Thank you so much for this video I have watched many poodle grooming videos which talk about pattern clipper blades Combs and seemingly everything under the sun however none of them have talked about how to hold the Clippers against the dog or how much pressure is needed. I too have a large Goldendoodle. My girl is nowhere as well behaved on the table as Gus. She has strong opinions about what is allowed. Like when she was a puppy and I would go to pluck a leaf off her back. Oh no, don't touch that, I was saving it for later. That's Maisey. As she's gotten older she's not quite so bad but I have had groomer issues. Even when she went to the high dollar groomer I had to fix stuff but what bothered me was her showing her teeth when I would go to brush under her ears. When she snarled and snapped I decided enough was enough. She was telling me something and I needed to listen. Because of your videos I decided to keep her home and take care of her myself because something was happening at the salon. She will never look as good as Gus but she looking better each time I take the clippers to her. She also is not showing her teeth or snarling when up on the table anymore. Thank you. Hi! I read your chart on which blade sizes to use for Lhasa. But my clippers don't offer that size. It has one blade and 4 guard sizes. The guard sizes are 3, 6, 9, 12 mm. The clippers themselves have a blade with an adjustable switch that has 0.8, 1.1, 1.4, 1.7, 2.0mm. I have my lhasa short hair on body. And cleaned up on face. But I'm letting his pony tail grow, so that has never been cut. I just put a ponytail. This will be my first time grooming. He has been groomed once professionally. I have really studied your videos. And I'm sure I can do it. It's just the blade and guards I'm not too sure of.
Thank you for the demo. My Wahl KM 10 (corded) only came with a 10 blade, and no other blades, combs, or attachments. I was reading the comment below about 10 being the limit for shortness, and you responding about the 7, but I don't know what else to use - as the 10 is all that came with this clipper. Thanks again.
A 10 blade is the only blade that comes with any detachable clipper. You have to purchase the other blade sizes you prefer separately. I do not clip a dogs, body and legs with a 10 blade unless they are severely matted. It’s too short. The shortest i go is a 7 blade.. Guard combs and blades can be purchased at groomerschoice.com.
@@GoGroomer It is kind of too late- I clipped her last night and this morning. For the most part I just skimmed her on the outside to not cut it too short but I have a couple of "bald spots" where my hand slipped and some longer clumps and sections, BUT AT LEAST,, she is clean, and the hair has been shortened so that it will not get so matted. I will purchase the number 7. My groomer I think used to use a 4, but I'm not sure. I just bought your clipper guide and am going to start grooming my standard poodle myself. What do you recommend- I like her a little fluffy. I don't mind doing this every 6 weeks to keep it from getting too matted. Thank you for all your input. Over the next 6 weeks, while her bald spots grow out, I'll watch your videos. Hopefully next time, I ;ll do a less awful job.
I wish you would have watched my videos prior to purchasing a clipper without understanding how to give a dog a hair cut. I have worked very hard on these videos to give a clear understanding of proper steps to safely groom a dog.
Hi, Im new to grooming and have inherited my late mothers Shitzu. Could you recommend a set up that would keep Jenny with length on her coat? We hate it when she looks too short.
I would love it if you would do a video about clipping the face, particularly around the eyes. I have a standard poodle and I'm about to start grooming him, if I can, as my groomer is retiring. I am afraid of hurting his eyes. I LOVE your videos! Thank you!
I am starting dog groomer- working on having best tools.... so I can open my shop at home ... Black Friday it’s coming.... I have Wahll 5in1clipper now... I want to buy KM Wahll clipper do I should buy cordless???? Or what you have in video ... Do cordless clipper working good with vacuum clipper to?
That’s exciting! Either the wahl km or km10 can be adapted for the hair vac system. It’s your preference as to whether you want a cordless or a corded clipper.
Who can give me advice to get a vacuum to attach to my Wahl km10 for home groomer. Is it an attachment for my vacuum or is it a whole new vacuum system I need to buy?
When you were removing your comb did I spot a vacuum attachment?? Had one for our human clippers and it was great for pulling long hair up to cut and also to keep the mess down. If so where do you get one? I have an Andis UltraSpeed 2 speed clipper and would love to find something like that. Also loving your how to format and taking the time to show & explain all of the details
@@GoGroomer I've just started my own mobile dog grooming business in Australia, and ur videos r like a godsend....the way u explain things is soooo understandable, thank u so much ❤️
if a 7 blade is shorter than a 5, wouldn't a 30 blade be shorter than a 10? if I heard that correctly, you said that the higher the number, the shorter the clip, but then earlier you said that a 10 blade would give new meaning to a "shave down". Just wanted clarification.
If you look at the part of the video where she shaves the tummy and sanitary areas, that’s how short a 10 would be. Almost no hair. A 30 would be even less hair than that, basically skin. Higher than that is for surgery prep. She was saying that a 10 is so short that it can damage the hair follicles and cause ingrown hairs, that could mean a trip to the vet. 10-30 is good for under the comb attachments though. I’m only commenting based on what was presented in the video, and very limited experience. I’ve learned a lot from this video too!
Every time I take my aussie doodle in to get groomed, they shave him down entirely and he's unrecognizable. I like him fluffy. He's brushed and not matted but they say his hair is too thick. What do you suggest for a longer hair dog other than scissors and are the vacuum clippers good quality? He's a larger doodle. Thank you😊
One question: I had heard that if you are using snap-on combs, you should use a 30 blade for a better result. Is that not your experience? I've been using the 30 with snap-on combs over it, but should I switch to a 10 instead?
@@GoGroomer Oh, good, I just got a new Wahl 30 regular blade and a new 10 competition series, so I'll try them both. I had been using my older Andis 30, and was okay, but after using it for so long, maybe getting a little dull. I now have 3 dogs -- all rescues, and two of them are not big fans of grooming. LOL Also, thank you SO MUCH for so generously sharing all the fantastic info on your channel! I love watching your videos. I wish you were closer to Massachusetts.
My shiloh shepherds are have 2 coats. I'll do your shampoos and conditioner method to help shed, but there are still mats that need to be clipped with my clippers. They get stuck on the mats. My Sr dog spends most of the day laying down. This has formed huge solid hair mats. But the clippers get stuck on the big balled mats.. idk what to do. Maybe stronger clippers? ugh....he's 12 years old and isn't loving my poking at him but he will feel so much better once they're gone.
I know not to use human clippers on a dog, but any reason I can't use a dog trimmer on myself? Been clipping my own hair for more than 25 years. Looking to buy one really nice clipper for the both of us instead of 2 mediocre ones. My boy Marley is a shih-tzu. Oh, and I also groom my girlfriends pom, Chester (I call him Uncle fester 🙂).
From personal experience, we recently found out the clippers my dad used on us when we were kids were the same clippers he used on his Poodle and Samoyed from when he was younger. Not sure if this is helpful but I wanted to share my story haha.
I have an Andis 5 speed and the same guards you showed. What guard no. On the body Are you using on this dog? What no. On the head? Also, how you buzz near the nipple area. I'm not going to groom my dog until I know as much as possible. I love her to much. I was going to try to go to a school in Hastings MN but I'm on SSDI and 62 and they want a LOT of money and I get that, but I can't afford to do it nor pay a groomer. I've spent a quite a bit on buzzers and guards. I'm just worried about elbows, nipples. I've groomed before with cheap buzzers and NEVER again.
Would you buy the 2 year guarantee Thru Amazon for the clippers? Do you buy the Combs separate ? How much is it to have a blade Sharpen ? All new wahl km clippers come with a 5 year warranty. I send my blades to kenchii.com for sharpening. The dew claws are no different for me to trim. I use my other fingers to push the dew claw away from the digit so I can trim it. Thanks for the love 😊💕
What clipper blade size was used in this video?? Thank you for the info, but the blade length is super important. This video is only half helpful without that.
Hi Amy, it's MARI 😊💛, I have to say that I have groomed dogs with the 10 blade Andis, which is 1.5 mm, but I always tell the costumers it's the limit of shortness and that they will have to warm their dog if with a sweater it gets cold. I have used it when the dog comes in a terrible status and you can't even brush them. Now I feel a little guilty 🥺, but sometimes the owners really ask for it, and by now my dog clients haven't had any issues. But as you say, I use the most the 7FC in my case, but now that it's summer here (Chile 🇨🇱) I've been asked a lot for shorter haircut, and I'm using the 10W Wahl (1.8mm). I'd like to know what do you think about what I'm telling you. You help me a lot and I know you always say the truth. 😊💛🇨🇱
I really appreciate your honesty and you are letting your clients tell you how to perform your job. You are the professional and should advise them that a 7F blade is the safer choice for a short trim. It’s still short but will not damage the hair follicle which could result in blocked follicles that will require a trip to the vet. Therefore you are saving them money and looking out for the best interest of their pet 💕
Please watch the video, she recommends to not use a #10 on the body, the shortest she uses is a 7 blade. A matted shavedown is a different scenario. Also she has in her dropdown menu a link to the Andis grooming chart which has excellent recommendations for blades for a number of dogs and a description of individual blades. Hope this helps you.
Just bought Andis 24820 easy clip w/detachable ceramic blade. I have never attempted to use clippers. I get my toy poodle cut at a 7 at the groomers. Will the Whal stainless steel attachment guide combs work on the Andis? Also I don’t know what number to purchase. PLEASE HELP!!! I sure would appreciate it! With this dog virus going around I am not taking her for grooms. So I need to try doing this myself. Thanks!!!!!!!
I have been looking for the clippers you use KM10 I keep bumping to out of stock. Any suggestions? Or are they not making them ? Thank you for your videos❤
Pup looks Beautiful ❤️ I have a question though I remeber you saying 7 blade was in your opinion too short to clip a dog. What is the situation that calls for 7 on the body?
It is execrable but I feel it is too short for a Yorkie. They have a thin (not dense) coat. I like a little more length to protect the skin for a Yorkie. 🤗
@@vickiwittmeyer4438 No, a 10 would leave it even shorter. Remember--the higher the blade number, the shorter the hair will be. So a 10 blade will leave the hair shorter than a 7.
@@GoGroomer but does 'buzzing', which I assume to mean you are basically trimming down to skin, work for any dog? Idk much about this stuff, but I've heard about undercoats and overcoats and how just no guard buzzing can damage future growth of an undercoat. Any truth to that?

What do you recommend- I like her a little fluffy. I don't mind doing this every 6 weeks to keep it from getting too matted. Thank you for all your input. Over the next 6 weeks, while her bald spots grow out, I'll watch your videos. Hopefully next time, I ;ll do a less awful job.
I wish you would have watched my videos prior to purchasing a clipper without understanding how to give a dog a hair cut. I have worked very hard on these videos to give a clear understanding of proper steps to safely groom a dog.
You can recover and start fresh. 💖
So if I have only a 10 blade will my guards that come with it work until new blade can be purchased
Can you use Wahl clipper snap on combs on an Oster 2 speed clipper? Thank you
You sure can. As long as the clipper uses detachable blades, they are universal.
@@GoGroomer Thank you. I like your channel and I'm going to start clipping my 3 springers. My groomer is soooo.. busy as of lately.
thank you very much from Italy
Absolutely!!! 💖
That small black and white dog looks exactly like my Havaneese, Charlie.😊
I need a link for the Guard Combs that are compatible with the WAHL clippers used in this video! 😦

Hi,
Im new to grooming and have inherited my late mothers Shitzu.
Could you recommend a set up that would keep Jenny with length on her coat? We hate it when she looks too short.
Many videos on my channel to help you.
is there an attachment for a longer coat up to 1.5 -2 inch?
Yes. Try fresh shears or oster.
I would love it if you would do a video about clipping the face, particularly around the eyes. I have a standard poodle and I'm about to start grooming him, if I can, as my groomer is retiring. I am afraid of hurting his eyes. I LOVE your videos! Thank you!
I’ll do my best:)
Yes, I have a Hanvey hair back system.
Omg where have u heen all my life ❤️
Right here honey!!! I’m not going anywhere💪
@@GoGroomer I've just started my own mobile dog grooming business in Australia, and ur videos r like a godsend....the way u explain things is soooo understandable, thank u so much ❤️
Very informative! Thank you!
Glad to help🙏
Great stuff.
if a 7 blade is shorter than a 5, wouldn't a 30 blade be shorter than a 10? if I heard that correctly, you said that the higher the number, the shorter the clip, but then earlier you said that a 10 blade would give new meaning to a "shave down". Just wanted clarification.
Yes, 30 is shorter than a 10. 10 blade is to short to shave a dog is my reference.
Brilliant video and info. Thank you
Every time I take my aussie doodle in to get groomed, they shave him down entirely and he's unrecognizable. I like him fluffy. He's brushed and not matted but they say his hair is too thick. What do you suggest for a longer hair dog other than scissors and are the vacuum clippers good quality? He's a larger doodle. Thank you😊
Thank you great explanation
My pleasure 🤗
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
One question: I had heard that if you are using snap-on combs, you should use a 30 blade for a better result. Is that not your experience? I've been using the 30 with snap-on combs over it, but should I switch to a 10 instead?
30 is fine I use either and great results.
Gr8 information
My shiloh shepherds are have 2 coats. I'll do your shampoos and conditioner method to help shed, but there are still mats that need to be clipped with my clippers. They get stuck on the mats. My Sr dog spends most of the day laying down. This has formed huge solid hair mats. But the clippers get stuck on the big balled mats.. idk what to do. Maybe stronger clippers? ugh....he's 12 years old and isn't loving my poking at him but he will feel so much better once they're gone.
Thank
I know not to use human clippers on a dog, but any reason I can't use a dog trimmer on myself? Been clipping my own hair for more than 25 years. Looking to buy one really nice clipper for the both of us instead of 2 mediocre ones. My boy Marley is a shih-tzu. Oh, and I also groom my girlfriends pom, Chester (I call him Uncle fester 🙂).
Well, if you get the kenchii flash5 with guard combs optional, you could do both dog and human.
From personal experience, we recently found out the clippers my dad used on us when we were kids were the same clippers he used on his Poodle and Samoyed from when he was younger. Not sure if this is helpful but I wanted to share my story haha.
Gracias Amy 🎉

Would you buy the 2 year guarantee
Thru Amazon for the clippers?
Do you buy the Combs separate ?
How much is it to have a blade
Sharpen ?
I've just been using scissors on

So going to try using clippers now..

Ok.. Enough Of This..lol

3/8” guard comb attachment over a 10 blade.
Awesome Thank you
Amy can you please tell me what kind of tub you use and where do you get the holders you have clipped on the tub, thankyou

Brilliant 🤩
I bought the Wahl clipper you recommended but my problem is i cant find combs that fit them.
You need to watch my videos. I have covered all that and more.
I love your leadership literally a pro 🫶🏼🐾
Thank you very much 💖
Will #10 be good for a curly labradoodle? Mine is the tall type 70 pound.
A 10 blade is not adequate-too short can cause clogged and blocked hair follicles.
Nothing shorter than a 7F on the body is my rule.
@@dottyk1637 you are awesome!!!! 😊
@@GoGroomer and I'm not even a groomer🤣 just trying to help out
Thanks!
You are appreciated!!! Thank you friend:)
Thank you sooooo much for this video! 😘
Yes, they work with a 10,15, or 30 blade under the guard combs, try a 1/4” comb.
@@GoGroomer THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH for getting back with me so fast! I sure do appreciate it! I will try it.
I have been looking for the clippers you use KM10 I keep bumping to out of stock. Any suggestions? Or are they not making them ? Thank you for your videos❤
Pup looks Beautiful ❤️
I have a question though
I remeber you saying 7 blade was in your opinion too short to clip a dog. What is the situation that calls for 7 on the body?
Schnauzer or spaniel pattern sets. Summer trim, or matted dog:)
@@GoGroomer ty I'll put it in my notes :)
What size clipper clipper
are you using
Thanks Amy ♥️🐾🐩
My pleasure 😊
Should I use clippers on a poms coat or just scissors?
Blending shears.
@@GoGroomer thanks! I don’t want to ruin his massive thick coat.
I LOVE this dog, do you know what breed it is?
The large grey and white one
Would You Recommend A #7 Blade For A Yorkie ?
It is execrable but I feel it is too short for a Yorkie. They have a thin (not dense) coat. I like a little more length to protect the skin for a Yorkie. 🤗
@@GoGroomer
Sounds good so a 10?
Or higher?
@@vickiwittmeyer4438 No, a 10 would leave it even shorter. Remember--the higher the blade number, the shorter the hair will be. So a 10 blade will leave the hair shorter than a 7.
@@jeanachang
THANK YOU..
Yes . A 7
I like how the $40 model Oster comes with a case and combs but the $269 Wahl km10 comes with NOTHING LOL. It better be good 😅
There is no comparison. Km is the king.
Are the same clippers and blades good for a matted cats ?
Yes, #10 blade
@@GoGroomer so do you recommend using a 10# blade on cats? 😺🤍

Hello I am from RSA I am interested in the sprie which is a conditioner where can I get it for sale Herta Hoon
I just buzz my dog like he’s about to join basic training
Sometimes that is the best choice.
@@GoGroomer but does 'buzzing', which I assume to mean you are basically trimming down to skin, work for any dog? Idk much about this stuff, but I've heard about undercoats and overcoats and how just no guard buzzing can damage future growth of an undercoat. Any truth to that?
who sharpens your clipper blades
