I've been practicing chord scales based on your video for a while now, but never thought to add the cross picking into my practice. I especially love the Jessie McReynolds cross picking tip. Lots to get working on. Another really great lesson, Wayne. Thank you so much.

I spent more than 3 decades teaching (not music!) at the postsecondary level. I’m sure I NEVER achieved the success at inspiring, challenging, and instructing students that you achieve in your videos, Wayne. The world is a better place for you being in it. Thank you.

what the heck is b half diminished? lol i googled it and it said notes B - D - F - A but @7:03 it looks like you're obviously on the 2 finger chords from a few minutes earlier i.e. 7th fret E string (B) and 5th fret A string (D) pinky and ring finger respectfully...ok i got that, but what's going on with the 3rd and 4th string? it looks as if you're on the 3rd fret of D string (F) with pointer finger and middle finger on B again? 4th fret G string? so that's B - D - F - B no A? sorry for ignorance. i definitely need to brush up on my music theory. thanks in advance and i love your channel!

B half diminished is the seventh chord of the C chord scale. You'll find a chord scale video here on the channel. I made it in the first few weeks of creating content so it's kinda buried at this point. Check it out and good luck....

Question, I hope it’s not dumb, 😅. When you are talking about the chord scale, what make the d/e minor and the b half diminished? I know it’s correct based on the sound, but what’s the theory behind it.

The D and E chords both have minor 3rds and the B chord has a minor 3rd plus a flat 5 note.

I play the banjo, but want to expand my knowledge of bluegrass instruments so I bought a mandolin. The hardest thing for me so far, I just got my mandolin two days ago, is getting used to is the strum/chop and not using fingerpicks for rolls. Can you recommend any exercises for this?

I recommend playing along with recordings that you really love. Chop along with some Bluegrass Album Band records and study Doyle Lawson's chop, swells and dynamic range. He always does the right thing.....
