    USPS Priority Mail materials are to be used as the exterior packaging that you ship your items in, NOT as packing materials. And only one PM envelope, mailer or box is meant to be used per package shipped. They are providing PM materials free of charge to encourage customers to use PM services, not so you don't have to spend money on packing material. You are in direct violation of USPS rules regarding the legal use of PM materials. It is absolutely criminal how many PM mailers you fraudulently used to ship one comic book. This will cause USPS to eventually stop providing free PM materials for their honest customers. You are not only intentionally committing fraud yourself but are advising other people to do so as well. If you're going to commit a crime it's a great idea to film it.👍👍

    My rule of thumb is ship how you’d want to receive. Depending on the price I paid for shipping and the book itself, I’d cringe receiving a book this way. I’ve received so many damaged books that was shipped exactly this way.
    I’ve always thought it was cheaper to refund a small percentage of books that get damaged from cutting corners, than to send out secure in a Gemini.
    If you have to ship this way, at the very least make sure that the corrugated lines are vertical and not horizontal.

    • @matthewgmoran
      @matthewgmoran 2 роки тому +1

      Wholeheartedly agree here. I’m nervous when folks ship this way. You’re corrugation is oriented the same way, therefore the package is prone to bends in one direction. Nothing replaces a Gemini.

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  2 роки тому

      Are you seriously saying that what I did in this video is cutting corners? It's so funny how folks think that Gemini mailers are so superior, when they themselves are just carboard. I spent 8 hours packaging 26 packages. I don't think that's cutting corners. There is more carboard thickness on these than a gemini mailer provides. There is also multiple layers of complete covered protection, where gemini mailers actually expose the inside of the package, technically making them more vulnerable.
      If you received damaged books, then I can guarantee you that they aren't doing what I'm doing. There are many flaws to a book just sitting between two pieces of carboard, but my process and level of protection doesn't stop there.
      I'm usually good at being able to agree to disagree, but I have to stand firm here and say that your commentary does not line up with what I'm doing. I have never had one complaint from any of my shipped items. I have never had one item be reported damaged. I have a 5.0 perfect rating on WhatNot and eBay. I think that alone speaks for itself.

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  2 роки тому +2

      Please see my response to David. the corrugation doesn't matter because the thickness of the total package is so thick, that you would have to really sit and try to bend it with might in order to do some damage. My packages are thicker and more durable than a gemini mailer. That isn't my opinion, it's a fact. If I put two books in a gemini mailer, and 2 books in a package like this, and tried to bend them or damage them, the gemini would bend quicker. If I threw them both at a wall attempting to blunt the corners of the package, the gemini mailer would take more damage.
      Maybe I'll find some 50 cent comics and make a video doing this to prove that you guys (respectfully) are incorrect about my method. Again, no complaints from customers, no damages, 5.0 star rating on Whatnot, perfect feedback on eBay.

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  2 роки тому +3

      @@matthewgmoran Half of my orders were packaged in Gemini Mailers. And I just don't throw the books in the mailers either. I give them extra protection as well. So they all take about the same time. Everything that I used to package the books in the video was free. So when you're shipping out hundreds of packages, that $1 adds up. I'm saving myself hundreds of dollars. But at the end of the day, the cost doesn't matter. It's about the protection, and while Gemini mailers are great, again, it's a fallacy to believe they are so superior than other shipping methods.

    In the uk its a very different landscape. Those 'free' boxes your cutting up work out at about $4 the bags your mailing in another $2 and I believe we pay more on actual postage as well. If you're buying a low value book on ebay with fees its difficult to give a book away for less than $5. Then the seller actually wants to make something as well, I've lost count how many times a book has turned up in a jiffy bag without so much as a comic board in there. Its pretty weird with what you call $ books. Everything needs importing in the 1st place so its rare to find anything at a local sale. To add to the problems the few comic shops that are left don't even seem (on the whole) to do back issues in bricks and motor establishments, preferring instead to fill the place with Star wars merch and graphic novels.
    I get most of my new stuff from Forbidden planet mail order, luckily I can re purpose the twist mailers they come in.

If everyone used the Priority Mailers for packing materials how long do you think they would A) remain free or B) not jack up pricing on shipping methods. Bad enough they increased shipping rates this year. As a one off case maybe it’s okay…but as seller myself I don’t agree with it. Just use a Gemini type mailer and write it off on your taxes.

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  2 роки тому

      @@adamnicholson4793 Thank you for clarifying. I can confidently state that USPS's mailers will be free for the foreseeable future and probably for lifetimes to come. I can also say with confidence that if any more cost increases happen, it isn't going to be from the amount of free priority packaging people are using, but from simple inflation. How many packages do you think go out each day in the US using the free packages? I might assume that it could reach 7 figures. Each year? Maybe 9 figures. Doubling up on envelopes isn't going to change anything, in my humble opinion.
      But this isn't about "cutting corners" to save money. It's simply a way that adds protection, and I am going to make a video to prove this. When I do use Gemini mailers, often times I still put the books inside the Tyvek bags because it protects them from moisture, and Gemini's leave the books exposed at the package's corners.

    So, you didnt say the weight. Also, if its over 1 pound depending on where it went you could have just mailed from the legal envelope at flat rate. The final bag is not flat rate.

      Hi Dave. The final Tyvek bag used is never flat rate and will always be priced by weight. This video wasn't to highlight cost of shipping, but rather techniques that are meant to protect the comic books that you are shipping out.

    No wonder USPS is losing money!!!! You should be ashamed for using so much of their packaging. Crook!

    That’s a lot of packing. I feel that is a lot of shipping cost

      Hi Barry. Not sure what you mean. Are you thinking that the specific way I am packaging them would be more expensive?

    Why don't you just slide a Gemini mailer into the Legal Flat Rate envelope and call it a day? Then all of your shipping costs would be $9 or whatever the fee is.

      A few reasons. One, Gemini mailers can be pretty pricey when you add it all up. The materials I used are free. Secondly, For books under 14 oz (if I can remember off the top of my head), using the priority envelop that I use is actually cheaper than the standard flat rate envelope and the legal one.
