It’s so cool that you have the opportunity to put all the different bits and pieces from experimenting over the years into action on this new property. Livin’ the dream!
Hi pete, im from germany and I found a youtube channel of an austrian company, that makes compost and terra preta. They make very nice videos about making dead soil alive, with scientific analysis etc. In the end the most important thing you can do is cover your soil at all time and don t disturb it once its setup. They even have a vegetable garden that they didn t till or fertilise in 10 years, with insane results... nature has its ways I am excited to see your farm develop
Sometimes the tortoises will use multiple holes or go back and forth between them at different times. So that tortoise could just be in a nearby hole for now before he comes back to that one
you could secure a source of food waste (schools, restaraunts, grocery stores) to mix in with your wind rows. Also dusting the wind rows with finished compost could help inoculate them with more microbes, speed up decomposition. Fantastic work!
My water over off shady hills is the best well water I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately my well water down here in manatee is some of the worst I’ve ever seen:( keep up the good work and keep preaching the gospel homie!!!
I just saw on the news that there is a massive amount of seaweed headed for Florida. Is that something that you can source to make free compost (mixed with or under woodchips)? Maybe even get the state to deliver it for free as part of a beach cleanup?
Yes, it’s potentially a very useful waste product. Jim uses it as a top layer but either should be fine. I’ve even seen people making bricks out of seaweed now.
Hi, Pete, your vids are very informative and it seems that Floridians are more permaculture orientated than farmers in my country. I am based in the Netherlands, have family in Pasco county Fl. I consider to move to Florida within a couple of years to start my own commercial aquaponic and permaculture venture/adventure. I really don't know anything about law, (employee) irs/tax and how to find investors for the startup. Is there a possibillity to contact you by email for some/maybe a ton of questions?

Very impressive, it looks wonderful!!!
Cool video as always. Please keep the tortoise as a guest. That is the coolest part of the property left to nature.

That’s actually one of our goals. We are looking into a few local restaurants right now.

You might want to wear canister half mask respirator dealing with the chicken litter.

Did you get a deep well?
Had one on the property, we just added a pump. We plan to put in another well with a larger casing and 5hp pump down the road.
🤩🤩🤩
Wipe some Vicks vapor rub under your nose
I used to do that as a former x ray tech when x rating feet! Lol! Great suggestion.....
