How to make TARKA DALL (Lentils with Garlic) (Vegan Friendly)

- Dall (Lentils) are a staple main or side dish in every Indian household. It’s delicious and nutritious, low in calories, rich in iron and an excellent source of protein. This is my recipe, it’s super simple to make and with the addition of the “Tarka” (fried onions and garlic) just adds to that delicious flavour. Ingredients:
For the Dall:
1 kg Red Lentils (Masoor Dall)
2 table spoons oil
1/2 small onion
Salt to taste
1 tbsp garlic and ginger paste
1 tsp Turmeric
Boiling water
For the Tarka:
2 cloves garlic (finely chopped)
1/2 small onion thinly sliced
6 small birds eye chillies

How many servings is this for? 1kg of dall sounds like a lot.
Is it just me or does it look like there's some yellow split peas among the lentils?
