The church is beautiful to me. The feeling these old churches have let you feel the struggles these people when through but still had time to to humble themselves and than God for what they do have.
The random addition of Classic FM is hilarious!! I really enjoy listening to you're friendly banter and joking - it's fun. 11 hours of editing? That's awful! The music selections are absolutely gorgeous, one of the best things about your videos. I love the new ones, but I did not tire of the old songs either.
Thank you for highlighting the sad history of the clearances. My family suffered through it, emigrated to Ireland, then on to so-called American Colony of Pennsylvania by 1770's // So happy to hear about getting the harp music!
Genghis McKhan. LOL. I'm not a religious person but it is sad that so many lovely churches across the UK are being abandoned. Some manage to find secular purposes but many are languishing in ruin. It's heart breaking because the UK landscape has been shaped by church spires. They were the hubs of communities.
Thank you so much. I love that little church - my folks and I used it every summer Sunday evening back in the early 70's, with a lovely lady playing a very wheezy harmonium! My hubby and I revisited it and signed the visitors' book a few years ago. So many memories.
I am always so pleased to see a new episode. Your channel has everything. House renovations, beautiful scenery, animals - wild and domestic, cats, classic British comedy, cookery ... and Classic FM!!
I am really cracking up every time the mic picks up the Radiostation 😂😂…always great to stroll around with you two to explore the historic sites and learn some more about Scotland…Thank you…❤❤
I loved the history lesson tonight it was amazing and Katie I know Scott probably tells you all the time, but you looked rather stunning today! I am sure he knows how lucky he is to have a truly beautiful woman in his life! Who’s also very talented at DIY!
there is NOTHING i don't like about your channel. your wit, work, weather and willingness to share your experiences and talents with the public is wonderful. pleasetake care of yourselves first....so much of what ou do has the potentialfor danger without having a camera incorporated. i do love the harp...thank you for introducing us to another excellent artist.May your every pursuit be blessed by God above.
Thanks for sharing this sad history. Some Scots went , presumably in the clearances, from Lake Lannoch tothe United States and then to Canada as Empire Loyalists and settled on the Gaspe coast of Quebec, and they had brothers still in Scotland join them. The descendants worked the land, fishing, farming, and building. Music was a comfort throughout the generations and was there through the grueling hunger of the great depression. Some descendants took up the arns of their adopted country, and the music of fiddle and bow was heard in Hong Kong late in 1941, until the not merry Christmas Day when that colony surrendered. Some still lay there forever on watch at Sai Wan cemetery. Others endured four years of slave labor in mines and shipyards, working 18 hours on a meager 300 calories a day, but the resilience in their blood kept them going until they woke up one morning in 1945 to find the prison guards fled, and hampers of real food falling on parachutes with the message that the war was over and liberation was at hand. Orher descendants such as myself endure, and now I walk the lands and paddle the water here in Cape Breton, a bastion of Gaelic culture here in Canada. But we remember our roots always, and though now our blood is mingled with that of others who sought peace and hope , we still feel a resonance deep within our souls watching your videos. What you do means so very much more than you can realize. Thank you. PS. Love the Monty Python and LOTR references.
Enjoy the bits of history very much. And I love all the small discoveries. The church is just so beautiful - would love to go and sit in the church to have my quiet time with Jesus or to read my Bible.
A note about the same music. To me, hearing the intro, the music is like a love one arriving home after a good day. New music will be nice. Not every smile is the same.
Love the banter in the cave . Think island life has sent you a bit bonkers, second thoughts I think you were daft before you got there ( in a good way of course) keep up with the lovely shots of the island in all weathers , it’s so calming in a mad , bad world 😊
Thanks for the history, the kiln, and the lovely church that would never have seen otherwise. The cave was a bit of a mystery and intriguing. Enjoyed the visit.😊
Enjoyed the story telling , & loved the music & scenery . What a very sad & hard life the people had , hard to imagine life as tough as that now . We have such an easy lifestyle now . Compared to then 🤔. Look forward to seeing your next video .
Did you notice on the wall on the cave when Katie was trying taste the water, someone had scratched their initials into the rock ? ( should have watched to the end ) ;)
Really love sharing your journey. It’s brilliant that you have been given the thumbs up to use another persons recordings, love what you have been using up to now and so glad the person has been seeing more interest. Only one slight thing, sorry, it’s just the music seemed a bit louder than before. It was more noticeable when Katie was telling us all about the clearances etc, we love the information and history and always find it interesting and Katie’s voice so calming. Xx
G'day Katie and Scott. Looks like that cave could well be man-made because there is not sufficient remnant of debris that must have originally fallen from the roof on the floor. Any debris was probably therefore removed as it was excavated and judging by fracturing evident in the surrounding stone the cave might have even been partially excavated by blasting possibly with black powder. Another method used to quarry stone and mine minerals prior to black powder being readily available could also result in the sort of fracturing visible. The earlier and far older method of excavating solid rock was to build large hot fires against stone then quench the stone with cold water to fracture it. Black Powder was not employed for peaceful purposes such as mining and road building until the late 17th century so in the absence of contrary information the cave could be that old or older. It would be interesting to know if there are any local legends regarding the origin for the cave and what they might be. Among other possibilities regarding potential uses for the cave I can easily imagine Tinkers using it as a site for camps. If that were so and it is difficult to imagine it was not the case, then suspicions regarding origins for the chicken bones are not hard to come by.
Oh no!!! The poor man...never does anything? So? Who chopped the wood? Who dug the trench around the house? And by the way...a star from a amazing TV show..should NOT work so hard....so now "we" are leaving comments about how much you should work on your own island? Soo totally opinionated....and uncalled for...enjoy your day u 2!! be warm out there
Rough ground, unstable heavy load for your barrow with a single wheel. Mine has two in a similar rocky land. Suggest, if you can find another wheel, pair them both up on either side of your barrow wheel frame.
Yes get a old tire and set the wood you're chopping inside You won't have to keep bending over and picking up all the pieces that fly out any longer most of them will stay inside the rubber tire. So much easier but less exercise for bending if you want the bending.
Thank you for including the Clearance information. My Guinne clan great grandmother and her mum were "cleared" from Clyth, on the brea, to the isle of Bute. Before migrating to Australia.
If you nail an old tire to the chopping block, then place the wood inside, it's easier to chop more at the same time and prevents the wood from falling off.
hello guys have a look at afon tirs video of what he has done with a ruined cottage ,and i mean ruined , its just the building floor space , he has made it into something special for the summer ,something for you to consider with the ruins around you
Oh Katie!! "Genghis McKhan" Too funny!! You made me spit my tea out!! Great job, keep up the great work. Love seeing your adventures. Hello from the Northwest Coast of BC.
Hello Katie and Scott Thank You for another interesting episode on your channel. I especially liked the exploration of the cave. Looking forward to the next episode.
I love all the songs you use and I think it is lovely that the two artists will allow you to use their recordings and I hope they get more traffic to their music. I find it so hilarious that classic FM is being picked up and hearing Alexander Armstrong in the background and their signature tune ha ha. That was a very sad history of the clearances it was terrible and many had suffered and had been scattered all over the world, like where I was born Rhodesia. I love your pancakes does not matter about the shape it is the taste that matters and Scott likes them so they in my opinion have passed Katie, yum yum. Wow eleven hours to edit the film I am so sorry that it took all that time but know I appreciate the time and all the hard work you both put into the videos as I am sure your Patreons and us your viewers here on you tube do, if that is any consolation. Have a lovely day and till the next time.
Another immensely enjoyable vlog and looking forward to hearing the new music catalogue. Your choice of music fits the atmosphere perfectly and has become my chill out evening viewing after the stresses of our manic lives. Keep up the good work (and the Monty Python quotes 😅). Love it!
Hi again, good 2 c u as always ; I hesitate to say I am the big kid(d), as the eldest of 4 brothers. Wish I was there, rather than Auckland NZ. Good luck with the music, tho I enjoy the present selection .. Very place identifying.
Such a lovely couple. You work hard but exude such peace. Really enjoying watching all your videos. The music is awesome! Thank you for sharing your life on that lovely island.
Great video we appreciate all the hard work, beautiful scenery, history and fun you gives us all, thanks for your editing Scott. Do you have your PO box sorted yet? I am sure house warming gifts would be sent, I know I have some to give.
Unfortunately, the money put aside for the PO Box (an astronomical £396.00 per year), had to be spent on a new fridge freezer. We will eventually sort this out, but at the ridiculous cost Royal Mail are now charging for this service it may be some time in the future.
@@TheScottishIsle Thank you for your reply. Oh, wow that's a lot of money just to get your post. 😲. A fridge freezer is more important so you can cut down in trips to the shops.
