RIP Taylor 💔 When Dave was looking for a drummer, he asked Taylor who he thought would be a good drummer to ask, not asking HIM because Alanis was a MUCH bigger artist at the time than Foo Fighters, and he didn't think Taylor would accept. But Alanis knew Taylor would be drumming for Foos long before Dave asked, because whenever they crossed paths on the road, Alanis could see that Taylor and Dave were two peas in a pod. Taylor talks about his time playing with Alanis in her doc, Jagged. So sad that he's gone😭
I think you'll also really like Alanis' song "The Uninvited", the video of her live performance is best - her voice is so beautiful in that performance. Another really good song is "Head over Feet"
Have they ever reacted to no doubt tracks? That would be a good female Friday because Gwen Stefani is the boss of that band. Then there's another old song from back in the '90s by a lady and I can't remember the name. It says nobody calls on the phone except maybe the Pope maybe in Rome. Maybe is Sarah McLaughlin but I don't know for sure cuz I wasn't around. Those would be suggestions for female Friday. Even the Go-Go's which is the only all female band that will throw music sing it and play the instruments before and there's never been another one since. I just watched the documentary on them yesterday so that's how I know. The Go-Go's would definitely be a good one for female Friday
I saw Alanis in concert in Hawaii back in the 90's, and she was amazing. She is really tiny, probably not much over 5 feet, but she has a massive stage presence! She was bouncing all over the stage like a five year old on a huge sugar rush, and she went back and forth from singing, to playing the guitar and harmonica at the same time, to pushing the drummer off the drum kit and going ballistic on the drums! She made the energizer bunny look tired and slow!
my favorite song by Alanis is track 1 from Jagged Little Pill, All I Really Want. It has one of my all-time favorite lines. "Why are you so petrified of silence? Here can you handle this?" then goes silent for 3 seconds. it's brilliant
I said this last time you did Alanis... My favorite song by her is "Uninvited" from the soundtrack for City of Angels. (copied from previous post) I love the way it slowly builds with the swelling music floating around her voice... Till the full band/orchestra kicks in with the strings. If you do the live version you might not get the strings that the studio version has. The studio version uses an upright bass. This song has always reminded me of "Kashmir" by Led Zepplin in how it builds and its dynamic orchestra sound.
History has been a lot kinder to this artist (and this album) than the critics and fans of more aggressive music (who saw her songs as little more than self-indulgent temper tantrums) were when this was released in 1995. I wasn't really a fan myself (of course, this came out when I was a record store manager, and I saw and heard this album ALL DAY), but I listen to it now, and it's solid 90s pop/ rock, up there with Collective Soul or Live or Deep Blue Something or Better Than Ezra. Thanks for the trip down memory lane I didn't think I was going to enjoy . . . but did. :)
Gotta say it - this has never been one of my favorites of hers, probably because I've heard it too many times. There are quite a few others that, in my brain, will never grow old. You've seen her embrace her rough side ("You Oughta Know") and her playful side (this and "Hand in My Pocket"), but if you want to see another side of Alanis, a fuller, deeper, richer side, do "Uninvited". "Thank U" is also a testament to how damn brilliant she is at lyrics. If I had to pick a third to recommend, it'd be "You Learn". And PLEASE, do more 90s artists - Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, and Garbage all had (and still have) huge fanbases, and they deserve a shot at winning you over.
@@AL13NM I love Sarah McLachlan's song "Elsewhere" so far have NEVER heard ONE youtuber react to it. I wish they would get more into Sarah, Tori, Jewel and MORE Kate Bush!
If you want a woman with amazing vocal control and a gorgeous and unique voice, please try Sarah McLachlan. She had opera training early in her life and although her music is not even remotely operatic,, the mastery it gave her over her instrument is incredible and the emotions she can make you feel with a note... she is amazing.
Julie and I drove an hour and a half to see Tori open on the 9 weeks tour. Couldn't stay for AM's entire show, as Julie was a teacher and we had to face Friday morning. The only thing that made it easier was the vast number of female teenagers who converted a concert into a boy band show-like fan fest.
I think Tori and Alanis co-headlined that tour and played similar-length sets. But Tori did go on first, as Alanis had experienced that huge chart and album sales success. I did a lot of driving to see that show.
Fun fact about this one: none of the events/circumstances in the song are actual ironies. Yet, that is what makes the title accurate- because the song is called Ironic, yet includes zero actual ironies, the song, in itself, is Ironic. I just adore that, so much.
She had a lot of songs that were big on the radio around 95/96. Ironic, you oughta know, hand in my pocket, you learn, head over feet. All from the same album.
Alanis is a phenomenal vocalist and a fearless songwriter, as you noticed. Also listen to the way she does her cadence, which syllables she chooses to stress and when and how. I think no one since Frank Sinatra did so much with the way they time their words. She is incredible.
She is a poet. Her lyrics are prose, every line a tome down a rabbit hole into a multiverse of worlds within worlds. A pure artist with an original voice, both literally and artistically and geyser of creativity and imagination. She's an idea farm. Listening to ten seconds of her cures any and all traces of writers block. Her follow up album has one of my favorite word combinations ever strung together in a row for a title: Former Supposed Infatuation Junkie. This Goddess, this lioness, poet warrior, she contains multitudes.
Alanis is so cool. My FAVORITE song is Uninvited, from the City of Angels soundtrack. It's haunting and beautiful. I also love her song Head over Feet. Another really great song by her is Forgiven.
Head Over Feet, You Learn, and Mary Jane are wonderful songs you should react to by Alanis Morissette. Ironic is a great song and a fabulous video and I’m glad you checked it out!
I heard that Alanis morissette was originally pop singer in Canada and then it didn't really work out too hot and that's when she started to go this different genre. Just what I heard by a few people
@@choice12ozborne So says her wikipedia entry. I'd thought Jagged Little Pill (mid-90's) was her first after she outgrew You Can't Do That On Television, but she did have 2 dance albums released in Canada in the late 80's-early 90's apparently.

Something that I didn't know until just recently was that the late Taylor Hawkins was her drummer for a time.. not sure if he played on Jagged Little Pill or not.. but I think the vast and unpaid comment section will let me know if I am right. As always, love the channel!
You should see the video for this as well, it's quite good. Alanis was in a lot of ways a challenge to the status quo, and I'll always love her for that. She had a real tendency to push the bounds of 'acceptable', and not even in a profane way really. She just said things that coming from a woman, made some people uncomfortable. And she should get some kind of award just for that.
“Uninvited” live performance from the Grammys (I believe it was the Grammys) is an experience you won’t soon forget. Also You Learn by Alanis is amazing.
Alanis Morissette is to the city of Ottawa what Celine Dion is to the the city of Montreal...queen bee. Well known in her own city, fame did not come until the release of this song. At that point, most of us Ottawans figured that her career was waning and that her claim to fame would be as a child singer/actress (co-stared in the Kids' TV hit 'You can't do that on Television' }. Destiny had other things in mind.
Did you know that Taylor Hawkins was her drummer during these years. When he met Dave from foo fighters she knew he was gonna leave. They remained great friends. She is truly 1 of the greatest talents of all times.
The thing I loved about Alanis is just didn't give a fuck about what ppl thought about her art. She was just honest and put it in your face to like or not like. loved her attitude and that voice. amazing artist.

I was waiting for a while for you guys to do this song, it’s absolutely amazing! I wanted you to start your journey with her listening to this song first. Next you absolutely have to listen to Uninvited, I think you will be blown away 😊😊
@@AZambri1 Yes, they did Hand in pocket and you outta know. I was hoping Ironic was the first one they reviewed. I felt like it showed her talent much more than the 2 they reviewed. Thank you for the reply ☺️
Fun fact: In 1997 Before joining Foo Fighters, the drummer Taylor Hawkins was in the pop singer Alanis Morissette band. He was on her band during 1995 and 1996on “Jagged Little Pill” and “Can’t Not” tours.
Alanis is amazing - the music video for this song is very clever as well. She has so many great songs, but one of my favorites (and hopefully yours) is the music video for "Everything" - trust me!
Alanis Morissette had a lot of hits. I like this one the best. Since I live in Northern Illinois watching her drive in the snow always makes me smile even though I cannot stand driving in the snow LoL , I love this video 🙂
You two should really check out Thank You by Alanis! She bares her soul on that song, it's really powerful. She recorded it after her long trip to India, she's stated that it saved her life and created a new perspective on her life 🙂✌️
Alanis has a very special voice & delivery! Melanie, from the late 60s, early 70s, could play with her voice in a similar way in "Brand New Key (The Roller Skate Song)"'. But her most famous song is "Lay Down" which she was inspired to write after WOODSTOCK. VERY POWERFUL!! Fiona Apple, mid 90s, would bounce up & down the scales: "Criminal".
We definitely need some Melanie.....PLEASE....Check out her Woodstock performances....Start with Beautiful People. Yes, her studio versions of the cover of Ruby Tuesday and her original hit, Lay Down (Candles In The Rain) are great as well. She has that HIPPY vibe Amber loves.
Glad you guys are checking out Alanis Morissette she's awesome! You should check out 'You Learn'. Btw none of those things she sings about are actually ironic which in itself is quite ironic! Lol
This entire album is 🔥 spawned 5 hit singles! You oughtta know, ironic, hand in my pocket, head over heels and you learn. You should do the others you haven't checked out before moving on to uninvited and Thank U... different periods of her life and career.
Even though she already released 2 albums, her 1st 2 albums were not 'rock' or 'alternative ' so they don't really count, Jagged Little Pill' has to be in the top 10 debut rock releases, maybe top 15.🤷♂️
After the success of "You Oughta Know", the album's other hits helped send Jagged Little Pill to the top of the charts. "All I Really Want" and "Hand in My Pocket" followed, and the fourth U.S. single, "Ironic", became Morissette's biggest hit. "You Learn" and "Head over Feet", the fifth and sixth singles, kept Jagged Little Pill (1995) in the top 20 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for more than a year. Jagged Little Pill sold more than 16 million copies in the U.S.; it sold 33 million worldwide, making it the second biggest-selling album by a female artist (behind Shania Twain's Come On Over).
This entire album is amazing. There are some great tracks that didn't become hits. "Perfect" hits me emotionally every time I hear it. "Right Through You" and "Forgiven" are easily as good as the hit singles. Anyone who hasn't listened to this album probably missed the best album of the 1990s.
This, to me, is the perfect reflection of Alanis's iconic sound. love this song. The whole ironic part written from that ending phrase, meeting the man of my dreams and then meeting his beautiful wife....all those instances bring out that awful awkward feeling. Thanks u2!!
Alanis is great! I remember a time when she did pop music back in the day in Canada. I kinda wish you guys reacted to her music video of Ironic though, the visuals were great! ☺️
This was back in her nihilist days. She soon after went on a long spiritual journey to find her meaning in life. I love it when people have enough insight to know there is more to life than things.
So glad yourselves as well as others are appreciating her music. It is so easy to enjoy. Your House was a bonus track on Jagged Little Pill. She sings it A Capella. It is a great song that I bet you'll both really enjoy. I have recently watched the videos on You Tube to remind myself that it was a great discovery finding.that. great Bonus track.
And I still feel exceedingly old every time I see/hear Alanis. I still remember watchiong You Can't Do That on Television and seeing her as a kid when I myself was a kid. #FeelsOldMan My hands down favorite Alanis tracks Not the Doctor and Wake Up.
Thank you. You just reacted to my favourite Alanis song. I don't think I need to request you any more of hers after this 😊 EDIT: My partner requests you do "Head Over Feet". It reminds her of how we met ❤
Uninvited is to me one of her best songs. Y'all might appreciate this one, it's got the orchestra in the background, but it also really shows her beautiful voice in a way that you don't always hear in her other songs. It would definitely be worth the watch but please do it live!
This album has no bad song. 33 million albums sold doesnt' lie. Madonna signed Alanis to Madonna's label. Shows how smart Madonna is too. Alianis is a Canadian treasure.
After you did Bryan Adams the other day, it reminded me how many insanely good songs he has and I had to go on a Bryan Adams binge again. Definitely do some more Bryan Adams like Cuts like a Knife, Heaven, Somebody, Do I have to say the words, Straight from the Heart, Everything I do, and a few others.
Taylor Hawkins (RIP) was her drummer (this was prior to him drumming for Foo Fighters). This album "Jagged little pill" EXPLODED when it came out. It was so great.
Im happy for all the people who say none of the examples are ironic. You are blessed with being an optimist and positive person. Being a pessimist and expecting the worst at all times every example shows the irony of finally taking the risk and then it ends like this. That IS IRONIC. im happy for you if you missed the point it means you live an easier life than some of us!
I would disagree on this one. Too many times they have concentrated on what was going on in the video and miss some important parts of the song. I always prefer they just have the screen off and just listen.
@@BoltManiac for me, when you think about the artistry behind an artist like Alanis Morrissette it's also about she brought to the table as an artist. Not just musically but what she put out there in terms of visual content; it's an essence, a time period that she captured in her style, her music videos AND her music/lyrics. She was doing something cool, something fun and something we hadn't seen/heard before.
@@MrEriczamorez i can and do respect that, but in most (?) cases the single is out there well before the “official” video and fans can just enjoy the song and let what they heard sink in and think about it. In either case, most reaction video creators are making their mission to react to the song. Most do. I know some clearly don’t even look at the video on their screen while listening (whether is just be basic or one with a lot going on in the video)
Lol btw this song was part of college studies of how the word ironic was used incorrectly throughout most of the song. Most of the situations in the song are not actually ironic.

It would be ironic is your boy hates the color yellow. (Taxi - Sun) .👍🙋♂️🚕🌞
Her song writing is beautiful…this song brings me to tears.
I was waiting for a while for you guys to do this song, it’s absolutely amazing! I wanted you to start your journey with her listening to this song first. Next you absolutely have to listen to Uninvited, I think you will be blown away 😊😊
They covered two other Alanis songs before this one, FYI. And yes, Uninvited!
@@AZambri1
Yes, they did Hand in pocket and you outta know. I was hoping Ironic was the first one they reviewed. I felt like it showed her talent much more than the 2 they reviewed. Thank you for the reply ☺️
Uninvited!!! One of her best!!!
@@hopewelj The song Thank U also really shows off her totally unique voice and range. But Uninvited is my favorite.
I like One hand in My Pocket and you ought to know but I think they've done that. I like that gritty hippy Alanis morissette
This song is as so important to me as a teen in the 90s
I love her video for this. She has 4 personalities in the car ride. It is so fun.
She writes her own songs and she has so many different sounds. Hand in My Pocket is a great song.
Melanie has quite a few great songs. "What Have They Done To My Song Ma" is excellent, as is Ray Charles' cover of it.
Yes! Was just thinking the same thing!
This is my favorite song by Alanis Morrissette. This brings back so many memories from the mid-90s. Good Choice.
If you want to hear vocal ability, try The Sugarcubes, “Birthday” sung by Bjork. Shes also very artistic.
Can't second this enough. Her voice and inflections are almost otherworldly. Icelandic Fae.
Glad you guys are checking out Alanis Morissette she's awesome! You should check out 'You Learn'. Btw none of those things she sings about are actually ironic which in itself is quite ironic! Lol
You learn is so so good
This entire album is 🔥 spawned 5 hit singles!
@@bsanderfer I remember when this album hit big. I bought it shortly thereafter. The whole album is good from beginning to end.
Another great song of hers is called You Learn. So good. She is so talented. Great reaction!! 🙂
You can’t go wrong with any song on this album!
I said before, but it bears repeating, the secret track is a pure gem.
Head Over Feet is a great song by her!!
I recommend "Uninvited" is so powerful. The studio version is great, but the live video would allow you to see her sing live.
And I still feel exceedingly old every time I see/hear Alanis. I still remember watchiong You Can't Do That on Television and seeing her as a kid when I myself was a kid. #FeelsOldMan
My hands down favorite Alanis tracks Not the Doctor and Wake Up.
UNIVITED by ALANIS!!!!!!! Y’all haven’t heard what she can do with her voice until uve heard this track!!! 😉 ❤️
Good one! Happy Easter to you and your family.🐰🐣
Thank you. You just reacted to my favourite Alanis song. I don't think I need to request you any more of hers after this 😊
EDIT: My partner requests you do "Head Over Feet". It reminds her of how we met ❤
Uninvited is to me one of her best songs. Y'all might appreciate this one, it's got the orchestra in the background, but it also really shows her beautiful voice in a way that you don't always hear in her other songs. It would definitely be worth the watch but please do it live!
Veruca Salt!!! Volcano Girls!!!! Get into some 90s girl rock!!!
It rained on our wedding day. Supposed to be good luck! 1977 and still married, lol. Definitely a powerful tune.
Happy Female Friday!! Cool song! Fingers crossed for Allison Krauss!🤘🔥
“Now that I’ve found you” is near perfection. Voice like butter. Delicious butter
Alanis is so awesome ~ and I think this song is brilliant…☺️💕
I love this song. Thanks for the reaction. Please watch Beverley Craven singing Promise Me. You won't regret it
She has the most beautiful voice. A happy voice. Love Alanis Morissette. I REALLY wish y’all had the ability to show the video.
Along the same vein as Ironic, you should check out Howard Jones- No One is to Blame.
Both are great songs in their own right.
I wonder if she was influenced by HJ's song.
His team-up with Sting and Rod Stewart on “All for Love” is such a great song too! :D
@@tarynkirchen5961 yeah, and he teamed up Tina Turner too in It's only Love. That one was really good too!
Would love to see the reaction to Bryan Adams duet with Tina Turner.
PERFECT is my favorite by far!!!! Listen to her song Perfect! Alanis Morisette is flawless and endless!!!
If you really wanna here how great her voice is... react to “uninvited” live at the oscars I believe. Might be wanna of the greatest live vocals ever!
Alanis has a great amazing unique voice, it seems like her songs tell a story.
Taylor Hawkins (RIP) was her drummer (this was prior to him drumming for Foo Fighters).
This album "Jagged little pill" EXPLODED when it came out. It was so great.
Yes, but not in the studio, just played on her tour.
But you all missed the music video! The music video of this song was so iconic!
Recommend watching the official video to the song as well.
Alanis is so original and fun !! Thanks for this one. I was going to say one thing but Diz Jake already said it. lol Did you happen to know she played God in the movie Dogma? Just a bit of fun trivia for you. Oh and Hand In My Pocket is another good song by her.
They did that song a few months ago, that and "You Oughta Know." This is their third Alanis song.
Oh man! Thank you so much. Yet again I discover an artist on your site with many songs I love that I did not know who did them. I am again in your debt.
In the late 90s, Canada had some strong female talent: Alannis, Sarah McClachlan, Shania Twain, Celine Dion. 🇨🇦
Amanda marshall as well.
Definitely love Alanis. YOU LEARN, THANK YOU, and HAND IN MY POCKET are probably my favorites.
