This is why they teach music theory.
I have a thought. Take this same cbg in open G,and switch keys to E. Play open, five, seven as 1,4,5,and do the E on the 4,2,4 with 2nd fret A and 4th fret B. Different key,same progression. Blow a mind or expand one...just a thought. You are the teacher.
It's probably in at least in at least a few of the books I have, but I've never seen the major - minor chords explained that way. I knew the pattern, but have never caught on to the rule of the relative third befor, so thank you for that.

Thanks del, just 2 small things.. No one ever refers to an 8 chord.. Its always 1. Also the 7 chord is not minor it is diminished as it consists of 2 monor third intervals. Thanks, Gary
you are correct but it does have a minor 3rd … and thats as far as i wanted to dive in to for a beginners lesson

@@boogieboxmusic4331 we dont use 8th chords but we use 9th chords, we dont use 10th chords but we use 11th chords, we dont use 12th chords but we use 13th chords....we dont use 14th chords... (so on and so forth...) and why is the 5th chord a 7th chord and why is the 7th chord a minor 7 flat 5 ??

i have a question…. we hear of 9th chords and 11th chords and 13th chords… and so on … yet we never talk about 10th chords ?? or 12th chords … or 14th or 15th chords..? or 8th chords. ??? you know me!!! i like to color outside of the lines… 😎
