Also, the lower gauges are for the secondary braking system only. Under normal braking they should both be at zero. These will move with the parking brake on as that uses the secondary braking system. Under emergency braking without anti skid the system is limited to 1000 psi, this the green section. 🤙🏻
Hey Stig, I take exception to the comment about being towed to the old United Hanger. To me, it will always be the old Continental Hanger. My dad worked there in the radio shop from 1969 to 1983. I lost my father 20 years ago but I still have memories of him taking me to work and seeing those big beautiful DC-10's with the meatball logo on the tail. I want to thank you for your videos. There is something special about what all of you talented folks do behind to scenes to keep airlines moving and passengers safe.
You know what James, I owe you an apology and I owe everybody an apology, you’re absolutely correct on this. That is the old Continental Hanger. You inspired me to make a video, I’m going to go inside that hanger and give you a tour of it later on.
Like you said one day, 5% is tears of menanics. There was about the "plastic Princess". But 95% of your job is a pleasure for you and 100% of yours videos is a pleasure for me. Encore une excellente vidéo Monsieur Stig.
Thank you for us showing us the bigger picture when it comes to airplanes. It's more than just taking off and landing. I'm also fascinated with airplanes and aviation in particular. Your videos are impressive and I have so much respect for you guys who are working behind the scenes to make everyone safe during their flight. ✈️💯🤜🏽🤛🏽
It's what's not seen that counts. My coworker went to special rigging class to learn how to properly rig cables on aircraft. C141 USAF. 1980. Is complicated.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 that was very funny, but I’m gonna give you a slight correction on this one, the max -8 does not have a door plug, only the MAX-9 has the plug. But funny regardless. 😂
I’ve really been obsessed with these videos, I work in the automotive industry and after watching these on and off for a few weeks I think I’m going to chase my a&p cert and go back to school
Even I felt goosebumps 1:26:00 😮 that chill cold presence. I’ve experienced it once at my buddys old house. It’s speechless specially when an object moves.
Another great video. I know your pain in regards to blocked galley drains, most blocked by coffee grounds with orange juice pulp. If you ask cabin crew they “never ever put coffee or orange juice down the drains”, wonder how it gets there then. Chapter 38 is the worst, on classic 747’s the “golden dip” was stomach churning, 2 plastic bags on your arm, reach into the toilet tank to clear solids from around the dump valve or from around the screen on the flush motors, lots of fun. Vacuum toilet systems are better and give less problems. One thing I have noticed in vacuum systems is that solids accumulate in unused tubes. As an example, during a reconfiguration on A330-200’s a toilet was added fwd of door 2 right and was attached to an existing unused ducting. On the first aircraft the tube was full of solids from the mid cabin toilet connection to door 1 right. Removal of the tube was done off shift on overtime due to the horrendous smell and it took the cleaners days to get the tubes clean. It was the same on all the aircraft. Something to keep in mind if you are unlucky enough to have to break into unused toilet tubes. Another bit of experience is that even with regular ice and vinegar treatments to the toilet systems a calcium like buildup can accumulate in the tubes and if some passenger puts a solid object in the toilet it can block the tube, had this happen on a 747-400. Draining the tube without contaminating the aft cargo Wa the difficult bit. Tape plastic tube ( plastic bag type plastic in a tube not a plastic pipe) and run that into a toilet cart, disconnect the clamp from outside the plastic rapping, all liquids and solids contained and directed into the toilet cart. That’s probably enough for now, hope you find these things useful.
When I completed 3 years of automotive technical college I got my first job at a Ford dealership. For 8 months they put me on the ‘lube rack’. I did oil changes & tire rotations all day long. To make matters worse they made me pack front wheel bearings. In those days disc brakes hadn’t come out yet. It was fun in the winter or when it was raining as the wet speedy dry became a paste all over my shirt. Believe me when I say I would’ve LOVED doing Chapter 38’s all day long - non stop! The ghost story was Boootiful. Loved it Stig 👻✈️

It never ceases to amaze me how aircraft & technology is moving on….each year there’s something new ( a nightmare for engineers !!) I grew up living next to LHR, worked airside for 10 years, have flown on aircraft from the BAC111 to Trident 3 to B727 to A380 (even Concorde simulator (I was working nearby and was asked if I wanted to go for a flight !!)) and whilst the basic shapes stay familiar they keep cramming more and more under the skin !!!!….GREAT channel Stig, God Bless engineers…THEY make the aircraft fly !!!
You mentioned the FADEC and how they can run even without power - the craziest example of this has to be Qantas 32 after the HPT blade sliced through a chunk of wires like 8” thick and cut off control to the #1 engine. It’s a double-edged sword though, as NO ONE could shut down that engine after landing. I think they eventually snuffed the core out with foam, but nothing else worked. Those engines are SO complicated, it’s incredible how self-sufficient FADEC can be even when literally cut-off from the rest of the aircraft.
The old adage once you see something you can't unsee it is very true after your demo of turnbuckle cable. They jump out to me now whenever you show the wheel housing. 😂
Stig, your videos are always excellent and full of interesting information. Don't be hard on your editing skills, which happen to be excellent. I am not a creator, so I can only imagine how much work/time it takes to edit your videos into an hour-and-a-half video. I know you always strive for perfection, and to me that is what you always do. You are a kind soul, and just know that you are loved by tens of thousands of Stig fans, including me! I love your ghost stories. The one you mention in this video is truly scary. My favorite airplane ghost stories are about a few planes that had salvaged parts from the wreck of Eastern Air Lines L-1011 'Flight 401' ...truly frightening for a few crew members. I could not put the book 'The Ghost of Flight 401' down until I was finished reading it. Take care Stig 👍
Thanx for sharing God & ghost stories. Ive experienced some too but people think youre crazy so I don't tell usually. I drove trucks for the city for 26 years and some incidents convinced me of presence.
I have a ghost story too. I'm a retd Marine Engr., retd 2014. 76 now. I always wanted to learn how to drive a truck otr. So l got my Class A Iicence thru CRST. I was driving thru W. Texas when my shift ended. So l found a nice place off the road, did my shutdown chk, air pressure leakdown, tires etc. It was Winter, chilIy. So l hopped into the sleeper nestled up under the blankies and zonked. About 0230 or so l heard what sounded like a trap draining condensate. Couldn’t understand why. Engine off. No pressure buildup. So l ignored it. Drifted off. About an hr later, same thing. Repeated again about an hr later. It was pretty isolated where l'd parked. So l thot someone had possibly stopped and was opening a reservoir drain. So l got up brot my flashlite and checked the whole rig, stem to stern. Nobody around. Nothing amiss. So back aboard, back to sleep. TilI Morning. Went thru startup check, nothing amiss. Took off routinely. Kinda spooky. Never was able to find anything amiss.
Watching from New Zealand, I just loved what I saw: 5:55 The last one just gave me goosebumps.. I've encountered the same thing ,walking home around midnight and I'm barely lift up my legs. It's like someone was pulling me from behind and I couldn't even scream until it's gone when I opened my door.. scariest day of my life 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for the video brother 🙏
Your videos always give me some kind of comfort, every time is see one of your videos i can finally relax after a day of hard work and learn something new, please never stop being awesome (and making videos) ❤
YESS!! Its 12:08am and I was about to go to sleep because I am getting up at 5am to get to work 2 hours early... I am watching this now.. lol. Ill get through Friday and take a nap later!!!!! STIG SHIIIIIIFT FOR THE WIN!!!!!
@@EstorilEm not me. I WILL be there 2 hours early .. Its my favorite time of the day. No one there, no phone ringing, crank my music and get a jump start on my shipping... Ill sleep later😂😂
I don't like doing drain and sewer line work. Always stinks. I've learned to use gloves, too, as the sludge in drains and traps is like indelible ink!! I'm a glider rated pilot, and the cockpit is still a thrill. Working on large aircraft, in the cockpit, you'd never get me out of there 😁
Was gonna go to bed, but I saw this and this changes everything!!!!!!!!! Baby wake up, Stig just posted. I noticed my week was incomplete, couldn’t put a finger on it till earlier today and voilaaaaaaa.
Hey stig, early on in the video you explain about the CFM LEAP 1A startup, and you said don’t ask me about PW 1100-G, but here’s how it goes. When starting up, the pilots switch to ign start mode, and press DUAL COOLING which will engage both engines into a cooling process. This will slightly rise N1 and you would see both engines moving. After roughly 45 seconds, fuel flow will engage and the N1 will rise on ENG 2. Once ENG 2 is on and AVAIL, then we start ENG 1 master, and because of the dual cooling, ENG 1 would start as fast as an IAE V2500 engine. I hope this makes sense.
Also I have never cocked off of another video faster so that I can watch another video. Stig, your content is amazing and thank you so much for all of the knowledge that you share!
It's good that you show some of the seemingly more ordinary details, such as the wheelchair. I'm sure a lot of ordinary passengers, such as myself, watch this as well, and it helps deal with the anxiety of flying. I make frequent trips between the US and the Philippines, and I have some mechanical experience myself in other industries. I just find it interesting.
There’s lots of fun little amenities that the aircraft has which is also accessible to passengers, it’s just that people don’t know about them. I’m glad I can share some light onto the simple things and Aviation.
I’ll always remember the A319 went from the UK to Greece hit bad weather over the alps passengers that hadn’t got their seat belts on hit the ceiling of the plane ambulances waiting for us in Greece , it went back empty because of injured crew.
after watching all 45 episodes of STIG SHIFT, and then now watching them a SECOND time, I really do believe that I could probably now: 1) turn a Boeing OR Airbus plane ‘ON’ in the cockpit, and (at least) get some dashboard lights to blink at me, 2) top off the oil in both engines, 3) change a tire/brake fan out, 4) replace a blown-out lightbulb in the wingtips, and….. 5) maybe even unclog a forward galley sink drain that’s stopped up with coffee grounds LOL!
Heavy frame gas turbines and steam turbines are the same. Prior to turning and startup of a cold turbine the bearing lift pumps must be started to lift the (very heavy) rotors off the bearing shelIs. Then the turbine(s) must be placed on turning gear and turned tilI the shaft(s) straighten. Only then can the gas turbine be fired up and steam be admitted to the steam turbine prior to paralIeling and Ioading.
So glad to hear you’re a man of faith Stig, your humility and sense of humour are translated perfectly in your videos. Only a man so enlightened can walk through life with a permanent smile on his face. Love your videos.
Being a fan of aviation and the paranormal the ghost stories are the best part of these videos. Before and after, i learned about flight 401 and the many ghost sightings.
@@kzinxqolyzukarinkuari1602 watch some of the heavies lose momentum in a sharp turn or something… they’ve gotta throttle WAY up up to get going again. Sounded way cooler back in the day with the low-bypass engines.
Got to have a look at the cockpit because I was doing an unaccompanied minor thing, and I was talking to the pilot about systems and stuff and I noticed his right landing light was on and I told him and he switched it off and had a good laugh 😂
As always, I love how much I learn from your videos. I'm Team Brake Ride... I don't know why, but those clips are so relaxing. That ending Cargolux shot... WOW. Absolutely beautiful! It made me smile to hear you get a bit philosophical... your joy for your job and life, and just the goodness and gratefulness you have, come shining through in your personality. As always, thank you for sharing and teaching all of us normies!
Another awesome Stig adventure. Awesome and informative video, I enjoy watching your videos. The recent ones you posted are outstanding, maintenance is not just a job, it's an adventure. There's always something different to fix. Thank you brother for what you do, later🤙
The complexity and engineering that goes into these aircraft are beyond astounding. Your knowledge and expertise is appreciated a hundred fold due to the former sentence. Great video as always! Maybe one day we get a face reveal mystery man.
hey stig, last week i flew out to amsterdam and when I got there i decided to take a look around the massive Schiphol Airport, lucky for me i spotted an ACT doing a walk-around and I immediatly thought of you, i was amazed to experience a simple walk-around because I knew some of the things that your colleague was doing and thats all on you, thank you for all the knowledge you give me and all the other fellow aviation enthusiasts !
Goooood morning stig! I've been an avid viewer for a while now and I gotta say I absolutely love seeing this kind of thing every day I am absolutely infatuated with aviation and everything that comes with it. Your dedication to the craft is outstanding. Love the videoes, thank you for all the insite, I have learned so much from you. See you in the next video.
I still can't get over how busy it is the the landing gear wheel well of all these large A/C every time I see it. Seems like a majority of the systems come together and/or connects in there. It looks like a jungle.
That’s funny! As you were showing the Cathay Pacific Cargo landing I thought to myself, wait there wasn’t a “cargo never disappoints” segment! Either that or I missed it somehow! But alas, no sooner I thought that, and you put it in! Great video as always Stig!! And for what it’s worth, I think you do a phenomenal job of editing and narrating. Keep up the great work you do and have a fabulous day!
Talking of ghosts not being able to see touch or stop it. Well I got a regular visitor that loves waiting for me to nod off before it’s starts to poke my head lift my arms to name but two and yes it feels like real contact I can’t touch it but it makes contact with me. For years I didn’t believe in spooks or the afterlife but since this started a few years ago. I sure do now! I’m not afraid of it for some reason and I like to think it’s someone who knew or knows me. As for who I got no idea as sadly I’ve lost a lot of people I loved very much since childhood. I suppose one day I’ll meet my invisible and departed annoyance and it will probably turn out that I don’t know who it is after all 😂 anyway stig another great video cheers bud!
Thought i should share this tip Back when i worked at the hospital, we had a bottle of peppermint oil in the engineering room and in the operating room charge desk for bad smelling times. Idea was that you put a bit on a hospital mask, throw that on, and bam, just like that you got a portable air freshener. Helps a lot when things are covered in poop.
Love watching these as you’re doing what I do but for commercial aircraft. I maintain one type of aircraft, the B-1B but want to do this after I finish my service
I highly encourage you to get your airframe and powerplant certificate as soon as possible. When you get out of your tour of duty, apply to the major airlines. They love military folk. 🤙 and thank you so much for your service.
34:04 I think we love listening to ATC because it brings us back to being young, covered in dirt, and exhilarated at talking to our friend via Walkie-Talkie 5 houses over. It’s also one of the few remnants of an analog system in aviation that still has no practical, digital replacement. And there’s just something cool about that 😊
Love America West - it was our hometown airline here in Phoenix. You can tell when you have a flight crew that is America West. Generally nicer than old school American or US Airways flight crews.
I was part of that family, here in LAX, out of terminal one. We were a small airline, it’s like having a family, we were all brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers uncles and aunts It was a beautiful time
Awesome video Stig as always! Love the cars and the ghost story! From one who works in a historic building museum I am very much aware of ghosts/spirits so nothing new for me. The tire portion of the poster was pretty interesting. So many different detail you have to look at when inspecting the airplane tires! Thank you for another very educational video!! ☺️🤙🏻
That lock wire and blood… I don’t know how many times I have done maintenance on my jet engine for my bike, and punched my fingers on that steel wire end. It’s effective though, keeping everything in place. That cold startup is an issue for me also, I need to preheat the engine, either with gas during startup or with a blower torch or else it won’t catch rpm and run. If I go on too hard, it will be a hot start. That’s bad. Great film again. Thanks.
O h my goodness Stig, this was one of your all time best, the Ghost story put it way over the top. I can say as a Christian believer I loved your spiritual talk. If you have a Bible study it. Acts 4:12. You are awesome!!

So back aboard, back to sleep. TilI Morning. Went thru startup check, nothing amiss. Took off routinely. Kinda spooky. Never was able to find anything amiss.
Thank you so much for sharing that Andrew. Much appreciated
Jumpscared by the voice of the safety briefing, guess there's always surprises in your line of work!
Never dull moment
As always, thank you sir!
My pleasure!
46:46 that little tribute to your father carried immense weight. I'm sure, very much like yourself, he was a great man.
I could never fill his shoes, he was the greatest man I’ve ever known. I miss him dearly.
Predator last week and Top Gun this week… you’re on a roll Stig! Keep,up,the great work. I always look forward to a new shift.
You know i didn’t even plan for that 😆. Total coincidence. But im glad you caught it
the ghost story caught me off guard
Sorry about that 😅. Hope it didn’t spook you too much
@@StigAviation don't be. I thought i was tripping at first. Great filming
American Airlines always gives out pillows and blankets in each chair so welcoming ❤ and the cabins always super clean 👍 great service
I’m so happy you had a good experience. Thank you so much.
Excellent video, yes I learned more, thank you.
Remember, no bubbles-no troubles.
Thank you so much, as always James
Watching from New Zealand, I just loved what I saw: 5:55
The last one just gave me goosebumps.. I've encountered the same thing ,walking home around midnight and I'm barely lift up my legs. It's like someone was pulling me from behind and I couldn't even scream until it's gone when I opened my door.. scariest day of my life 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the video brother 🙏
Thank you for being here. I appreciate you
Your videos always give me some kind of comfort, every time is see one of your videos i can finally relax after a day of hard work and learn something new, please never stop being awesome (and making videos) ❤
It’s my pleasure, thank you so much for being here and watching
YESS!! Its 12:08am and I was about to go to sleep because I am getting up at 5am to get to work 2 hours early... I am watching this now.. lol. Ill get through Friday and take a nap later!!!!! STIG SHIIIIIIFT FOR THE WIN!!!!!
lol same here, so many comments like this. I wonder how many people are going to call in late this morning. 🤣
@@EstorilEm not me. I WILL be there 2 hours early .. Its my favorite time of the day. No one there, no phone ringing, crank my music and get a jump start on my shipping... Ill sleep later😂😂
Thank you so much for being here, I appreciate you Mike and everybody else that stays up late 😅
@@StigAviation I definitely finished it. Stayed up until about 2:00 a.m., got up at 5:00 a.m. and made it to work on time!! Lol.. well early on time 😂
I don't like doing drain and sewer line work. Always stinks. I've learned to use gloves, too, as the sludge in drains and traps is like indelible ink!!
I'm a glider rated pilot, and the cockpit is still a thrill. Working on large aircraft, in the cockpit, you'd never get me out of there 😁
Anything got to do with drains or sewers is never a fun thing
Was gonna go to bed, but I saw this and this changes everything!!!!!!!!! Baby wake up, Stig just posted. I noticed my week was incomplete, couldn’t put a finger on it till earlier today and voilaaaaaaa.
I blame Stig for my continued insomnia 😂

Well said!
I always wake up to watch stig's shifts at midnight
@@Dash7x we will be there no matter what💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Hey stig, early on in the video you explain about the CFM LEAP 1A startup, and you said don’t ask me about PW 1100-G, but here’s how it goes.
I’ve been doing my research, and yes, that’s the exact same thing I read as well. But thank you so much for giving me more information on this.
Also I have never cocked off of another video faster so that I can watch another video. Stig, your content is amazing and thank you so much for all of the knowledge that you share!

Thank you so much for being here Wyatt
Always wear your seatbelt, no matter what, rule of thumb
after watching all 45 episodes of STIG SHIFT, and then now watching them a SECOND time, I really do believe that I could probably now: 1) turn a Boeing OR Airbus plane ‘ON’ in the cockpit, and (at least) get some dashboard lights to blink at me, 2) top off the oil in both engines, 3) change a tire/brake fan out, 4) replace a blown-out lightbulb in the wingtips, and….. 5) maybe even unclog a forward galley sink drain that’s stopped up with coffee grounds LOL!
They pretty much make it user friendly
Thank you for answering my question about bowed rotor motoring😊
Heavy frame gas turbines and steam turbines are the same. Prior to turning and startup of a cold turbine the bearing lift pumps must be started to lift the (very heavy) rotors off the bearing shelIs. Then the turbine(s) must be placed on turning gear and turned tilI the shaft(s) straighten. Only then can the gas turbine be fired up and steam be admitted to the steam turbine prior to paralIeling and Ioading.
My pleasure. Hope it made sense
Nice to have a tool from your father that you can use every day to honor him. I miss my dad every day.
Indeed it is, I miss him very much, but I remember him every single day I used the tools he gave me.
So glad to hear you’re a man of faith Stig, your humility and sense of humour are translated perfectly in your videos. Only a man so enlightened can walk through life with a permanent smile on his face. Love your videos.
I smile because life is good. I get to wake up and I’m happy I got to wake up.
Being a fan of aviation and the paranormal the ghost stories are the best part of these videos. Before and after, i learned about flight 401 and the many ghost sightings.
I’m very happy you’re enjoying it David
Thank you for the upload, Stig!
My pleasure!
The Air NZ All Blacks livery is my favorite! I flew an A321NEO in that livery from Gold Coast, AU to Auckland 5yrs ago
NZ livery is one the of beautiful ones out there
Forget going to sleep!! Stig has loaded his video!!! Yay!! ☺️
Thank you 🙏

I think it is really cool that you get to work with at least one of your fathers tools!
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos.

Thank you so much Bill.
Lol!! I loved how that 737 struggled to go up that tiny hill 🤣❤
That’s a lot of weight, even a slightest little hill. It has a little trouble, but the pilots bumped the thrust and it rolls up.
@@kzinxqolyzukarinkuari1602 watch some of the heavies lose momentum in a sharp turn or something… they’ve gotta throttle WAY up up to get going again.
Sounded way cooler back in the day with the low-bypass engines.
The day we don’t get a “gooooooood morning everybody” is the day aviation will die. Keep it up and keep our precious planes flying healthy
Thank you so much for the kind words Kevin.
I only knew the turnbuckle safety was complete, when I saw the blood 😂😂😂😂 ahhh those damn wires...
🤣🤣🤣
Got to have a look at the cockpit because I was doing an unaccompanied minor thing, and I was talking to the pilot about systems and stuff and I noticed his right landing light was on and I told him and he switched it off and had a good laugh 😂
Good job. And very good attention to detail 👌
@@StigAviation thanks buddy 🙏🏻
As always, I love how much I learn from your videos. I'm Team Brake Ride... I don't know why, but those clips are so relaxing. That ending Cargolux shot... WOW. Absolutely beautiful! It’s an incredible sound
Those security personnel need to get in better shape…..
Trust me, they’re in good shape, but they are carrying close to 50 pounds of gear. They were running at full sprint trying to catch this guy.

hey stig, last week i flew out to amsterdam and when I got there i decided to take a look around the massive Schiphol Airport, lucky for me i spotted an ACT doing a walk-around and I immediatly thought of you, i was amazed to experience a simple walk-around because I knew some of the things that your colleague was doing and thats all on you, thank you for all the knowledge you give me and all the other fellow aviation enthusiasts !

In the beginning, it does look like a mess, but once you’re acclimated and understand, what is what, it all becomes very simple.
Thank you Stig, another cracking video as always, see you on your next adventure...Laters!!

Thank you so much for sharing that with me, it’s always an interesting and unusual experience when we come across the supernatural.
Thought i should share this tip
Back when i worked at the hospital, we had a bottle of peppermint oil in the engineering room and in the operating room charge desk for bad smelling times. Idea was that you put a bit on a hospital mask, throw that on, and bam, just like that you got a portable air freshener. Helps a lot when things are covered in poop.
I’ll keep that in mind
And there’s just something cool about that 😊
I love it too. Almost therapeutic
Unwind after finishing work for the week to another Stig Shift. Perfection.
It’s a pleasure to have you here as always
Love America West - it was our hometown airline here in Phoenix. You can tell when you have a flight crew that is America West. Generally nicer than old school American or US Airways flight crews.
I was part of that family, here in LAX, out of terminal one. We were a small airline, it’s like having a family, we were all brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers uncles and aunts
It was a beautiful time
Awesome video Stig as always!
Thank you so much, darling, I appreciate you being here
@@StigAviation you are very welcome!! Anytime!! ☺️
Thanks.
Definitely not a fun day on a hot start. Thank you for watching.
O h my goodness Stig, this was one of your all time best, the Ghost story put it way over the top. I can say as a Christian believer I loved your spiritual talk. If you have a Bible study it. Acts 4:12. You are awesome!!
