Black Widow is finally here and in this video we're gonna be breaking down all the easter eggs, hidden details and things you missed in the highly delayed and long overdue Marvel movie. After her MCU debut 11 years ago in 2010’s Iron Man 2, her solo movie has been a long time coming and there's a lot to unpack from the film. We finally get to meet her fake family, watch her go toe to toe with Taskmaster and see the infamous red room which first popped up inside natashas head during age of Ultron Age Of Ultron.
From here on out it's full spoilers ahead so if you haven't had a chance to check it out then I highly recommend you check out now. Smash the thumbs up button if you love the video 3000 and make sure you subscribe to channel for breakdowns like this each and every day.
With that out the way, thank you for clicking this, now let's get into Black Widow.
Ok so the movie opens in 1995 and we cut to Natasha whistling like she’s Yondu to Yelena. 1995 is an interesting year in the MCU timeline as it's set during the same year that Carol Danvers returned to Earth. We join the quote unquote family as their cover is blown by Shield and they have to go on the run. The are made up of Natasha Romanoff, her sister Yelena Belova, father Alexi Shostakov and Melina Vostokoff.
Yelena Belova was first introduced in Inhumans Volume 2 Issue 5 where ironically he called herself the Black Widow.
Much like the film, we discovered in the 1999 Black Widow mini series that she was at the still active Red Room and was one of it's top assassins like we see in the film.
She was sent to Natasha to ensure that something called the Deathless Frenzy ended up in the Russians hands.
This was a toxin that made people fight with primal rage and the barebones of this story do somewhat appear in this film though things are changed up.
The father of this sleeper spy cell is Alexi Shostakov aka The Red Guardian. Much like the movie counterpart, the Red Guardian was intended to be Russias answer to Captain America. Aleksy Lebdev was the first Red guardian with David Harbour portraying the second Red Guardian, Alexi. Weirdly, Alexi in the comics was married to Natasha...so...maybe she will call him daddy

Amazing Breakdown Video As Always Spoiler Man 👍
Red guardian has his daughter's names tattooed on his arm
How Natasha escaped from Ross is by trading the Red Room data she had copied earlier. At the start of the film, Thunderbolt Ross also says that I thought you called to cut a deal. Maybe it was a foreshadowing.
@@ArchismanBhattacharya don't think it was foreshadowing. She didn't get the photo/vials till after
@@e3vL1 right. Maybe she remembered what he said and thought cutting a deal was possible.
Man I love Scarlett Johansson but Florence Pugh was amazing, for me she stole just about every scene she was in. Her character's sense of humor and timing was on point for me. Honestly before thinking about Natasha being gone was depressing but Yelena in the MCU gives me hope.
I felt the same exact way, David Harbour and Florence Pugh stole the show in this movie 100% I loved them in this movie
I went into BW hoping for something different, I'm not really all that impressed with the movie but I agree with you about Yulana Belova. She looks like she'll do a really decent job as Nats replacement. Sad to say goodbye to Nat in the MCU and if that truly was her last go around that's ashame. I kept hearing reviews of how funny the film was, it had it's moments but far from what I expected too. Red Guardian was a great freaking addition. Here's hoping they work him into other MCU films. Would love to have seen him square off with Steve Rogers. Oh well. To little to late. And don't even get me started on Taskmaster. They fucked the character. The biggest blunder the MCU and Kevin Fiege have made up to this point. I hope enough people bitch about it so they kill this version off and make Tony Masters become Taskmaster. I truly hope that if we do get a Secret Wars two or three movies ending the Saga that we'll get all the dead or retired OG Avengers back. Natasha deserves better. I know Kate Shortland directed this bullshit but did she have any part in writing the script? I wouldn't invite the script writers or Shorthand back for any other MCU projects. One and done for those butchers. Peace
More like that thick frame woo
“You pose… you whip your hair like this and kinda do this… thing with your leg…”
Florence was the easily the best part
At this point, Tony Stark may have created more villains than defeated them
this doesnt even make sense.. hes defeated every one hes created on top of the ones he didnt create, and he snapped thanos and his army away, id argue hes defeated more villains than anyone else in the MCU
@@Youllpayforthat bruh what
@@cesaralonso7429 whats so confusing?
@@Youllpayforthat not mysterio
@@Youllpayforthat Killian had him dead, he didn’t directly deal with Ultron, Mysterio was dealt with by spider man, possibly the villain in this movie. The only ones he created and defeated was the Russian guy in Iron Man 2, and he wasn’t even directly involved in his creation
i hope in the next “mission” alexei will have his own earpiece
Come on man that’s not the plan
Someone give this man an earpiece !!
😂😂😂😂
I hope he gets some more screen time.. he did nothing really bar the opening.
I hope he gets a shield. His character was so disappointing
How to carry on Natasha's legacy through Yelena: Kill Clint. Makes sense.
I think it must be resentment from letting Nat die tho.....
😂😂😂😂
She wants to know what happened. Helena will do what Hawkeye did all those years ago.
Speaking to the person
I imagine they'll do the cliché comic book thing where the hero's fight for a bit before realizing the real enemy is manipulating them. Then they'll team up to take down the villain.
I mean, Yelena doesn't know Clint ... As far as she knows he's just the reason she lost her sister. That's how she'll become Black Widow probably
Loki did not referred to Natasha as Dreykov’s daughter, he was naming the “red in her ledger” which included killing Dreykov’s daughter. He knew this because Clint told him.
But they totally reached to far connecting that line from Avengers to making her Taskmaster. Ruined a great character if you ask me. Sometimes trying to be the smartest mother fucker in the room just doesn't work. Leave well enough alone. I hope they kill off this version of Taskmaster and let Tony Masters rightfully become TM. Marvel shit the bed with this movie and the Taskmaster blunder. Out of what 25 films now? I rank Blackwidow 25.
@@bobtwichew3103 calm down. Marvel has always spun these types of characters and people like you always get butthurt. Guess what, their formula still works. I would hardly rank it last of their films. It was generally entertaining and finally closed off an important character who I still don't think got her just due. Could've been a bit better, but pretty good overall.
@@jhoppz09 I wish the timing of the movie was different. As a comics fan, I loved the twist because usually I’m able to predict the plot of these sorts of things. I thought I saw the entire movie from the numerous “final trailers” but I was pleasantly surprised in theaters. I was only waiting for the setups and Easter eggs. Perfect representation of Black Widow and the display of metaphors to the sex trafficking regime was handled very well.
Yea they reconned that
@@Toasty283 uhm..
Taskmaster in this film does NOT have powers, Says ONE sentence the entire move, Wears a suit which is clearly way to big for her (and is clearly intended for a male but ignore this) and she doesn’t even have free will.
As soon as I saw "Sister Daughter Avenger" on the tombstone, I started crying.
Me too. And to top that, yelena started whistling. :")
I hope we see more of the Red Guardian, especially considering how David Habour's character remained insistent that he faced off with Captain America despite their timelines not aligning. I wish his character and similarly, Isaiah Bradley, shared either a scene or two from their past when they were actively serving for their country. Not sure if we'll ever see that but those two characters have enough intrigue for a more fleshed backstory.
I hope we see more of the Red Guardian, considering well you know, " it still fits "
well maybe they did face off when captain america went back in time to deliver the stones but stayed (just a theory)
@@jaymorel8641 I like this theory, but it would imply that this movie took place in an alternate timeline or that red guardian is from a different timeline.
@@jaymorel8641 this 👌
Or....he fought Isiaih Bradley and to him, he was an american super soldier....he assumed he was Cap America!
Black widow watching “moonraker” is a nod to the start of that movie when bond famously free falls without a parachute, something that Black widow does at the end of the movie

Deadpool is gonna roast Taskmaster so hard in MCU.
Bruh, I really didn't like Taskmaster. The daughter of the villain getting Darth Vadered just had no weight to it with very little setup regarding her. Her entire purpose was getting the mission done and she never did. It really reminds me of the Knights of Ren from the recent Star Wars film, hyped up to be super cool only to get taken down easily. If they kept Tony from the comics as Taskmaster, it likely would've turned out a lot better
Loved Yelena in the movie, hope to see a lot of her in the Hawkeye series.
Yaa ...hope to see her in future
Yh I'm just sad to see scarlet Johansson go, but maybe she come back in a flashback in future MCU film
@@danwarner7816 let her rest
I think everyone can agree the "severe the nerve" was a badass line
Black Widow action scenes are impressive like Captain America The Winter Soldier.
Managed to illicit a couple of audible “oofs” from me, especially in the first Taskmaster/Nat face off. Brutal.
The fight scenes were so on point 🙌🏼 The best scenes I have seen from Natasha and personally Yelena is such a badass
i think they werent very good but i am an actual fighter so.
I find winter soldier a bit better where I find myself only caring for natasha sister and the parents seem stuck in their ways. It's very strange how they never turned up for final fight in endgame
Edited: considering he wanted to be russia captain America
I think Captain America: The Winter Soldier is way better
I am not comic reader, so I wasn't disappointed by Taskmaster much though. 😐 I mean I really thought she had badass action and she too will be seen in future movies

Can't believe Marvel would make the same mistake with Taskmaster as Wolverine: Origins did with Deadpool
Hopefully that gets fixed
... And Ant-Man and the Wasp did with Ghost
@@saifulbahrainmohamadnoor2887 Well, Ghost is kinda forgivable. Because they legit had some improvement in story and her female twist wasn't kept a secret. She also looked intimidating. The OG Ghost was more of a revenge killer (Still a great character) and became Iron Man's villain without personal rivalry. The movie Ghost was more in pain and wanted to live. Both versions did a great job as they were able to give both intimidating and sad feelings. (it's just my opinion, so I can wrong iyo)
But this Taskmaster didn't even gave those things. Like, they could actually make him a robot made by hydra and it could be better than this.
Red Guardian all but confirms Cap who traveled back to Peggy is alive and in the main MCU timeline.
When he arm wrestles that guy, he says he fought Cap 84/85’ and the guy says he was still in the ice then; and Red says are you calling me a liar?
He clearly fought the Cap who went back in time and was here while the other cap was still in the ice.
Hmmm interesting.
Unless this was a nod to Isaiah Bradley. Didn’t he say to Bucky that he’d been sent to fight Russians at one point?

Exactly. But that is the point. Art is interpreted by different cultures differently. The Russians did not understand it. They thought it was beautiful because they did not have that in Russia.
I'm pretty sure it was about how they took him there, and they told the tale, how his midichlorioans were off the scale, and he might fulfil, that prophecy.

I was well on-board for this movie until the 3rd act. The Underwhelming Taskmaster reveal, the bizarre cut from Ross’ convoy approaching to “2 weeks later”. I will say that a smaller, more personal story without world-ending stakes was much appreciated.
That's true but i still appreciated the reveal because it just shows that it's really connected to the plot, but it can be only for me.
I just watched the movie and I think it was really good. Loved the banter between Natasha and Yelena, and the call backs and fourth wall-like awareness to Natashas superhero pose 😂😂
I'm genuinely so shocked how Marvel fucked up Taskmaster in the MCU. All they had to do was make him a talkative mercenary called "Tony Masters" who has photographic memory and was hired by the Red Room to kill Natasha or whatever. But they somehow fucked up all of that... and another Turning Taskmaster into a girl was fucking stupid. Especially how they kept it as a year long mystery.

Fight scenes were pretty sweet, enjoyable movie but I wish they wouldve tied more things and tease more where its going. Was hoping for a clearer Thunderbolts tease. I hope Taskmaster returns, I thought Valentina was going to try and enroll her instead of Yelena. And hunting down Clint? Why?
I personally don't see Nat being in the Thunderbolts as they're a sort of knock-off avengers team without having Avengers in them. I too question why Valentina chose to frame Clint (I guess it's just another reason to put someone against an avenger)
Something to do with the hawkeye tv show
@@liamcantwell1465 I actually think Valentina is recruiting the gang for Ross, maybe why he wants Clint dead, hes considered a fugitive of the law still and trying to tie the ends. I think Yelena is going to realize going after CLint that Clint is a good guy and once she realizes the bond that he and Nat had, she will end up joining the next Avengers team, while Valentina and Ross ends up forming the Thunderbolts
@@psytron939 I'd be surprised if Clint would still be legitimately considered a threat after fighting bravely to save the world from Thanos, & 1/2 the Earth's population returning after 5 years of presumed death. Watched the Premiere last night in a REAL THEATER and it was a great time. Good flick, good music lots of fun.
Yay!! I JUST finished watching the movie and the post credit breakdown 😆😆
I think the Task master was a great reveal, the idea that Black widow is fighting her greatest regret, and Task master mimics her moves is kind of like fighting herself in the past tense. I think its super symbolic and well done.
Not only did the TM reveal undermine Natasha's character arc, it wasted the potential to have unique/new type of antagonist. So many good parts to the film, but this was the most forced character twist in MCU history, and one that only cheapens the story.
Ill start by saying I thought Task Master was a bit shit but I see this as an origin and hopefully, will grow into the bad ass we know. Also, the 'twist' was a bit obvious.
*Spoiler*
I thought Drakov's daughter worked well. Nat was screwed up thinking she killed a kid....and instead finds out she didnt kill her, she just messed her right up and delivered her to Drakov....who made her life a misery as one of his slave-experiments.
I think she found it worse that she was alive, in that condition.
I was expecting Dottie Underwood from Agent Carter like character under the mask. Dottie perfectly match TM's uncanny reputation. So I was disappointed by the reveal however since mcu is ongoing and in BW they made TM a protocol/program like something I have hope that in future we might get to see epic villan TM.
@@Vor567tez They can't keep using us as beta testers for better characters down the line, I love this shit, the MCU has been my home away from broken home for a decade, honestly just hope they can instill the same care they have toward their heroes, into their antagonists, cuz like the god of outcomes says, "No one bad is ever truly bad, and no one good is ever truly good." The movie itself was good, just the TM thing was off.

Natasha wears the arrow necklace in the first half of the movie (she wore it in CA:CW). According to Scarlett, this was a gift by Clint.
Been waiting for this video! Great job again!!
Honestly, the Taskmaster reveal was about twice as good as I thought it was going to be. I really only expected him to be just another grunt with some cybernetic implants in the end. At least it was someone with ⅛ of a real story.
I love the fact that task master isn’t actually beaten as she is way to strong so they have to either out trick her or break her mind control.( even red guardian can’t beat him on his own)
David Harbour as red guardian was brilliant. Loved every scene is was in and great comedic timing! Hope we see him again
The villain really felt flat for me, Taskmaster didn’t have much of a menacing presence throughout the movie, she was reduced to a mindless assassin. It would have been cool if we got something more like the comics: a bounty hunter willing to do anything for money, and it would have been cool if he had menacing voice lines.
@Rachel Asher Taskmaster is Anthony Masters. This is Trashmaster
Taskmaster wasn’t the main villain, never were he or she meant to be, we’ll probably see THE taskmaster later on but she was just apart of a taskmaster program
Taskmaster was underwhelming in my opinion. Hope she gets justice in the future
She did beat a super soldier 🤷♂️
It’s very weird, during the scenes with Natasha back in the same house with her former family, I got a hella Winter Solider vibe from it. Everything felt grounded, real. It didn’t need to be this fantastical world bending movie, but something that hit close to home. Learning acceptance and self accountability. Even though at the end we do learn The Red Room has a pretty world bending plan for their standards, I just cared about the characters, the family. Didn’t care much for the Taskmaster reveal, but it’ll be interesting to see what they do with her and the other Widows. Though we waited forever, I’m not upset with the movie at all.

I never want to see Taskmaster again
@@ur.mom117 I loved him in the comics but the film ruined the character
@@ur.mom117 if they use the actual Tony Masters Task master then I'm down but if they try and make it someone else get rid of them
I watch both you and Ryan Airey and I love the bit that you’re in a feud, it’s hilarious! Thanks for another great one Paul!
Rick Mason was fantastic! I hope we see more of him in future MCU movies.
What did he do that was so great?
What it Red Guardian wasn’t lying about fighting Cap in the 80’s…. That can basically confirm he was still secretly active when he went back in time to marry Peggy.
He didn’t seem like the type to lie about something like that.
The introduction to this video is EXACTLY why I choose to watch your videos above any other UA-cam breakdowns lol I played it like 5 times before starting the video.
Hahah thank you
Saw this movie this morning an you did a great job in the breakdown. I was waiting to see if you would mention the baby pigs in the opening and how they had the older hogs that were controlled.
Did anyone else think the pheromone thing was super dumb
The “sever the nerve” part made up for it a bit though
He was just a super paranoid old man that almost literally had to have everyone do every single thing for him. Of course he's gonna come up with the best ways to keep himself alive considering he found a way to mind control people. Also, doing it through pheromones keeps anyone that doesnt know about previously from being able to detect it and you dont have to implant it somehow. If they have a sense of smell, they cant hurt him.
I wished Tony Masters would've been Taskmaster. No problem with gender though
Maybe she'll will change her name to Antonia Masters, now that she has freedom
yeah I've seen a lot of people saying we felt it was a let down because of the gender swap when that's not the case at all, she didn't really have a character
Yeah same
@@heavyspoilers I'm optimistic that Feige and Marvel try to listen to the fans long-term. *Maybe* we might see a slight retcon as well as a thick and chunky refleshing of the character given how the MCU Taskmaster is received by the fans. But that's just me being really optimistic. It just seems like a disservice to Taskmaster when her character would have been such an obvious shoe-in for a future Thunderbolts project
I am still hoping for Kevin Feige and the MCU to introduce Tony Masters. Taskmaster in this Black Widow movie was just a cosplay.
This video's comic animation was good. I really liked it. Good job.
I found a mistake in Black Widow-
if natasha and her mother swapped faces in the house it means the person flying the plane was natasha but she doesn't know the location of RED ROOM. How did she fly them there?
I really enjoyed this movie and I liked the Taskmaster reveal, even though I saw it coming. It does suck the character didn't talk, but that was the point of her in this movie, she was being manipulated and controlled. It's possible the Taskmaster mantel will be taken by someone else, but who knows.
People need to chill and realize that the MCU isn't going to be a 1:1 to the comics by now.
Taskmaster did talk in the end when BW freed her from control
@@mathenis right, but I meant throughout the movie, not just at the end.
yow i love how the "dom family" meme was incorporated in the vid.
And your user name too 😅
Smashed the like *3000!* 👍🏻
11:40 "Rick Mason the agent, and Mason was an agent", laughed so loud at this that my dog now thinks I'm a weirdo
I saw this yesterday. Kind of disappointed with what they did with Taskmaster. He is too much of a badass to be reduced so much. And your "GDAMN" makes me cackle.
I love taskmaster, but hate that she was reduced to a brainless minion. It seems like a waste.
I immediately said quit gender swapping
@@louiedoee why? Like honestly who cares? 😂😂
@@fuzzykoala6168 I mean if you know taskmaster as a Marvel character you'd say wow they really just made taskmaster a bitch.
I love that everytime you say family Vin Diesel's ugly mug pops up! Well Done Sir! Always brings a smile.
Awesome! Thanks
So many people fell down on the back in this movie, we get it Kevin she's eventually gonna die like that
Lmao chill
I can see why it was delayed but I cant let her go much like clint in endgame
I expected way more. I rank it as the MCUs worst effort so far. Two thumbs down.
@@bobtwichew3103 I assumed this was an origin story but I had high expectations, still a good movie, not white noise worth though in my opinion 😂
I'm so glad I'm not the only one that hates that cover of Smell's Like Teen Spirit!
Ye I love it mate
It was total garbage
Just finished it. It's really not as bad as some reviewers acted like it was, I enjoyed it. The only two things that really bothered me were red guardians lack of action and what they did to taskmaster.
same. Everything was good and the characters are likeable. They could've done a better taskmaster imo
Those Dom cutaways at the mention of family gets me every time
I like your Ursa theory, but I'm certain he doesn't turn into a bear. The actor 'The Dutch Giant' is in Shang-Chi as Razor first. So it seems to me that he gets out of prison and gets his broken hand replaced by a nice glowing sword
wait what thats the same actor?
@@pandanganmatiyn1487 I thought it was, but looking further into it, it seems like it's not. They look very similar, tho
Every time there's a cover of a popular song, people automatically shit on it. It's a psychological mindfuck that is difficult to navigate. There have been many songs that were also covers but they're more popular and people like it because of this. There was nothing wrong with the cover---especially taken objectively and through the ears of anyone who hadn't heard the "original".
I'm confused about why you put original in quotes, that makes no sense. More importantly, this isn't just a cover of a popular song, it is a cover of one of the most important songs written in recent times. It is the anthem of the 90's for many and held closely in the hearts of even more.
Also, I'm not sure any music can be "taken objectively," especially a cover song. Music is personal and will effect everyone differently.
Your jokes make my whole day 💀 they’re so subtle
Amazing every second of loved it!!!! Love marvel and these ladies
Thought oxsona was one of the eternals for some reason first glance
