Pittsburgh Power's Max Mileage Fuel Borne Catalyst with an interview with creator Jane Gates, Part 1

  • Is Pittsburgh Power's Fuel Borne Catalyst the new "snake oil," we don't think so. Here is a review of the product along with testimonials from truck drivers with different engines all having similar results. This may be the best thing to hit our industry for a long time and could potentially save owner operators from bankruptcy by allowing the emission systems to work more efficiently. We interviewed it's creator, Jane Gates, and I think you'll love to hear her explanation of what this product is.

Jane is a very genuine and awesome person. I was struggling with after-treatment issues that was threatening to break me. I was skeptical, but in desperation, I began using the catalyst. It made all the difference, and I believe, it saved my business. I've been using the catalyst continuously for 500,000 miles. There have not been any adverse effects. The re-gens take place passively and unless I happen to exit the freeway during one, I would never know it was happening. I almost never see the HEST light. My DPF lasts longer between cleanings and looks great when disassembled. There is well researched science behind this product. Yes, it's expensive, but I stay on the road and earning for an affordable price...no shocks to my wallet from unexpected repairs or uncomfortable conversations over late deliveries. Try about 3 gallons before giving it a verdict. I am confident you will love it also. P.S. I transfer mine into a 1 gallon red gas jug with a valve neck and it's easier to dispense and no vapors. Just like gasoline it will attack certain plastics.

Power increase was immediate, just ordered whole bucket.just got a new f-250 powerstroke, put maxmilleage in first tank, now over 1000 miles and no regens when it should regenerate every 500 miles. I'm an owner-operator for 34 years and a long-term consumer of this catalyst. Speaking with Jane, I learned that the catalyst was used in underground mining operations to improve the air quality. She said that she had tests done in river boat tugs running up and down the Mississippi river with identical side-by-side diesels. The engines were maintained in the same way. They automatically balanced when running. When one engine was working harder, it slowed slightly and the other one sped up slightly to always balance the workload. The one engine that was being fueled with the catalyst added, showed an increase in fuel economy. She and Bruce Mallinson at Pittsburgh Power conducted a dynamometer test, (to eliminate human throttle inputs, wind, and terrain differences) before and after catalyst use, on a well-maintained engine, and then conducted the same test a little later to show a "return to baseline" for the engine. Jane is a scientist (PhD in chemical engineering) and she knows how to structure tests to eliminate as many variables as possible to get results that are beyond anecdotal. She also understands what is happening on a molecular level during combustion. She left a good job and dedicated her career to building her company. She went through some difficult times that would not have been possible without confidence in that decision. She knows without a doubt, in a scientific way, that the catalyst brings value beyond it's price to it's users. Pittsburgh Power has been helping truck owners attain improved performance and economy for decades and has partnered with her company to distribute and make the product conveniently available, at no additional cost! Use it, or don't, it's a choice. I see it as a wise investment in the success of my business.

Because of this product I feel that this will change our industry for those willing to listen. I am honored to be somebody that is testing a new "Jane Gates" product. Also, most of their shops are dealers for Max Mileage. If you have questions or doubts about using Max Mileage, call up a DPF Alternatives shop and hear what they have to say. I have been using this for a year and I am not going to stop using it. I don't fully understand how this works, but the first tank. 250 gallons. I noticed better mileage. Not a lot but maybe .3 tenths. The next tank I noticed better running. Over a year I am still using it. Funny how MANY people want immediate results but don't want to pay any money. You have to spend money to make money. Don't spend money to repair what you could have avoided. LABOR IS EXPENSIVE and shops love to sell you STUFF. So its up to you. I will buy this product until I stop trucking. Maybe longer. No product is a miracle. But this is close. I use it in my Harley, 2005 gmc gas. And yep the lawn mower. Hey if it works. You will not know till you try.

So I started using the catalyst in the past month and a half with my 2018 Cummins X15, and I've noticed that I haven't seen my High Exhaust Temperature light come on froming coming to a stop after driving a while. Also, after I have been sitting for a good while I do hear the regen process start but it only lasts for maybe 5 minutes.
The engine does seem to run smoother and quieter. I don't believe I've seen any improvement with fuel economy as of yet though, but I also understand that's not the main purpose of this catalyst. And I must say, after having two trucks in my driving career have so many DPF issues and constant shop time because of it, I will continue to use this product over time because it does seem to work so far.
I'll update with results later on.

@@truckingresources4240 So an update: I topped off my DEF on Tuesday night (6/28) and I didn't need to fill it again until Sunday (7/03) I believe that's the longest I've gone without needing to refill DEF. That was going from Wisconsin to El Paso, then back up to Kansas City with the truck almost constantly running. No major regens needed either. My truck is still doing just a 5 minute regen when I'm idling for a while, and still no High Exhaust Temperature light coming on. 2018 KW T680 with almost 508k miles on it and a Cummins engine.

@@Longhauler85 Everything you're noticing is exactly what M.M. does. Been using it for 500K miles in a 2013 ISX. It's not very accurate due to the wide variance in DEF noozles, but I check the MPG on my DEF usage exactly the way I do my diesel, and I went from 140mpg to 180mpg. Fewer and shorter regens save fuel and necessarily means less soot converted to ash, which plugs the DPF over-time. Less DEF at $3-4/gallon alone offsets the price of M.M. Not to mention a cleaner DPF means less exhaust restriction: more power to the ground, and delayed drop-off of MPG as the DPF would have plugged sooner. It's impossible to say how much that is saving.

I've seen it at the Oak Grove 70, and Kenly 95 this past week, for about $250 per gallon. I almost shit my drawers! I picked up a half gallon to try it. I regularly take off my manifolds and both sensors, which all have regularly been sooty. I'll only have about 1500 miles of driving with the MM, but will check everything when I get home this week. I'm not expecting anything great, as 1500 miles isn't much time, but I will clean them if sooty, and check again next home time to see if still fairly soot free. Again, I wouldn't expect soot free. Another thing. They need to include a measuring tube. I thought I was putting in the right about, but at second usage, I realized I went through about a third. Waaay too much, and a waste of $$! So, used a clean Lucas injector cleaner bottle, with the ounce indicator. I'll pick up something this week that works a little better.

The main benefit is in helping an emissions-compliant truck work in the real world. The cleaner the fuel burns in the combustion chamber, the happier the after-treatment system will be and the less aggravation it will give you and the less time you will spend in the shop at $100+/hr. You may see something like 1/2 mpg improvement and better DEF mileage. I average about 180 miles per gallon of DEF from a 550 ISX. If you're an

Hi Trucker Ron. Jane Gates here :).Thanks for your feedback. I have gotten this comment a lot over the years. Yes, treating upstream fuel distribution points with the FBC would make sense. This is because the benefit of 10% on average increased combustion efficiency is so dramatic in lowering emissions. The case for government oversite to implement at the pump is indeed compelling. Unfortunately, it's simply never going to happen. The explanations I have to offer are long and complex - so I will spare you. Suffice to say that the adoption of Better Diesel FBC, a.k.a., Max Mileage FBC, by end-users and retail distribution are both advancing well as determined by free market forces.

Hi Super Trucker. I am really sorry to hear that and would really like to understand your situation in more detail. First things first, did you call Pittsburgh Power to report this situation? I would suggest that you run it by them first. Pittsburgh Power does a great job with product support. And, we all stand to learn something new by working together to better understand your situation in particular. The folks at Pittsburgh Power will consult with me if need be. Since you are their customer you should reach out to them with this issue. I sincerely hope that you will. Thanks. -Jane

@@janegates7192 After I expressed my grievances Pittsburgh took care of me and I continue to use max mileage. It might have had something to do with the tune or something else but eventually worked itself out

I can assure you that I do not get paid. This is something that I believe in. I haven't found anybody yet that can dispute the product with facts but I am totally willing to hear both sides.
