A tip for you, Jesse: You need exactly 2cl of Crocodile Tears. The bottle of Tears has evaporated. You have a 2cl glass and a bucket of water. How do you re-hydrate something once evaporated?
I figure, at least for the Crocodile Tears, is to get the evaporated Tears in the alchemy lab and combine them with the water next to the fire. And as for Dragon sweat, no clue.

So did anyone else notice that the Resistance hand gesture is literally the "Phones 4 U" gesture in reverse? xD ... Does America even have "Phones 4 U"? Also, those Golem faces looked too much like certain english Football players to be coincidence.

Joe Rivet People were saying that throughout the series so far that there are quite a few references to the original game. As to whether you need it for the story. I think this game explains itself well enough that you don't need to and in the case that it doesn't, you can always check a wiki or something. Whether or not the first game is good, that, I do not know.
Deyerli The first game is pretty good. So you might want to get it just for it's own merits. Plus backstory on the characters. Or you could just wiki everything. Up to you.

Pretty sure they only asked for the story not to be spoiled. And since Jesse didn't do much story, mostly exploring, he should have a bunch avaliable for upload.
