As a Canadian, it is impossible to explain what this band means to a generation of us. They told our stories and history through song. Huge cultural significance. Try "Three Pistols" next.
And here comes the Canadian contingent getting behind their band. You’ll probably get an automatic 20,000,000 hits from Canada by playing anything by this band. Check out their catalogue, they had a lively career until their lead singer, Gord Downie, passed away from brain cancer. They did a final tour with him that ended with a concert broadcast live across Canada shortly before he died. It was watched by a large portion of the Canadian population.
The Hip are Canada’s band. Gord Downie, the lead singer, died in 2017 at age 53 of glioblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer. The Tragically Hip’s last concert was in their home town of Kingston, Ontario and was shown live on Canada’s national broadcaster. It was viewed by approximately 1/3 of Canada’s population (me included). I highly recommend that you find it, it is available to stream. It’s heartbreaking and obvious that Gord was very sick at the time, but he insisted against his doctors orders to do one last tour.
Canada's house band! 🇨🇦 Love the Hip! ❤❤ This is a banger! Blow at High Dough Courage 100th Meridian Grace Too Little Bones 38 years old to name a few Cheers
They have a lot of good songs, really worth taking some time and listening to these guys. Being born in the Buffalo area I've been very fortunate to be able to listen to many great Canadian bands living so close to the border.
Knew these fine men when they started out. Saw them many times with less than 50 people around Kingston, Ontario in the mid 80's. I left Kingston to work in NY before they released any records, but they were performing their own songs already. Saw them a few times in NYC after they hit the big time. Always good to catch up. Saw the first Toronto show on their farewell tour and watched the last one from Kingston around a campfire at our cottage in Muskoka. We danced, we sang along and we cried. RIP Gord.
This is my hometown band, went to my High School and university about 10-15yrs before me. Saw them more than anyone, and cried with everyone the last show 10 Million + people watched (1/3 of Canada). This song makes me feel the nostalgia within 2 notes. I’ve gone hoarse singing this in bars, cottages, concerts, hockey arenas, all over. Great band iconic band, the best. Canadian music was never as cool.
Gord Downie RIP. The Hip played their last concert in August 2016. He was diagnosed with cancer prior to this. The last show was broadcast in venues all across Canada to 11.7 million people. He, sadly, passed about a year later.
Canadian national treasure 🇨🇦 Long time running, twist my arm, little bones, ahead by a century to name a few. RIP Gord we will always love you 🙏 Great reaction guys and Peace out ☮️ ✌️ 🙏
As a Canadian, I can tell another Canadian how much I miss Gord and they'll understand 100% and probably give me a hug because they feel it too. The loss of him hurts even now. I watched the last show The Hip did with tears in my eyes, knowing it would be the last time. He was unique and wonderful and kind and a beautiful human. Watch him live. That's where you see the love he had for us (the fans) and we had that love for him too.
Their final concert tour ever was broadcast on simulcast TV and radio coast to coast across Canada. The entire country (schools, business, government offices etc.) pretty much shut down to celebrate, party and grieve their last rock show.
Another of our Canadian jewels, The Tragically Hip. Guys I hate saying this over and over but, stop watching videos on the first listen. JUST LISTEN. The first time I heard this song in 1989 was on the radio. Yes, radio. All you can do IS LISTEN.
A specific live version that I would recommend is "New Orleans Is Sinking (Live at The Roxy)" with is also known as "Killer Whale Tank". You should be able to find it with either title. It’s definitely worth a listen, to get an idea of how creative the band is live. More song suggestions: "Blow at High Dough", "Locked in the truck of a car", "Scared", "Nautical Disaster".
Saw these guys in a niteclub in my hometown when this song came out. They put tables on the dance floor and we got the best one. Gord was literally less than 10 feet from us. It was amazing. I don’t think Gord opened his eyes even once.😂 RIP Gord.🙏✌️❤️
This was filmed at a ballet aka strip club in Kingston called the Manor Gord and the boys would show up once or twice a month and play a set. Seen them many times there.
Canadian rock royalty....highly respected up here.....I mean HIGHLY respected up here !!! My favorite has always been LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO HAPPEN....the guitar riff is a NASTY GROOVE.
Yeah, the Hip were killer, great tune, another awesome song of theirs is Grace Too, an amazing banger that was beyond belief live when I saw them open for Page and Plant in the 90s. More Tragically Hip! Enjoy. 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶🔥
No glitz. No hairgel. No slick production. No bright lights. The Hip were Canada's band. Straight ahead rock and roll from a tight band set to the poetic lyrics of lead singer Gord Downie.
Gord was the fucking best! 🤘🤘🤘 Rocked out with them many times early on playing in the bars....and also at Gords last good bye when the country showed him and he us, how much love was shared among us...✌️💎🌹🌻🫶✌️
Thanks for this!! Quintessential Canuckistan. My first, best memory of the Hip has to be 'Little Bones'; other bests for me include 'Poets' and 'Fifty Mission Cap'. Rest In Peace and Power, Gord Downie.😢💔✍️🏼🎙 🖖🏼😁🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🦫🐻❄️
Gentlemen, you have struck Canadian Gold once again !!! Love it when you guys get around to the The Hip!! ... Album is " Up to Here" came out in either 88' or 89' and total fire from start to finish... it is their second album, and for me personally..."probably" my fave... this month anyways lol... Pure Canadiana with these fellas!! If you were to get more into The Hip, a good album to look at would be "Yer Favorites" a hits compilation up to around 2006 or 07 I'd say.... or individual albums like "Up To Here", Road Apples, Fully Completely, Day For Night, all powerhouse albums.... Always love what you do fellas keep up the great work!!
The thing about the HIP is it's a bar band, Think about being in a bar having a few pops, relaxing, this is the band that any song from them would be perfect.
Finally adding some videos! Good work. Keep em coming - would suggest NEW ORDER "Crystal" - iconic band who were pioneers in their genre and biggest selling club hit of all time coming from the UK.
Never watched your channel before. First thing I noticed was Bob in the background. That's all I need to see. I like Bob. If you like Bob then I'm probably going to like you. If you don't know Bob, you need to listen to Bob... after you listen to some kick ass Tragically Hip...
TO ME THEY WERE CANADAS VERSION OF, JIM MORRISON N THE DOORS. AS YOU CAN SEE BY HIS STAGE ANTICS. HE WOULD BE LYING ON THE FLOOR OF THE STAGE SINGING, HEAD BUTTING THE MICROPHONE. A REAL ADRENALIN CREATOR. HE LEFT IT ALL ON THE STAGE…. ALWAYS. MORE PLEASE. ROCK ON 👊🖖
As a Canadian, it is impossible to explain what this band means to a generation of us. They told our stories and history through song. Huge cultural significance. Try "Three Pistols" next.
I can't think of another example of a whole country's relationship to 1 band like we have with the hip.
A stacked catalogue
three pistols is a track and a half.
The Hip! Another musical contribution from our neighbor to the north. Good roadtrip song with the guitars, bass, and drums doing the driving

Canadian rock royalty. “Blow at High Dough” , “Little Bones” , “Hundredth Meridian” , “Courage” ... just to name a few of their many great songs.
And live performances are also highly recommended. Gord live was an experience.
Long time running
Never heard it before. That’s a badass groove!
They have a lot of good songs, really worth taking some time and listening to these guys. Being born in the Buffalo area I've been very fortunate to be able to listen to many great Canadian bands living so close to the border.
Hard to believe this was done in 1989.
The Hip are rock royalty up here in Canada, they have a deep rabbit hole and you can pick any song...ANY... and they are all great.
Absolute royalty. And yeah, the rabbit hole is deep here.
Knew these fine men when they started out. Saw them many times with less than 50 people around Kingston, Ontario in the mid 80's. Hip Rock lives on in our hearts and in the air!

RIP Gord. One of the best bands to ever come out of Canada.
Canada's band. RIP Gordie, always missed
Great song writer with the best name ever for a band. ✨️🎶🍁🎶✨️
Great band from Canada!! Appreciate the excellent reaction, fellas!!
Heroin addiction in one tune. "My baby he don't know me when I'm thinking of those years."
This is my hometown band, went to my High School and university about 10-15yrs before me. Saw them more than anyone, and cried with everyone the last show 10 Million + people watched (1/3 of Canada). Used to see them at the Manor before they became a household name. Lived on Kingscourt then . Cheers
@ I remember when they tore it down…shame.
Gord Downie RIP. The Hip played their last concert in August 2016. He was diagnosed with cancer prior to this. The last show was broadcast in venues all across Canada to 11.7 million people. He, sadly, passed about a year later.
Tragically hip is an understatement!
Great reaction and a good choice, thank you. Love from Canada.

Love the Hip! Try “Three Pistols”, “Nautical Disaster” and “Poets” to name a few! 🖖🏼
All good!
Canadian royalty.
Seen them live many times, one of the greatest Canadian bands ever, so tragic about Gord. They should be known more.
I just discovered these guys a couple years ago. Love the song. I'm sinking with the City.
Seriously, one of the best songs ever written
Highway girl live kickass tune.
Been following these guys since they were the house band in a bar Kingston Ontario. Drive from O-Town on down, rock out and drive home.
My hometown band. Kingston Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Another one I missed. 💜💜💜

Yaaaaay , the Hip
Thanks fellas
Real musicians from the great white north 🇨🇦
Their final concert tour ever was broadcast on simulcast TV and radio coast to coast across Canada. The entire country (schools, business, government offices etc.) pretty much shut down to celebrate, party and grieve their last rock show.
Seen ‘em 17 times. Every show was awesome and no one put on show like Gord. RIP
Soundtrack of high school for me I love this band!
Another of our Canadian jewels, The Tragically Hip. Guys I hate saying this over and over but, stop watching videos on the first listen. JUST LISTEN. The first time I heard this song in 1989 was on the radio. Yes, radio. All you can do IS LISTEN.
100% agree I find the videos distract from the listening experience

I love people who give the Hip a listen! You might like Nautical Disaster, or my personal favourite, Boots and Hearts
Saw these guys in a niteclub in my hometown when this song came out. They put tables on the dance floor and we got the best one. Gord was literally less than 10 feet from us. It was amazing. I don’t think Gord opened his eyes even once.😂

You got to take a look at the whole story.....final concert. Moving....
Modern day 70s rock. Gotta love the grove!
Great Canadian Band! So glad you guys did this!
We Canadians LOVE the HIP. The most sad day for Canadians was when Gord passed - a nation mourned.
This was filmed at a ballet aka strip club in Kingston called the Manor Gord and the boys would show up once or twice a month and play a set. Seen them many times there.
Talented group
Legendary Gord
When Gord died, the whole Country of Canada wept....You had to be there !!!

Hey guys, love your channel. Thanks for the Canadian content you put on your channel, this is a very important band in Canada.

In 2005 the song was temporarily banned from Canadian radio stations out of respect, when New Orleans flooded due to Hurricane Katrina
We miss Gord ❤🇨🇦
The thing about the HIP is it's a bar band,
Think about being in a bar having a few pops, relaxing, this is the band that any song from them would be perfect.
I’ve never heard of this band. I really liked the music. The vocals took a little while to grow on me.
Finally adding some videos! Good work. Keep em coming - would suggest NEW ORDER "Crystal" - iconic band who were pioneers in their genre and biggest selling club hit of all time coming from the UK.
Cordelia is a Hip song you guys should check out. The earlier stuff is amazing!!
If there is a band that should be way more popular, The Hip is it!

Please check out
It's A Good Life If You Don't Weaken
Shameless American Hip fan but this is a rabbit hole you definitely want to go down.
This song makes me think a Katrina
The Hip forbid airplay of this song for a couple of years after Katrina, out of respect for the city & people of New Orleans
Turn this up on a good stereo and loudspeakers....damn
I saw them in 1994 opening for Page and Plant. They weren't very good.
I know, Page even had to get Porl Thompson to play the difficult parts.
@@Sid-gu5qk Tragically Hip wasn't very good. P and P was what you'd expect
Where is the video??
From A Canadian. They are one of Canada's most over rated bands.
Tree pistols, Cordilla , Are great hip tunes
