    That’s just unbelievable good reactions to save the pedal strike! Expected a high side and a nasty pile up there, great vid as always.

    As someone who raced a little 13+ years ago and is thinking of dipping my toe in again as a 40+ master, I've been really enjoying your videos. Partially due to the tactics discussion and also just to see how safe the masters racing looks. Then I'll go and watch a video from a regular cat 5 race video..... oh boy.

      most of the time it's the guy that makes the mistake that goes down. crashing sucks.... why you almost never see me mid pack

    Fwiw, I really like your videos. It's good to see guys closer to my age ripping up the road.

    It is a pain in the ass from start to finish with these race videos, but I need content to watch so thank you!
    From the moment Sean pedal strikes until he’s going straight and upright again is nearly one whole second, I don’t know that you can apply skill in that amount of time, I don’t think the brain is that fast. It is more a matter of-
    Did the pedal strike reach the threshold of making a crash happen?
    But then again he didn’t crash it so he must be credited!
    And by the way, it is incredible to see a save mainly due to compliance of the tire in that it absorbed those two hits which in the case of a fully inflated tire with tube at say 90 psi would have resulted in a crash.
    Finally, there’s a technique to pedaling through turns, specifically when you’re in the apex of the turn and peddling you will need to stand your bike upright just a little bit as the inside pedal approaches the bottom of the pedal stroke. I did not see that technique applied or at least not enough.

      I'll agree with you, it was mostly luck. Too bad though, Mark was gonna get the lead out of his life and had a fighting chance to win

    Very nice save indeed.. Any idea what crank arm length this guy is running, wonder if shorter ones (i.e. 167.5) would have allowed him to pedal through)?

      I've always run 172.5, and that was my first pedal strike in 30 years of racing (I've scraped, but never a full pedal stack) In this case the Monster lead out was closing the apex on me and I adjusted at the last second....the wrong second. Shit happens

      @@shaunb93291 thanks for clarifying Shaun and again I’m glad you stayed upright!

      From the footage, it looked like there may have been a small amount of asphalt buildup at the edge of the gutter, so you probably lost the little bit of margin you might've otherwise had. I'm impressed you could do anything to stay up. The one time I clipped and popped my sew up, I just went down with no reaction. And I switched from 175 to 172.5 and tend to not pedal through corners as much.

      Did anybody go down from the loose bottle?

    • @shaunb93291
      @shaunb93291 3 роки тому

      @@biedawo You may be right, I was so shocked that it happened, because this is one of those courses that we have used since the 90's....I've literally taken that same corner hundreds of times and everyone pedals through...but you take higher speeds of bell lap and Monster could have taken the usual wide line to the outside gutter, but they decided to chop us to protect the lead out.....and it was a recipe for "almost" disaster. I was lucky, plain and simple..and the bottle miraculously missed everyone

    So with three of them in the break, wouldn’t it be better for you to pulling and attack?
