Gitlis's playing is exciting simply because he plays courageously. This is a lesson to all violinists. It's important to play in tune and in time, but you won't distinguish yourself as an artist if you don't take risks! And this is why Heifetz enjoyed hearing Gitlis play.
Fortunately real violinist don’t follow your suggestion. Gitlis’ bowing is a disgrace, his intonation is certainly not what it should be and as far as interpretation is concerned, he must have never heard of it. He just rushes through the concert hoping that the speed will hide the mistakes he makes. Taking risks is not necessarily a bad thing but one must have the capacity to do so. Something Gitlis decidedly has not. But he excels in bad taste.
The orchestra starts out clean and silky through the beginning until Ivry plays; from there everything goes batshit crazy. Congrats to the conductor and orchestra for keeping with Ivry, its one of the best interpretations out there, and the only interpretation comparable to Heifetz.
Oh my! Close to tears here... Playing for life! It's like if he knew we all could see and hear this many years after it was recorded. But - as the great musician he was - propably did it every time I suppose... Imagine!
one of the greatest on earth i love his stil. still i find him great. sometimes intonation higher then the orchestra. for me makes me listening few times. but fabulous technique

Another reason to use Guarnerius, Better balance. Listen to the thin, bright sound the Strad makes(especially the low notes.) Paradoxically both Zino and Yeheudi are Stradavarius players and I think theirs' are the two best versions. Believe it or not.. They are the only two exceptions.( Brownaslaw Gimpel's version is also extremely expressively well played.) Fingers on a chalk, well played, but fingers on a chalkboard the Stradavarius. just the same. My favorite version is Nadia Solerno Sonnenberg's.
WHY DON'T TODAY'S VIOLINISTS PLAY LIKE THIS??? HEIFETZ WOULD HAVE LOVED GITLIS' DARING APPROACH TO THIS VERY DIFFICULT CONCERTO. THEN AGAIN, HEIFETZ HIMSELF WAS A RISK-TAKER. Agree with SailZstarZ that the conductor and orchestra are awesome in keeping up with the crazy playing of Gitlis. Therefore I first mentioned the conducter who did a hell of a good job. Uploaded the same concert on April 14th 2009, hardly any views because the name Gitlis only came last and with reason because, this is by far the most horrible Tschaikovsky I've ever heard in my life. An I did hear a few being a professional musician.
This is not just a different interpretation, it sounds like a whole new piece. His tempo goes crazy, and he uses reckless technique. He always fades out at the end of his bow strokes, and that simply does not work here, it is very romantic and legato. I wonder if he even counts? It is very easy to listen to someone play a piece and copy them, and the strange tempos and rhythms always show up very clearly in what he plays, it's freakish. If I played in that orchestra with him as the soloist I would never want to play with him again.
@@alexanderhan2819 Ms.Limberg is actually an amazing player. I was at her concerts many times, and in 2017 she made her Berlin debut with this very concerto!!

Gitlis is truly passionate when playing this music.
Perhaps the finest Tchaikovsky around.
The orchestra is awesome to stay with his articulation and speed. And of course, Gitlis is five stars.
