Over a million dead of starvation and disease will do that. That isn't even counting those who expatriated and died in those coffin ships. Some of the ships weren't even seaworthy and went down, but many were practically floating sanitariums. If you die at sea, they chuck you overboard. Many died in quarantine once they made it to port. There is a traffic island near Victoria Bridge in Montreal, Canada with around 6,000 Paddies buried under it. Something like 1 and 3/4 million left and only 600,000 to 800,000 made it. The real kicker? While all of this was going on in Ireland, British landlords continued exporting 85% of Ireland's gross domestic product. It wasn't a famine; it was genocide. And just think, a hundred years later Winston Churchill was damning Joseph Stalin for doing the same shit.
@@nickaschenbecker9882 So it's Churchill's fault something like that happened 25 years before he was born? Even his father was born the year it ended, so you can hardly blame him. You can't pin a countries sins on people who weren't alive at the time, nor consider them hypocrites for calling out someone for doing something their own nation wrongly did. So yes, Churchill damning Stalin was quite valid.
I was there. I sang every word in sync with Alan 🤟 Met the band in the pub afterwards and had a few whiskeys with Alan and talked all sorts of worldly and other worldly ideals. Great night will always have fond memories. Primordial we hail you🇮🇪🔥🍻
I am so deeply in love with this band... the only one I follow to gigs through Europe, basically :D The Coffin Ships was so immensely moving in London, this year... Alan reaching out to English fans especially, there were a lot of wet eyes in the audience afterwards. Unbelievable.
This song always gives me chills. So much emotions, it's almost as if you could go back in time in see with your own eyes what happened then. Thanks your posting \m/
Such a great band who are not given the recognition at home that they deserve. They are definitely more popular in mainland Europe than Ireland which is a shame
This song, this live capture, is so perfect it gives me chills every time I watch it. And I come back to it often. There's something to be said about a band when the audience sings along so well it can be heard above the band. Truly a great band. Thanks so much for the upload!
SUPERBLY captured video of a Great band. I only discovered them through Vlad Tepes and for this I offer many many thanks. A fantastic video my friend! This version game me goose-bumps al over :)
Magus Megorra Thanks you very much for these kind words !! Well this song is magnifiscent, maybe the best of Primordial. I'm glad of you discovering and enjoying so much this band which deserves it. Stay well my friend !
Did you notice? They drink Heineken during the show. That's interesting, I like Czech or German Pilsner beer, but not the ubiquitous Lagers, I find them too malty.
@@VampyrTepes Never mind, it's just an unimportant detail anyhow, which caught my eye. On a second glance I also recognized a can of Guinness there. Freshly tapped Guinness in pubs in Ireland is amazing, but the canned version is not quite the same quality.
One of the most emotionally moving songs ever recorded by any band.
I think you're right...

@@jonathonrose5141 you're absolutely right. It's like blaming present-day Germans for Nazi crimes.
