another poor attempt at trying to play a ridiculously hard song. enjoy
*DONE BY EAR*
you scare me
WAIT WHAT?!
playing by ear is the only way to play. there is no use for classical music rules anymore
@@painandmiseryproduction3024 this basically is classical music
@@alk3603 yeah but not the theory just the practice.
@@painandmiseryproduction3024 yeah that's true
Well, I'm gonna go study aeronautical engineering now because apparently it's a lot easier than playing the bass.
Pretty well summed it up right there :')
+Alex Khouri hahhaha, it's not that hard when you start. doing what this guy does... well, takes a good ear, good fingers and a good amount of years studying.
Oh yeah, and a 7 string bass with wide neck.
When you think about it... it's actually easier for some people
Best comment I read in last year
Alex Khouri your stupid! Lollolollolollol!
More sweeps than a janitor
LMFAO! :D
you cannot do any of them so go back to clean toilets, and clean them well or we comppalin and you lose your job.
More sweeps than a karate master.
More taps that a cookie clicker player
The song title is almost as technical as the song itself.
almost as technical as your profile pic
+Ricardo Rivera almost as technical as your comment
+xX_dragonzanddungeonzmaster69_Xx Man, that was technical AF
Be careful, the mongoloid HeavyProfessor finished the primary school at the age of 40 like any right wing inferior human.
Reggie Postlethwaite I'm a genius who was born rich. Self-suck, prato...
DONE BY EAR
How... The Fuck
This is sickest bass playing I ever saw.
After reading that, i'll give up on playing bass
***** cannabalistic zombie is god at bass plain and simple he is my idol
Walter Kiernan69 yea right?, how is it possible to recreate every single note in the sweep only by listen to it?
Nyan Roxx I play guitar, but fuck it I suck hard lol
+Classic Bass
Bass God
When this bass has more strings than your guitar, then you know shit's getting real
oh god😂
@@rikki0602 I've send this to Davie 504 and challenged him to play this. What do you think? Will he play this?
@@an_38kitkashyap i dont think so ...... or maybe he is gonna make some "playback" lol

the next person who tells me "bass is easier than guitar" will be forced to watch this video, realise that they are wrong, and then apologise.
I’m sorry
Rest in peace Scott, you were incredible :'(
Wait, who died?
Scott, he committed suicide on the 25th March. He's been battling depression for years. :(
@@NikitsuLaw is this guy named scott? Sorry just confused
@@suspicioushomie6684 it was viraemias original bass player
That is not Scott. Scott's channel is just "scott plummer". Search under "10 string Pathologic Technical Death metal, Viraemia".
"Poor attempt"? LOL holy fuck, that's like, the best cover I've seen for ages.
Not my cup of tea at all, but I can respect how hard it must be to learn to sweep like that on a bass.
Dengius, I think that's a bit subjective, I think it's a quite easy to tap but my sweeps are horrible. The statement still has merit though because it is easier to start tapping but sweeping seems like that sort of thing where when you get into you'll learn fast.
@@crispypeepohole69 it’s not subjective though. The original commenter was correct. It is hard to sweep like this on a bass so stop trying to downplay it.
How you switch from low-end chugging to those lightning-fast sweeps is simply amazing! That has got to be the most flawless and insane bass shredding I've heard in ages. Billy Sheehan wishes he could shred like that!
I fucking seriously need to know how this guy could nail it by ear when I can only hear random sweep picked notes.
Slow it down a little bit, and then replay little, little sequences so you can listen to every single note.
Still extremely hard with such a song, oh god. xD
Unkraut Once you figure out the base notes you can just follow the scale.
lestatv3 Indeed.
lestatv3 Can you explain exactly what scale this song goes in? Everything about this video is beyond my comprehension.
Gaute Rosvold sounds a lot like the diminished scale to me
Viraemia - addicted to sweeping
WHOMST'D 1
No one wrote sweeping bass riffs like Scott Plummer did
There is something about this band and the music that they made that is so intriguing. It's very technical and complicated and yet hardly musical. Such a great bassist.
Michael Mather I’d argue that as far as math rock inspired techy stuff Viraemia is one of the better bands out there, despite having very little published material. There’s plenty of math rock inspired metal music that is just straight trash (the biggest offender being IWABO) but bands like Viraemia, Braindrill, Origin, and Rings of Saturn that manage to ride the line between utter noise and intelligible song structure
Honetly, it's a shame they don't have more content
just slow the music down and see if it's still unmusical
@tshred666 i wouldnt call it math rock inspired metal, its technical death metal and bruh brain drill slaps
Wow, this is actually beautiful. In a trippy sort of way. It's almost like seeing a harpist with those sweep thumb downstrokes and index up strokes. Like modern tech-death can be as brilliant musically and beautiful as baroque classical.
Couldnt agree more
It would take me a decade to get that by ear. :S
and another 1 decade to actually play it :P
Well I'm throwing out my picks
I remember seeing this video not long after you first uploaded it. Returning to it now 10 years later and I’m still blown away
Isn't "Done By Ear" a Cannibal Corpse song?
LOOOOOL
can you play smoke on the water ?
Are you crazy?!
hahaha
cracking up hard lol
believe me, he can't. its rock
lol
I watch this when I'm crying, then I cry more
We have the next Scott Plummer right here! This is insane!
4 Strings: nice
5 Strings: awesome
6 Strings: badass
7 Strings: sick
But everything beyond that is just pointless to me. I mean Viraemias Bassist played this with a 10 String (maybe even a 12 String idk) and it doesn't sound any better than this. Amazing cover!
+K-OnForLife If you can't tell the difference,I just assume you do not play bass.
It's sad that Viraemia isn't making music anymore.
can you tell why??
portgas d. bass II the bassist bassist died, and they released a new song called glioblastoma
@@KetamineBoi-wb7yh was there another bassist before Scott Plummer?
portgas d. bass II ya I saw something and the bassist before was killed
portgas d. bass II nvm they got a new bassist... Scott Plummer committed suicide
But can you play Smells Like Ten Spirit?
@Archer archie Steve you're right it's almost as if it's a joke or something
I want to play bass again now
seriously
Yeah.
RIP Scott Plummer.
And to think that 5 minutes ago I was asking myself if it was possible to sweep on a bass.
I can do that, here, hold my beer
Æinarr Krigsson wait , you need that
@C0DYMCALISTER to be honest, this song was a bit easier, although i have been practicing my sweeps a great deal since my last Viraemia video.
a bit easier........ wot?
wow thats is something I have never heard before! Very unique and epic! amazing playing man!
missing some strings XD
+Kimberly Studdard *DONE BY EAR*

Yeah how else would you do it
+Kimberly Studdard dunno
+Dayne Stafford no tabs zone
i watch this every now and then and it still amazes me
...damn.
Very well done!
you are by far the best extreme bass player on youtube! you really should do some monumental torment and entrails eradicated covers! deep respect for your talent and the will to improve your skills.
I watched this like 10 times now, holy shit
The fuck you mean a poor attempt man? This is art of the highest form, and done by ear just triples the magnitude.
I might not be a fan of this particular style of metal to listen daily, but in no way does that take away from the amazing skill needed to play it.
You are a god among men.
With Viraemia, it's always Sweeps Week.
this man is a full fledged god
Hold me, my beer can do this..
Underrated comment
Every time I watch one of your videos I have to update my Spotify playlists.
"*DONE BY EAR*"
Man...
Congratulations!
Shit. Now four incredible bassists walk this stone. Sweeping arpeggios galore, but posture, articulation, and composure tell me more about the processing power of this Zen master is LIT! But wait, four of them? !iAPOCALYPSEi!
Hold my beer
How the hell is playing this possible!?!?!?!? This is the gnarliest bass playing i've ever seen!!! I hate to say this, but you can completely outshred Jeroen Paul Thesseling who is my favorite bassist
What do you eat everyday?
I don't know what is better, your taste in music, your basses, or you insane skill. I'm thinking it's the latter.
His bass has more strings and more frets than my guitar...wtf
Have you tried this in a 6 string? Scott wrote it on one, proves how much of a BEAST he is! Really really really good attempt, well worked out man!
Davie 504 left the chat
I mean, bbahhaahablehchmeh...I just don't understand how you come up with something like this.
Every time I watch this my mind is blown.
Like every time. Just watched again and mind blown....AGAIN.
I feel like a shitty bass player now. This man fucking kills it kn bass man
Ahh, crap, I just heard these guys for the first time on the radio and you already learned a tune - you're winning!
Dude this is great, you're a fucking beast!
god damn aj, whether its FxFx or anything else you always tear it up
holy shit dude. pro
@CHEWYCHEWYQQ quite honestly the "Erland" way is far more efficient in my opinion. i can hit the strings more clearly and accurately that way instead of using my thumb. the only reason i used both was because i was really sloppy at doing 6 string sweeps the Erland way so i used my thumb. the other sweeps are only 4 string so it was pretty easy.
The thing that confuses me most about this video is working out whether the tarantulas at the ends of his arms are classically trained, or having a seizure?
This song shows what death metal sounds like if you focus on brutality and technicality and throw away everything else. But it's still hard to perform so props to you dude.
tocas demasiado bien amigo así se hace, sigue asi (Y)
really cool to watch.... i didn't read other comments, but i would say this guy loves to practice and it shows..... I'm impressed
And I thought I could play :)))))
Who is this dude?? Most technical bass playing I think I ever seen. Nutty.
If you watch it at 2x it becomes punk.
This is still some of the most inhuman shit I've ever seen! A buddy posted this vid back in the day saying "we got this dude on bass". Me being already familiar with the vid, assumed he just searched the craziest metal bass cover and was messing around. Turned out he wasnt and I've seen this mad man play in person a couple of times. Sick stuff!
And if you stroll down memory lane and see this comment, AJ, I'm referring to Becoming Judas 👌
Hey man, that's fucking awesome, but my friend and I where wondering if you use you pinky finger on the right hand, please give us feedback. (Jack Daniels' bet)
Not in this particular video, but he uses it in ...and time begins from Decrepit Birth.
Your talents... are... just, wow. I can't even articulate how impressed I am. Well done bro.
How would a normal person learn this song?
Indeed. This is above human possibilities, but he did it.
Learning the scales that create that harmony/melodic line and slow down the song/video and you'll be able to pick it out. It's still going to be quite hard to put together smoothly.
Personally Viraemia is a little too technical for my taste, but they are insanely gifted and talented musicians, and this cover is amazing. Impressive stuff.
Wtf did i just listen to
A poor attempt!! I just broke my bass after seeing this!! You're great dude!!
This is one of the 3 greatest videos on youtube about ballet, in this case it's referred to hands instead of a whole human dancing.
I really admire for this, it's really complex, but that *DONE BY EAR* comment is like ''Hey look at me, I don't need any internet like you to learn it, you simple mortal''
But you're a really great bassist, no doubt.
I don't know your name, where you live, or anything about you. But as a death metal bass player my self... you are my hero
Man, after several months you come back with THAT. You freaking rule.
My ears just violently lost their virginity, thanks dude. Sick playing.
I too would like the bass track only, your bass sounds so....pleasing to the ear! God I love your tone!!!
i dont get tired of watching this video...
You play that bass like a cross between a harp and a vertical-piano in the sweeping sections. I love it!
more than the impossible hardness of the song, i am impressed that you played through it pretty much effortlessly
Don't forget this guy plays bass for more then 6 years already, at least that was the time he uploaded his first covers.
Incredible.
best metal bassist in youtube!
Very well done man. I mean, one thing is what the guy from Viraemia created, but reproducing it? That a whole new level of challenge!
+maximuscesar douchebag alert
No man, I really mean it. It's really a whole new level of difficulty to reproduce stuff this complex. I know because I was kinda of a musician in a time in my life.
+maximuscesar oh my bad I thought you were being sarcastic sorry dude
Dude you are ridiculously talented to the point of insanity, keep doing what you're doing.
Done by ear always translates into my mind as "What the FUCK!?!?!?!?" Whenever I watch your videos
This guy studied music theory, 8finger tapping, sweep picking, etc 48hrs a day
Clearly this individual is an alien.
Dunno about the tuning, but Scott Plummer from Viraemia did write this for a six-strings, so you can play this song on a six-strings. You can find the tabs online
Whenever I feel like shit I come to your videos, to remind me that I'm actually less than shit
I remember watching this years ago and thinking a 7 string was massive - now I play 7's and this just looks normal! Still an insane cover!
such a masterpiece! amazing job man!!
well then... i have never seen anything like that done with a bass, all the sweeping and tapping, thats nuts man, you could probably play the guitar parts too haha amazing job man
But he is right. To be fair, he didn't said this wasn't art, he said that art is not made of technique alone. It sounds amazing and I really dig it, but many songs from other bands are less technically impressive and they are still amazingly good
the slide at 1:55 makes it more kickass than kicked ass
I guess the only thing left for me to do now is take the elevator to the roof, light my Bass on fire and toss it over the edge to the street below; and watch the trucks run over it....again!, and again!!, and again!!! You put in some hours dude! You are totally worthy of your ability...I salute you!
You sir earned my like from your fleshgod shirt. Very well done man.
I'm not so sure about what he meant, but I agree with the second part of what you said.
Possibly the best bass performance to date.
