I am a south Indian who grew up in Mumbai and I remember watching his music videos in late 80s and early 90s and I think that is what Punjabi culture truly is, I think.. saying this with full responsibility as a non Punjabi.. current Punjabi music has replaced this with western concepts of drugs, guns, debauchery and hedonism
My mother tongue is the Potohari dialect of Punjabi, and for some reason I can more clearly understand Gurdas’s lyrics than most of today’s Punjabi singers. His music warms my heart and connects me to my ancestors. Hard to describe. True artist.
