If that happens dont change 1 tire only, always in pair and that differencial will be fine. If one tire have a lot less profile and other brand new the computer reading wheel rpm can make a mess. This goes for every modern 4wd.
Thank you! Your advice unlocked my CDL…2018 GX 460. Especially helpful to know. You actually need a full 50 to 100’ to drive in reverse. Saw another video where it said. Just 6 inches to 1 foot, which did not do the trick. Glad I looked this up.
Good tip. I have mostly older generation 4WD with open differential. When it wont come out of 4WD, the same method also applies. Reversing for a short distance, while "gently" pushing the appropriate level to disengage the 4WD mode. To be honest, I believe that this is the most basic most 4WD owner ought to know.
@@autoobsessivegarage I think it has to do with the fact that new 4WD are armed to the teeth with electronics. There is always a button for just about everything. New Land Rover Discovery is a good example. As a result, people forget about the basic things. But I am not knocking LX470 as I am actively searching for one to replace my Nissan Patrol GQ.
Absolute Legend, Liked & Subscribed! The steering wheel was tough to turn, then I heard a click and the VSC Off & Centre Diff Lock lights came on. Reversed 30m, heard another click and both lights turned off.
Thanks for this video! 2014 LX (200 series) the driving backwards worked for me as well... Side note: This should be tried first in my opinion. It's the easiest test. 😜
Glad to hear it helped. I agree it’s the easiest fix and usually gets the job done, but if any of those items are an issue the backup test won’t fix the diff sticking. So there’s some logic to my madness.
Thank you for this fix. I have been stressing the cost of getting it towed to a shop and the repair cost. I tried several other suggestions like back and forth but I think driving in reverse for a little bit while pressing the button was the key. My diff lock immediately went off and I could feel the difference in turning but VSC off and TRAC off was still on, restarted the car and that cleared those also.
Great video! I have a 2002 lexus lx470. I accidentally hit the button with my knee. The button does not turn the indicator lights off until I put it in reverse and was able to turn wheels and lights went off. I did not hear a click but I knew it was disengaged! Thank you so much!
I was stuck in a traffic jam caused by a major accident today and the fire engine wanted to come through so we all pulled to the side to let it through, my knee pushed that badly placed button and it wouldn't turn off. I started to panic as I knew the traffic would move at some point and it was a 70mph road so I couldn't mess about, the reverse cure wasn't an option either lol...thankfully as soon as I'd travelled a few metres the diff unlocked. So thanks for the video, though none of it helped in that situation, I now know what to do in such a scenario 😆
Thanks you I will give this a try, our Center Diff Lock button got pushed by mistake on our Lexus GX 470. It was driving weird so we just left it at the grocery store.
Chadwick - the drive in reverse trick worked like a charm on my 2015 GX460! I am seriously grateful for this video and with others you do - helping folks like me figure these things out!
You are so very welcome. Happened to me one day and I immediately started trouble shooting all the possible causes. Figured I would share since other folks may see the seem issue.
I disconnected my battery because I had to replace my alternator. Had to wait for the alt for a week so the battery was disconnected for that long, so anyways. The new alt. Was installed as well as new battery. As soon as I started the car, vgrs light, vsc trac , vsc off lights are all on solid, not blinking. . . I havent tried your method yet tho to see if it'll turn off. I was hoping by driving it, it'll recalibrate itself and turn off. .
You will know immediately if your center diff is locked when you drive it. It will feel like a tank when you’re trying to corner. If this is the case, try my steps to resolve it. Keep me updated and good luck.
Great question as they seem unrelated. I’ve seen a few weak or defective batteries illuminate multiple lights, traction control, ABS, etc. this is caused by the low voltage signal triggering the warning light. It’s an easy test to ensure the battery is healthy before chasing other causes when you have a random warning light illuminate.
last one worked perfect on my 2016 gx460, not sure why they put that button right next to your knees where it can easily be bumped/turned off....thanks!
I recently bought Land cruiser 2006 GXR. I am still very new to the 4x4. I have noticed that 4x4 gear is on "H" since i bought the car. please let me know if the gear lever should be on "N" instead of "H". I am little confused.
@@asim4evr Of course, you're welcome. Remember that you need to be completely stopped and place the regular shifter into N before changing between H and L. The N in the 4WD mode shifter is for Neutral also...anytime the vehicle needs to be towed or pushed is where it probably would see the most use. I have never placed mine in N. Take care.
When I am in drive and step on the brake, the "R"(reverse) light comes on and the backup camera comes on also. Any idea what is going on? Great video, thanks. It's a Lexus lx470.
@@autoobsessivegarage I know, it's crazy. I have brought it to 2 mechanics, they both can't figure it out. Because the code it's reading is a code for the Safety Neutral Control....which I already replaced that with a new one.
Do you think having it parked in a slope in my driveway and having the tires turn all the right caused the center diff flashing lights? I drive my 23' 460 1-2 a week.
Mine doesn't show up the difflock light on the cluster at all, pressing the center difflock button does nothing. And its much harder to turn the steering wheel. Can't drive it. Any fixes?
Thanks so much. My 2015 GX460 had this issue today for some reason. The reverse worked. I owe you one.
krazeekalvin no problem at all. Glad to hear it helped you out.
Thanks! The reverse trick easily fixed the issue.
Cherry108 glad to hear it!
Thank you so much. My GX470 had this same issue, and I followed your instruction reversed the car, then that fixed the issue.
June Vu Tran that’s awesome to hear that it helped!
Got a flat in my 2019 GX 460, replaced the tire, was stuck with differential for some reason, drove wonky, did the reverse tip and good to go!

Agreed, but many LX470 owners use the diff locks rarely leading to sticking. I do love when classic tricks just work.

this happened to me yesterday in a parking lot and rolling it back in reverse about 50 feet did the trick! Greatly appreciate your post

Oh boy that’s a tough situation. Yeah 9 times out 10, reverse will unlock that sticky diff.
This workaround also worked on my GX470, thank you so much 👍🏽
Basically the same drivetrain.
That’s awesome to hear!
Awesome! Huge help. We did the reverse thing. Great ride
That’s great…always nice to know not helped out.
Reverse trick worked for me
Thank you.

Reverse and forward sorted out my differential lock and disengaged... Thanks

The reverse truck helped in my 4 runner!!!

Heck yeah man!

Should fix it right up. Find an area with enough space to back up a fair distance and it should release.

Drive reverse and all good now

I have the similar problem I remove these 4wheel drive shaft but vehicle refuse to move
Thanks a ton!! It really was helpful 😊

the backing trick worked!

My 2006 land cruiser dont have diff lock switch. Any idea why is that ? I just bought it in 2 weeks ago. Can you please reply me thank you.
Nittu Kandarappallil you should still have the center diff lock button. The rear diff lock had a physical button on 98-99 models.

I just drove my car not even reverse and its gone
Mine won’t engage at all
Mins the yellow one
