito7577 Рік тому

    Is there a specific reason for the need to cover the ball with fabric first? Could you skip this step and spray the foam directly onto the ball?

    • @StiltbeastStudios
      @StiltbeastStudios  Рік тому +1

      not really- the wet fabric inside helps the foam cure from both sides. it will take a really long time to cure if you only have the fabric on the outside because as the outside cures it seals off the inner foam from the moisture it needs to cure.

    Q; Why not a garbage bag vs cloth on top? And why not string vs elec tape? Since you don't take out the beach ball why wrap it in cloth? If it grabs the foam better wouldn't a primer coat work just as well?

    • @StiltbeastStudios
      @StiltbeastStudios  6 років тому +1

      Because the foam needs moisture to cure and the cloth holds moisture for the foam to use, a garbage bag would contain, but not keep an even level of moisture.
      I used e tape because I feared string would be covered over by the foam as it expanded around and over it.
      Again the fabric inside is necessary for the foam to get moisture as it cures.

    I love your projects. I was wondering with this project could you deflate the ball and carve a face into it? If so, at what stage of the curring would you do that. Im trying to make a corn scarecrow and paper mache would be more difficult.

    • @StiltbeastStudios
      @StiltbeastStudios  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Cory, yes you can remove the ball (easier if you carve it) and do your carving last- I accentuate the carving with a bit of sculpted detail with locktite foam.

      Brad Goodspeed Yu can use wet fabric to smooth the spray foam and lose that lumpy texture. I use that a lot- but pumpkins are a great example.

    Love Love Love your creativity.....question...you mentioned that you can reuse the outside cloth to cut down on cost...do you clean the foam remnants that are stuck to the cloth, if so how do you go this? Thanks so much!
