    I just completed a 47 minute conversation with customer service at T-mobile. After the customer service rep consulted with tech support several times she confirmed that I did not need to change my plan or equipment. Obviously you do need to have cell service to support the gateway, but other than that she said my plan will continue seamlessly. FYI

    Tom what you said about the GPS not being active is not true, it is always on they just have not locked them down to the registered location yet. I work for T-Mobile and there is either a sim card or ESIM in the device that only works with the Gateway modem as well as a IMEI that is in the device and all they need to do is lock the IMEI to just a few towers around the registered address on the account.
    These were never meant to be for RVs and it was just a mater of time before T-Mobile started to enforce the rules.

    I purchased my T Mobile to use in my RV and since my home address was not available they typed in an address that they knew would work. At most RV shows T Mobile is set up knowing we were going to g to travel with the “home” device. I have Starlink to use while stationary but I will be purchasing a hotspot from another carrier. This really stinks! I cannot imagine how much business they are willing to lose.

    Lets not make this into something its not. They are not "cracking down on RV'rs". They are cracking down on ANYONE that is violating the terms of service by using the device outside of the original service address and that included people that use it at a vacation home if the service address is their regular home.
    They are doing this because of the new "away" plan to extract more money from anyone that wants to use it outside their home.
    Sorry but the terms of service have always been that it must be used at the service address you gave when you signed up. they have every right to start enforcing that.

    • @davidwheeler7503
      @davidwheeler7503 5 місяців тому

      @greatquotestoliveby I guess you don't read the contracts. For the people who say they were told that they can travel with it, do they have signed statements from their sales rep stating that they could travel with it? If they do, then they may have a case, if they don't, then they won't. I work part time from home and had plan to travel periodically and still work remotely since I was also informed I could travel with this plan but i don't have a signed statement to that effect and I knew what it said in the contract and knew they could enforce the registered address use only provision in the contract at anytime, and now they will be, so i only get what im actually paying for. Does that stink? Yep, but it is what it is, and there were no surprises. If I were traveling a lot, I would pay the $160 price, but since I'm not, I won't be. Hopefully T-Mobile will discover that the $160 a month is an excessive price for ones who arent full time travelers and possibly offer part time travelers a more reasonable priced plan, but if they dont, the sun will still rise in the east and set in the west tomorrow. This country currently has bigger economic problems to resolve than mobile internet costs. Have a great day. P.S. Not a Bot.

He pays for tmobile home internet and service is great during the camping off season. Then all the people move in with their "home" plans in their campers and his speeds are trash for 6 months.
    The system was designed to fill up low loaded towers to make more money to pay for that site.
    Then people come along to rip off the system, shaft tmobile and other users.

    We did the exact same thing you did to get our verizon box and we only pay$25 a month for unlimited. We couldn’t get it in our area so we used a family member address. It works great. We we thinking about get t Mobil so we would have 2 carriers. I heard Connectet uses 5 carriers and it’s $130 a month. I would probably switch to that if Verzon does the same thing. We are in our motorhome about 65% a year.

    My plan is to see if they actually crack down. That part is all hearsay. They do have motivation to now but they’d still have to either update the software to lock it to your home area or have people monitoring locations. Likely intent be an issue unless and until you call in from the road for tech support.

    The plan is to stop all the roaming around the country with a specific address. T mobile will loose customers that abuse the privileges which is their main goal and if people use the away plan t mobile will fix their few customers that stay on and more towers will go up which all takes time. They should cut a break on minimum users that don't use a lot of data. I guess the cell phone would fit that bill. We will see all is speculation I haven't got a clue what the real reason is. 73

    IF you listened to Tom in the beginning he ONLY got the T-Mobile modem from using his daughters address; HE never signed up for T-Mobile!! Ergo, HE would be a NEW subscriber to T-Mobile and, prob have to pay the new rate! The rest of his stuff that HE is recommending is bogus; because even with “their” 10-20% discount you’ll be paying top $$, and, THEY get a commission!!!

  • @KeithKepplerRPLS

    It's dishonest of T Mobile reps to push this product regardless of whether your address is in an approved area or not. They just "find" one that works to get you signed up. This happened to me today when I signed up, which I thought was odd but was assured it didn't matter. I even informed them of my intent to use this service in an RV which would involve me moving back and forth in between 2 cities every so many months in areas that most likely aren't in areas of home internet service. At no time was this new plan brought up to me before I signed on. If it had, I wouldn't have proceeded. The only good thing about it is no contract has you locked in. This is bad business in my opinion, not that they are creating a new plan, but because they have not been and currently still are not conveying this type of information to existing or new customers.

    Sorry Tom, you are wrong. The price for T-Mobile home internet is not going up at all. The $50 home internet is not going up and you are being very disingenuous for trying to say it is. In your contract agreement, it says the T-Mobule home internet is only to be used at your registered address. Just because they weren't enforcing you from using it elsewhere yet, doesn't mean it was priced for you to use it wherever you wanted to. The NEW price of $160 is for their NEW AWAY plan, not the existing home internet plan. So maybe, T-Mobile just might be contacting you about spreading disinformation and down right lying about their services.
