This is so weird... I would AT LEAST want the bathbomb itself to enjoy in a warm bath with a glass of wine. I would feel even MORE duped by this MLM if I didn't even get to enjoy the full scope of the product!
This was exactly my thought! My mom bought me one of those cheapie ring candles a few years ago as a small add on to a birthday present and it was oddly fun to watch the wax disappear and find the cheap ring! Haha
Wait, what?? A $20 bath bomb with costume jewelry inside, but they don't even let you use the bath bomb? I thought the quality of the bath product was also part of the selling point, but apparently it never even reaches the end user? I'm so confused about their product model... Imagine going to Lush & having them dissolve your bath bomb before you leave the store. 🤔😆
They could have had a great gift item. That you give a friend and surprise them that there's another gift inside as they use it on their baths. But I don't understand who invented this whole business model. It's someone on crack and people still went with it.
It’s because they’re not bath bombs. They’re not scented, have no skincare , not made for use in a bathtub. The “bomb” is just a gimmick. It’s not part of the product at all.
I have a family history of gambling addiction and I myself have dealt with a shopping addiction. I clocked this as gambling/habit-forming immediately and I’m relieved you talked about it.
I'm thinking this would be a cute idea for a bridal shower...or a bridal bath. The bride chooses jewelry for the bridesmaids, someone makes the bath bombs (which is super easy to do), and gives them as a gift to the bridesmaids. They get the jewelry AND the luxurious bath bomb, and no one supports an MLM.
That would be a super cute idea! Hide the bridal party gifts from Things Remembered inside a bath bomb. Or a hand poured candle. Very cute idea, I think I might do that for my step daughter’s wedding. Thanks for that idea!
I have a bath bomb company. And bath bombs with surprise items are always a big seller. But it’s absolutely BONKERS that people buy these without actually being able to use them. Like that’s the whole damn point.
I don't work for them BUT you do NOT HAVE TO have them fizz the ring online. when u buy the ring you put in the notes if u want them to reveal it online OR send to ur house to do a home reveal. Like A LOT of kids rings get sent home so the kid can fizz it.
It’s comments like these from people who are just making assumptions that are ignorant as hell. Nowhere does it say or is it sold as a dang bath product. Those are the cheap gimmicky 25 cent rings.
We should do a review on your home made bath bombs and the chemicals and fragrances and does you put into them that you don’t list. The toxic crap you have people soak in to be luxurious I’m sure. Totally different company all together. But you wish you were these sisters that came up with this genius idea. And you could never come close to competing so don’t be jelly girl!
Along with the dopamine inducing gambling structure, the parasocial nature of these “parties” are also an appeal to loneliness; the rep is talking to you, addressing you directly, sharing personal details about their life…it feels special and personal. It’s a really sad reflection of the isolation so many in our society feel.
This is so true. I discovered this organization just in the last two weeks. I’ve been stuck at home with my kids and we have been extremely sick. I was scrolling on UA-cam and these live parties started popping up. I don’t even like rings or jewelry like this but it made me feel like I wasn’t alone, and it felt so nice to have on while I just was in a time of having no contact and not much support. I was tempted to even buy a ring that I knew I wouldn’t wear because I just wanted the interaction or something! And the gambling comparison is real too- I’m glad I searched them on UA-cam cuz it can be such a trap if you’re vulnerable, which I’m normally not lololol
If anyone finds this topic interesting and wants a great read, Stanford neurologist Robert Sapolsky wrote a book called “Behave” that helps explain the physiology of this whole phenomenon. Our brains are wired to enjoy reward that is tied to risk. He also has a great series of lectures here on UA-cam.
I was about to comment exactly that - I see the target customer (aside from the MLM rep herself) being lonely and/or have a spending addiction. When you’re incredibly lonely, being part of this online “party” could be appealing. I feel so sorry for anyone being taken advantage of by these reps and this company.
22:33 you hit the nail on the head. I'm exactly the same way. I want to KNOW what my money is buying. My mom always said everything actually has 3 prices. -The literal price on the tag. -The value of the item. Is it worth the price they're asking? Will it solve a problem, fix an issue, save me time, etc. What value is it going to perform in my life? Or does it just sit on a shelf and look pretty? (not a lot of "decor" in my house lol) -And the cost. Different from the price... This is what is it costing ME? Is this 5 hours of minimum wage? Is this a nice dinner I can't have later in the week? Is this new boots I won't be able to afford come winter? Is it costing me space in my house I can't afford to give it? The money/time/space/energy this thing will take has to come from somewhere else. Am I ok with not having that money/time/space/energy later on? Because that's what spending NOW is going to cost me LATER. Everything has 3 prices and you should do your best to be ok with all 3 of them before purchasing. Miss ya mom!
What’s truly sad is that these ladies only make ~$1 - $2 per bomb / necklace / earrings / bracelet sold after netting out expenses. That’s why there isn’t an income disclosure!! 😔🤬
Okay, I’m laughing so hard at the prices because I’ve worked at two jewelry stores, and NO ONE is selling cubic zirconia and gold plated rings for three digits, especially after it’s been in someone’s bath water. 😂
Right?! I have some lovely sterling silver rings with cubic zirconias and pretty fake stones I have bought from jewellery stores and I have only paid like $30 .
I had an ecommerce job where we were selling 925 silver rings that looked a lot like this in the £30-£40 range. They were secondhand, but secondhand sterling silver jewellery is easy to make good as new again.
This is super reminiscent of the oyster pearl parties where they take a bunch of dead oysters, shove like 30 fake dyed pearls inside of them, and open them up on livestreams for people to buy
We got some of those oysters in the 90s for Christmas, the fun of it was opening them yourself. My parents purchased them from JCPenney or QVC. They even sell these things at The Dole Plantation, they aren't some rare exclusive MLM only item like the claim. Knowing what we know now, we haven't made that a family tradition with the new generation. You see the horror stories of how they either smell like rotting seafood or formaldehyde and how the pearls are soft trash pearls, I didn't have that experience, but I'm not willing to gamble on it.
So weird they don't sell the bath bomb! Also, you can get jewelry bath bombs from pearl bath bombs without supporting an MLM and enjoy the ACTUAL bath bomb
Could you please give me an example of a legit jewellery bath bombs company? I must admit that I love the concept but there is no way in the world that I'd purchase from a MLM
@@unacarstensen3181 yeah! Pearl bath bombs is legit. You buy direct from their website, plus they have fun bath bombs, not just plain fizzers and they have bombs where you know exactly what piece you'll get inside as well as some with the mystery option
I’m so glad you covered this! I actually purchased from BP because I thought I was helping a small business and didn’t know it was an MLM for months until someone said “join my team” then I realized what it truly was. I got rid of any jewelry I got from them.
"diamond cubic zirconia" is like how they will sell fabric labelled "poly-silk" hoping that nobody will check the actual fiber content which says 100% polyester (I worked at a chain fabric store for years and yes they do this and they just mean "silk-look polyester" not "silk blend" it drove me crazy)
You are absolutely right-I had reacted to the “game show” feel of the online parties, but your analogy of gambling is much better. The “you almost won; keep trying” and “never know what you’re gonna get” and even the cowbell ringing sound at each reveal is alarmingly reminiscent of a SLOT MACHINE. It would not surprise me if this were intentionally psychologically engineered to tap the same brain reward systems that are targeted by casino games, especially slots. Creepy.
Being a casino gambling addict these tactics light up that part of my brain. Thankfully knowing the actual value of this trash makes them easier to avoid, though I am a sucker for the trinket/stone scoop from the Chinese sellers which are cheap too but properly reflect the market cost of the items, instead of the bait and switch of the jewelry bomb and oyster schucking scams.
It’s not creepy! It’s behavioral science called intermittent reward system. Ie slot machines function on this science. I’m not a rep, nor have I purchased any jewelry.
I can't imagine spending "triiiiiiple digitttttts" for something gold-plated. My wedding band was custom and $600 for 14k white gold and white sapphire. These people need to learn about etsy!
My fiance bought my engagement ring on Etsy, it's $600 ish and rose gold, uniquely crafted and so pretty! Meanwhile I can get cubic zirconia at the jewellery store for $20, and my kids' Treasure X toys have little gold plated parts to them as part of their selling point and they're not three digits 😂
@@lottearr that sounds super cool, I think it'd be fun and funny to get a mood ring since I've always loved them, but a higher quality one than they normally are
I have seen cubic zirconia marketed as "diamond cut", meaning it is a cz but uses the diamond cutting style guide. And some do use "diamond cubic zirconia" as a shorthand for that. It's still just a regular cubic zirconia, but it has been cut using diamond designs/styles so that it looks like a real diamond, at a glance at least. So not an outright lie, just...marketing misdirection, trying to create an (unfounded) association with expensive/exclusive products in the mind of the buyer. Still a scummy practice, but within 'allowed' scummy parameters.
Never mind the "stones." You mean this company sold a rhodium coated ring for $20??? I work in the industry and Rhodium is $14,000 an ounce. I once held a solid mass of it no larger than my palm (after extracting it from machinery) and it was worth $40,000.
Hello I am a GIA graduate gemologist and I absolutely agree with you. There is no way that ring is worth over one hundred dollars. The mass market price for cubic zirconia is only a few dollars per carat which is why it’s used in so much costume style jewelry.
I managed the jewelry department of a higher end department store for about 7 years and learned a lot in that time. You're 100% correct that the actual worth of a rhodium (assuming over brass maybe? Not silver at that price) and CZ ring isn't going to sell for $129, but there's more to this than just MLM shadiness. The entire time I was at that jewelry department out items were on sale. Never, ever did someone pay full price. The sales would vary slightly (probably to encourage specific lines to be purchased) but they were always large percentages off. Gold chains, for example, were at a minimum "70% off" all the time, but might flex all the way up to 80% on occasion... but is that 80% off really 80% off? No, not if the week before and the week after you could have just gotten it for the 70% price. This is super pervasive in the jewelry industry as a whole, and while I've heard that truly higher end jewelers don't do this I do think it makes sense to mention in relation to bomb party, since we all know they aren't dealing with high end jewelers anyways. To come full circle - that $129 ring might have a $129 price tag on it in a department store, but then it's 80% off to make you feel like you're getting a deal and you walk away still paying twice what you would have on Amazon. In a way it makes the way they're talking about pricing feel even MORE predatory, or if not that at least uneducated about jewelry.
I’m not into mystery boxes but the whole thrill is opening it yourself, no? They’re basically ruining the experience and just sending people random jewellery they couldn’t pick for themselves lol
Blind box/gacha culture can be dangerous enough to people with impulse control or who are easily addicted but adding an M-LM business model to it is just insidious. I'm not against gacha/blind box, and play lots of games with this element, but I do think it's not well understood or really regulated and adding a predatory business angle on top is just top shelf assholery.
I'm against it at this point because I, someone who is fairly against gambling and was raised in a strictly anti-gambling household, developed a gambling addiction playing a blind box mobile game without realizing what was happening. I was 24 at the time. And most of these games/activities have an element of targeting children who don't have fully developed impulse control yet. It's fun and harmless when it's like, a $6 Shopkins mystery toy, but even those can get completely out of hand.
The loot box / gacha concept is very widespread in video games. There are tons of popular games that give players loot boxes for a price. People buy them in the hopes that they can get that rare weapon/item but most of the time they will get bad items, which will make them spend more. The rare item being available for a limited time adds another layer of urgency. In fairness to these games there are ways to "buy" these loot boxes without spending actual money, you just need to grind by doing in game tasks and saving your points to "buy" these. Gacha vending machines that give you a random toy is also extremely popular in Japan, some people even spend a lot just to collect all the characters.
I'm aware of what they are, as I participate in both digital games and physical gacha/kuji draws. Hopefully this will be helpful for someone else though?
Not to be rude, but I didn't ask. There definitely needs to be more information as well as clear and open disclosures about costs and odds/chances though, as I do feel for people who fall into the "just one more time" mentality, or those who just didn't realize they were gambling.
As someone who has ADHD and prone to risky quick decisions, when she was announcing how much it retails for and rang the bell for over 3 figures, it spiked my dopamine as you said the “rush“ of gambling and whenever you win a slot machine for example, you get the winning bell or the loud sound that means ‘YOU WIN!’ Seems like some sort of tactic or manipulation that, I agree with you, can pray on those with money issues.
A lot of these bath bomb MLMs *reek* of preying on gambling addicts. Gambling addiction is absolutely horrible too, it's not a chemical addiction like drugs but it can often be so much harder to break.
Same! I don't have an ADHD diagnosis (yet), but I had a similar reaction, and if I had come across this when I was really young, it could have been detrimental to my family's finances.
As someone who's watched hours of these BP tiktok lives (while I had covid and couldn't do much other than scroll on tiktok), I think I can clarify a few things. When it comes to repeats it definitely happens and it happens often regardless of if you buy from different reps, each collection has a set amount of styles and at times they bring back older styles and put them into other collections. On some of these lives if a buyer gets a repeat they will gift it back to the rep for a giveaway and then the rep pushes for a "like goal" anywhere between 50k to 200k likes for the ring. I have noticed almost all these huns have at least one other job and a lot of them give extra gifts and prizes out which I imagine eats into their profits. They also all seem to have their own personal collection with an insane amount of jewelry. You'll often also see reps buying from each other and encouraging others to do so. And when it comes to repeat customers it's unbelievable, these customers are there every single live spending hundreds of dollars because they're hunting a specific style of ring. There was one woman who got the rep to use a fake name so her husband wouldn't know she was buying more. Also when these huns get these repeat customers they start encouraging them to join their team and start their own business.
Glad you're feeling better. Isn't great that you can actually take the time to rest when you're sick, & not have to constantly work to recruit for "your" business? :)
Hannah, you are 100% right about the psychological aspect of the reveal parties. You know how some video games (especially mobile games) entice players to buy loot boxes that may or may not have some rare items? That's what this MLM is: Microtransaction loot boxes disguised as bath bombs.
I just recently came across your channel and holy crap! The first thing I said was "It can't be a diamond and a cubic zirconia at the same time!" 😂 This might be the most bizarre MLM I've ever seen. And I live in Utah, so I've seen A LOT.
as someone with ADHD who can't be trusted at auctions and who has never been able to gamble due to addiction risk I know that trying something like this would be dangerous for me.
Also, you are my favorite anti MLM content creator. I like how you blur out faces, speak so elegantly and respectfully. You never talk badly about the people just their actions within their MLMs. Says alot about your character and it’s really admirable✨
This reminds me very much of those "pearl parties." Anyone remember Vontel Pearls? People would purchase an oyster, and then the rep would open the oysters on a live and see what pearl was inside. Then the customer could pay to have the pearl set in various jewelry pieces.Of course the oysters were dead, preserved and just stuffed with cheap pearls. They would also do the ridiculous valuation of the pearls and falsely tell people that they were worth so much more than you paid, and there was also that "you never know what you're gonna get" gambling element. But Vontel shut down suddenly and just abandoned all of their distributors. This really makes me wonder if the people behind Vontel Pearls are now running this MLM, just because the concept is so similar. I actually like the idea of a prize coming inside a bath bomb - but only if I got to dissolve the bath bomb and then find something cute or cool inside. I could see it being popular with kids too; they dissolve the bomb in the bath and find a little toy or trinket. But I really don't at all understand the appeal of a bath bomb you can't dissolve yourself!
@@Aweirdmushroom96 I was for a while too! haha I never wanted to order anything but there's something oddly fascinating about them. I used to watch them at night as I was falling asleep.
Or those candles that have rings in them when they burned down... Since Walmart sells almost the exact same cheap jewelry for, like $5, they have to come up with some kind of hook to draw people in to buy their crazy marked up garbage. I guess this is it.
I get it. I would hate my kids being gone for a week, with their dad or anyone. And she is working a MLM while the kids are gone, where she won't any money. Sad.
Why are we judging that sentence like we know her life and circumstances? We have no idea when that video was made and for all we know it was summer and the kids were off at camp or grandmas or their father's. We don't even know if her kids are even minors she could still have her adult children living at home and they went on vacation for a week. Don't even know her from Adam and you wanna speculate. Newsflash, people in mlms aren't horrible mothers. 🙄🙄
I decided to read through their complaints on the BBB. Bomb Party replies to every complaint with reasons that it isn't a real complaint. Someone said they got broken jewelry and couldn't figure out how to return it. BP customer service said it's easy to return and said "it appears that complainant has buyers remorse." They are over on the actual BBB website gaslighting people and making it seem like they are just complaining to complain, not because there are actual issues.
The commission in this company along with most MLM’s is so low for selling. Anyone in an actual business knows that profits margin isn’t sustainable with al the other cost for running a business. Hence, recruiting is a must🤦🏼♀️ And exactly what you said, most stay at the bottom rank. I was in the MLM industry for 9 years! Took me way too long to wake up! So thankful I did and started my own business thanks to creators like you💜💜
I love those bath bombs that have little trinkets inside but in that case the product is the bath bomb and not the thing inside. So it doesn't really matter if the thing inside is a little plastic toy, it's not really the main focus. This business model of watching someone else dissolve the bath bomb just makes the cheap jewelry inside worse imo.
I bought a jurassic world bath bomb that had a little dinosaur keychain in it. It was way better than any shitty mlm jewellery. The bath bomb was nice too, I love the lemony smell you get with all bath bombs.
I struggle A LOT with a shopping/gambling addiction, and let me tell you this video had me twitchin. Glad I saw this before coming across a Bomb Party live stream because I am their exact target audience.
In love with how organized you are. In love with how you literally go straight from the source. Making great points not just mocking the women working for the mlm. Exactly how it should be done! You are amazing!
“Get in early” is exactly how to put it. In the 90s, when home parties seemed to be all the rage, a friend of mine got into Pampered Chef early. She had a HUGE team!
Wait - so you don't even get to have the fun of dissolving the bath bomb yourself? Now i don't understand even less as to why it's appealing to people.
You can buy it directly from the company and open it yourself it’s only if you open it during a live stream that they open it for you but you can ask them not to and ship it as well
Excellent deep dive, Hannah! I’m home sick in bed today and was scrolling TIkTok, and wouldn’t you know! I saw my first “bomb party” and I was fascinated. All the red flags you mentioned immediately went off in my head while watching too. Keep up the good work! Glad you’re feeling better.
This is probably the stupidest MLM I've seen so far. Who on earth would buy this stuff, and who would want to be a rep for it or try to recruit others to this? You are too kind, as always!!! Great video.
Having worked in the jewellry world, given the value, there is no way CZ and usually silver base metal with rhodium plated, that the rings/jewellry is worth the pricing. And certainly not worth up to $1500. The rhodium plate will wear off. The CZ will never sparkle like a diamond. CZs will never have the real look of emeralds, rubies, sapphires, or amethysts. Silver is a soft metal and the prongs can lift or break and the stone could be lost. Run, don’t walk away from this.
I got weirdly offended that it's not even an actual bath bomb you can use and it's just watching a strange lady dissolve a bomb in a bucket on stream. That's awkward.
I’m not defending them but I did ask in one of the livestreams and it’s optional to have it sent to you to dissolve or have them do it on livestream. So people are CHOOSING not to do it themselves… which is even more strange imo but it could be an ego thing.. wanting others to know what they got.
@@dreammore4868 I think that depends on the person because I've seen other comments on other videos about Bomb Party where they didn't know that the bath bomb would be dissolved, weren't told, and then were told after "you have to ask me not to dissolve it if you want it sent to you whole" when that isn't made clear and therefore the reasonable assumption is that you're purchasing a full bath bomb. I guess if you're new to it you can get duped like that, and that in itself is scummy af.
You are one of my favorite anti MLM channels. As a former victim of NUMEROUS MLMs during my early months of being a new and vulnerable stay at home mom I really appreciate the anti MLM community and the support you show here on your channel as well as the debunking of all the most common MLM myths
I'm not going to lie, the concept for this is really cool. If it *weren't* an MLM and they were just *honest* about the quality, I wouldn't mind paying $20 for cheap but ok looking jewelry that gets revealed on a livestream.
I actually thought that too. With or without the bombs. You could prob take the idea and do it yourself. You could even make them as bath bombs so people can use them as well.
The discussion about the gambling aspect really hits me in the "mystery box" feels. I love to order "mystery" of things I want, like leggings and bracelets, but they're usually cheaper when you get them in the mystery packs.
@@lizajane2971 I respect that. I figured I knew they were athletic leggings, in the size I wanted, with pockets, and I really didn't care what color they were. Totally worth ~$10 each.
My favourite pair of athletic leggings were a mystery bag, picked a size top and size pant and they sent me a set at half the price. I'm also the type of person to choose whatever on the menu I've not heard of and have no clue what it'll be.
I'm such a sucker for mystery boxes. I used to be subscribed to a makeup one and it was the best. Like 90% of my makeup collection came from those boxes. There are some things I'm picky about and want to pick for myself (like clothing), but especially when I was just getting into makeup, it was really cool to be able to explore random stuff that I wouldn't ever think to buy.
In Japan “ lucky bags” used to be pretty big at the beginning of the year before COVID, but the reason people would buy them was that the value inside is usually double, triple of what you pay. I did buy stationery ones as I use basically everything, and some 20$ bags would get me at least a 80$ value. Same with socks. All items have prices and labels and come from the shop stock so you can clearly check what the original price was and what value you got (and even then, especially for clothes people wouldn’t buy them so they’re getting rarer now). The fact that for this MLM you cannot confirm prices and there’s no jewelry certification (at least judging from this video);is super shady imo.
Why wouldn’t people just reverse-image the pics of the jewellery they like the look of, to find a cute Etsy or other online store who has something similar....?
I just came to find a video on them before I ordered . I like to research. As far as people getting addicted …. They definitely do ! I’ve watched a couple of the more popular live TikToks for hours , the same customers every time and they order multiple items at every live party . They’re definitely hooked !!
Omg this is the mlm I just got out of! Thank you so so so much for this video there wasn't hardly any dirt or anti mlm content on them when I got talked into signing up.
i’ve been watching anti-mlm videos for so days now and i JUST now realized a lot of people at my old church are in an jewelry mlm. i guess seeing the live selling parties jogged my memory.
Tiktok live is beyond wild.. In my feed I have seen tarot/psychic readings, people selling scoops of random crystal stuff, people opening farm raised pearls, even a literal home birth, and bomb party stuff. I never knew wtf would be the fun in having the rep do the bath bomb reveal for you? Like is it not an actual bath bomb? Or just a fizzy casing? This all seems extremely sus
I truly don’t understand how anyone would think this is a good way to spend your money. Like you, I want to know exactly what I’m buying. I appreciate you shining a light on this very bizarre MLM. Hopefully, you can stop some people from joining and/or buying these very cheap products. Keep up the great work! Also, so glad you took time to rest and recover. 🥰
I've myself have been guilty of the mystery bath bomb jewelry. But only cause they were gaint bath bombs. That I could use ans would make my skin nice.
@@mlduran12I can afford it but why would I? It’s a joke. There’s nothing great here. I will just buy own nice jewelry and my own bath bombs and I even get to use the bath bomb myself, this is a waste of money and weird.
This, in my opinion, is the absolute WORST MLM out there! You continue to amaze me by the amount of knowledge that you have on these MLM‘s, and you bring new ones to my attention every time I tune into your channel. Being a recovering alcoholic, I could easily see how I could be sucked into this one. Alcoholics, Gambling addicts, as well as any other kind of addict, all seek to satisfy that rush. Which, I think, this MLM would do perfectly, and what makes it so dangerous.
Saw a very similar party reveal... but with clams and pearls. Pretty gross with the additional disregard for animal life. I don't know if it's a mlm model, but i would not be shocked if it is. Great video. Thanks for the fluent conversation!
I’ve never heard of this company, so I put off watching this video, but I have to say I LOVE how you structure your deep dives. So clear, concise and well organized. I was so intrigued the whole time!
I find the shadiest part about their jeweler is they stated its plated without including what was coated. Which unfortunately can be more or less any metal, which is how people get scammed by fake jewelry (compared to being told it's an actual precious metal) even outside MLMs.
i don't understand the point of the product reveal streams from the point of view of the customers. why would i buy a mystery box just for someone else to open it for me? part of the fun of mystery boxes is opening them yourself. i get that it's good marketing for the huns but for the customers it's just weird imo
Ummmm. I used to buy cubic zirconia jewelry at Claire’s…. When I was 15 lol. Don’t think I would have been able to spend +120 dollars for Claire’s jewelry. 😂 Edit: just remembered Claire’s used to do a mystery box thing at checkout too and the one time I bought it, I hated almost all of the jewelry in it haha. So, I’m with you Hannah, I cannot deal with the surprise lol. MUST know all details plus everybody’s reviews on item before buying said item and committing to spending money on it haha.
Oh the Claire's "mystery bag" You only ever buy 1 cause you realize they are either barely marked down but about expire makeup or left over jewelry with some down-trending band or cartoon they needed to clear shelf space for 🤣
I don't remember the mystery boxes at Claire's but there's a Canadian company called Ardene (which I think is also in the US, but I don't know how widespread it is) and it's pretty similar (except that it sells clothes too). I was a SUCKER for their $5 mystery bags when I was a preteen. I stopped buying them after like five bags though because I was done with accumulating tacky sunglasses lol but I def relate to the dopamine rush of not knowing what you were gonna get!
That gambling connection you made is exactly what I was thinking as you were explaining the randomness of the jewelry. It is absolutely a marketing ploy by the company to hook people in and keep them spending and watching the lives
I was a bomb party rep for a year or so. I was on the bottom of my team I couldn't recruit people because there's so many reps. I spent more money on inventory than I ever made. The leader of my team was making six figures while the most I made in a month was $50. Those ranks start over every month. So say you reach peridot executive consultant in the month of January come Feb first you drop back down to the very bottom. To reach the first earning rank requires reps to buy at least buy $350 worth of product. So before you buy anything in February you are not at an earnings rank unless you have a large downline. They tell you to make sure you invest in product on the first to get back up to your rank. So for me to be at the lowest rank with no downline I had to buy $350 worth of product regardless if I have sold anything. So if I didn't make a sale in two months I've dropped $700 to buy product just to be ranked the topaz consultant.
So glad you feel better now. I’ve been binging on your MLM playlist and really appreciate how you approach the topic of MLM and the people within it. Keep up the great videos , lots of love to the kitties . Their appearance in a video certainly makes me smile a bit more.
Thank you so much for showing what the Bomb Party is all about. I was curious, because I have bought from Fragrant Jewels in the past. They have bath bombs, but I take showers, so only bought a couple of their candles. Even though they promote the chance of winning an expensive piece of jewelry, they are at least more honest with the worth of their jewelry. $10 for the rings I revealed myself. I still have the rings, but have since stopped shopping FJ after finding out they were an MLM.
You are fabulous !! You explain so eloquently and thoroughly every single point on why these MLMs are nothing but scams. You are amazing at what you do. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.
I would want to use the bath bomb myself. Also 100% hate the just sitting in silence waiting for the rep to do things. That may just be a personal preference but its making time drag on.
This is exactly how those pearl parties work on Facebook. This is how they got me (the pearl parties). I have addictive tendencies and the whole gambling aspect really made this all come to that "AHA moment" I hate that they roped me in, I had no idea at the time it was an MLM. I thank you and others like you for making this content.
I was just about to say this!! A girl I went to school with did these and I was fascinated watching them because I couldn’t fathom people buying things like that without being able to see it in advance
I want to thank you for putting out this video i know people and even myself wonder how this bomb party work and now that you have explained it in full detail i can gladly stay away from it. thank you so much for this information
Thank you for making that gambling connection, it’s the first thing I thought of when I saw the first video with the lady using a bell like if at an auction or casino.
Love your deep dives, so educational and well presented. This company sounds like a lularoe / paparazzi / pearl party hybrid. Hope this video gives people a sober second thought before they join the cult.
You know… the seller probably gets a lot of dopamine from getting to do the bath bomb part and finding out what piece is inside and then they don’t even have to buy it for themselves. It seems also like a tactic to recruit people cuz that seems like the fun part tbh
Here’s the thing-The seller DID have to buy it themselves, just to resell it and reveal it on the livestream! That’s the MLM part! It’s a dopamine hit over barely breaking even! It’s sooooo scummy and messed up
I loved seeing the jewelry coming out of the bath bombs I revealed at my parties. Each host can do things a little differently but most reps run their parties about the same. I joined bomb party during the pandemic because I was stuck inside this gave me the chance to socialize with others. But I'm glad I got out of it because I was padding everyone else's wallet while mine grew cobwebs
I have been so anti-MLM for years, but I still found myself ordering some of these rings. I think as somebody with adhd it really does itch something in my brain to watch these reveals. I’m glad I watched this video to bring me back to earth, this company is definitely dangerous for some people. I’ve watched some of these customers on the live buying 10-20 rings throughout the length of the party. It’s addicting and really shady. Also these consultants are on like for 10+ hours at a time not even taking breaks to eat.
i love your videos because of how informative, empathetic and levelheaded you are. but i also love watching some of the other anti mlm creators because i loooooove the drama. and you BUYING THAT RING to see if it is the same gave me the best of both worlds 😂😂😂
I remember buying a lot of ring candles back in the day, but it wasn't an MLM. I really liked them because the candles were huge and they had so many great smelling ones, especially the Christmas ones. I think they were like $16, and they would do something similar with bogus appraisals of the rings but I didn't care about "worth", the ring was more like a fun bonus with a nice big candle. This made me want to do them again lol
Hannah, based on this video, it sounds like this is not a jewelry company, it is a gambling MLM. I mean, I didn't know one could make an MLM less ethical, but they found it. It really is not about the jewelry style or quality, that is beyond the point. It is only about the rush and the mystery. This is kind of like how Starbucks is not a coffee company, but like an environment or lifestyle and coffee is just the excuse to sit on the chill place all day. Starbucks could use more automated coffee makers, but they threw those out for coffee makers with steam and levers. It is about the show and atmosphere, not the final product (cheap coffee).
These parties kept coming up on my fyp and I was getting mlm vibes so googled and your video popped up! I thought it was odd how everything was plated and lab made, looking like kids jewellery and they’re saying estimated retail is $$$ I was like yeah that’s not right
Giving me gambling vibes since the dollar value is up in the air. It’s NOT like buying those merch boxes for books or movies because they try to be very transparent, even telling everyone what’s in it ahead of time.
The design of the rings are cute but there’s no way they worth more than what you’ve paid for that dupe. I’m ringing a cowbell to that. P.S.: I’m glad that you’re getting better.
I am on day 5 of listening to your videos at work at home at every second of the day it’s just so calming even sometimes I’m not really paying attention/ listening
I started buying Bomb Party jewelry two years ago and I was immediately hooked. It is definitely addictive and everything you are saying makes sense. They give you hopes of finding diamonds for only 19.99 and you could get something worth up the 1,500. I am so glad I watched your video because I spent way too much money on BP jewelry. You are just being honest. I think I am going to take all my jewelry to a real Jeweler and see what it is really worth.
I just got clued into this MLM in the last week. I have to say their new stacks are super cute and cheap looking at the same time. I have not broken down and purchased one but I was soooo tempted. lol That being said, I'm totally hooked on watching the live parties. There were women buying 6 stacks (they just came out) at a time (at $40 each). I did do a search and found the $1500 diamond ring reveal. It was set in sterling silver and not gold and while it was a pretty ring, there's no way it was worth $1500. It was worth more than the $20 it now costs. If I need something to have on in the background while doing chores, I have been putting on one of these live shows for kicks and giggles. One sad note - one woman bought 1000 of the new stacks to sell. Considering I've watched a couple of shows that have very few viewers (single digits) and one that only sold to one person, at what point are they going to start dumping there extra products like the lularoe women? The items do sparkle online though and I think that's what draws them in. If you saw them in person priced at $40 for the bracelets, there's no way you'd actually purchase one.
hey! i am actually a rep, and your point about the "diamond" cubic zirconia is so spot on! i actually always leave out the word diamond if i do reveal one of these and just say clear cubic zirconia... now, with that being said, i do still take the MSRP values with a grain of salt and always assume its a farfetched price. i do this solely for fun and not as a money-making plan for myself, i do genuinely think the jewelry is pretty and the process behind it is fun. BUT i try to be as transparent as possible. also on the point of letting the buyers reveal them themselves is totally a possibility. if you dont want me to fizz your ring bomb, i wont. i can send it to you unfizzed so you can do it at home :) all love from me, i have been against MLM's up until finding BP, and i only joined because i seriously do love jewelry lol
Glad you're feeling better! These bathbomb things are so baffling to me - If the jewelry was really THAT valuable, the company would not be able to run.... PLUS, if they really were that valuable I would think it would be more profitable to just, get all the jewelry bombs and sell the stuff inside it yourself
I'm so glad I found this. I just all of a sudden started seeing TONS of these lives pop up on my FYP and I was so confused on why people were so hyped about this "costume jewelry" which is exactly what I thought when I saw it. I immediately went digging for the reeeeaaal story and I'm so happy I stumbled on your video.
I love you girl!!!! Keep on exposing these people that are getting rich off of people who really don’t understand !!!!!! YOU ROCK!!!! I have subscribed to your channel and I sure will be sharing your. Channel!!!❤
Haha
@@erinmeadows14 Right?! Like.. at least give me the damned experience of a bathbomb!
Agree so weird!
You can actually ask them to send it to you instead of fizzing it on live. Sadly I’m addicted to watching 😂😂
Oh my god... you just wrote all the thoughts in my head. Why waste a bath bomb. SO SO WEIRD.
Let me get this straight. So I would buy jewelry from an MLM, without knowing the exact type of jewelry AND I don't get to dissolve it myself??
That is correct 😂
Lol nope, no thanks 😅
Ya not appealing at all
@@Mama_Bear524 Yeah, you buy something, and somebody else has the fun with the bath bomb? No thanks.
this makes it so much worse.
"You had a sinker and a floater, Miss Tiffany" sounds like she's praising a toilet-training toddler.
Yeah lol it wasn't very appealing 😮
That plus the cow bell...I mean HOW MANY examples of symbolism do people need to realize this whole thing is a pile of 🐂 💩???
😂
Wait, what?? A $20 bath bomb with costume jewelry inside, but they don't even let you use the bath bomb? I thought the quality of the bath product was also part of the selling point, but apparently it never even reaches the end user? I'm so confused about their product model... Imagine going to Lush & having them dissolve your bath bomb before you leave the store. 🤔😆
My thoughts exactly!!! 😂😂😂 WTH?
its not exactly a bath bomb. its not scented, just basic colored baking soda. you can also ask them to send the bomb to you so you can do it yourself.
I audibly gasped when she said that the consumer doesn't even get to disolve their own bath bombs
What a lovely idea!
@@Hollister74 etsy too. Etsy jewellery is gorgeous
@@motherlessgoat72 I have a replica of The Noble Ring from fire emblem from Etsy. It’s beautiful
That would be a super cute idea! Hide the bridal party gifts from Things Remembered inside a bath bomb. Or a hand poured candle. Very cute idea, I think I might do that for my step daughter’s wedding. Thanks for that idea!
Absolutely amazing idea!
It’s the surprise
It’s comments like these from people who are just making assumptions that are ignorant as hell. Nowhere does it say or is it sold as a dang bath product. Those are the cheap gimmicky 25 cent rings.
We should do a review on your home made bath bombs and the chemicals and fragrances and does you put into them that you don’t list. The toxic crap you have people soak in to be luxurious I’m sure. Totally different company all together. But you wish you were these sisters that came up with this genius idea. And you could never come close to competing so don’t be jelly girl!
@@megancolasono1108 youre taking this way too personally and diving into personal attacks on a stranger. Are you a rep perhaps?
This I 100% agree with.
EXACTLY! Plus the sense of community, people have facebook groups where they talk about their collections and stuff
(not a lot of "decor" in my house lol)
-And the cost.
A lot of wisdom in that! Thank you for sharing it!
Love this and will use this to help teach my kids (and as a reminder for me!)
My mom taught me the same and it’s such a good way to look at life and the way to spend money!
What’s truly sad is that these ladies only make ~$1 - $2 per bomb / necklace / earrings / bracelet sold after netting out expenses. That’s why there isn’t an income disclosure!! 😔🤬
And the only way they are able to make money is by building a team. 🚩🚩🚩🚩
Okay, I’m laughing so hard at the prices because I’ve worked at two jewelry stores, and NO ONE is selling cubic zirconia and gold plated rings for three digits, especially after it’s been in someone’s bath water. 😂
LMAO
🤣
@@adriabaier9755 sssuuurreeeee a ‘jeweller’ 😉
Im starting to see those pop up on tik tok too sadly
I thought the same thing.
Exactly! I used to watch a lady who did the oysters. I guess that must be an MLM too. Makes sense.
It’s so gross, I can’t imagine anyone would think that was a good time 😁
So weird they don't sell the bath bomb!
Was going to look this up because I actually love the idea of it but don't want to support this brand
That’s what we are doing
@@TrueCrime_n_Controversy who is “we” and what exactly is it that you are doing?
I’m so glad you covered this! I actually purchased from BP because I thought I was helping a small business and didn’t know it was an MLM for months until someone said “join my team” then I realized what it truly was. I got rid of any jewelry I got from them.
"diamond cubic zirconia" is like how they will sell fabric labelled "poly-silk" hoping that nobody will check the actual fiber content which says 100% polyester (I worked at a chain fabric store for years and yes they do this and they just mean "silk-look polyester" not "silk blend" it drove me crazy)
I hate poly-silk :( I fell for it once before I learned more about fiber
You are absolutely right-I had reacted to the “game show” feel of the online parties, but your analogy of gambling is much better. The “you almost won; keep trying” and “never know what you’re gonna get” and even the cowbell ringing sound at each reveal is alarmingly reminiscent of a SLOT MACHINE. It would not surprise me if this were intentionally psychologically engineered to tap the same brain reward systems that are targeted by casino games, especially slots. Creepy.
this is such a great observation! you're so right!
Excellent catch on the cowbell. I didn't even notice it.
Yes! And the *new* of each month keeps that you almost won feeling going
That sounds really quality, and I definitely agree about the etsy thing
My fiance bought my engagement ring on Etsy, it's $600 ish and rose gold, uniquely crafted and so pretty! Meanwhile I can get cubic zirconia at the jewellery store for $20, and my kids' Treasure X toys have little gold plated parts to them as part of their selling point and they're not three digits 😂
Hell, I'd go for the rainbow moonstone as a wedding ring for $100+ on etsy. Affordable and gorgeous
@@lottearr that sounds super cool, I think it'd be fun and funny to get a mood ring since I've always loved them, but a higher quality one than they normally are
They really do. My bridal set(engagement and wedding bands) were apx $400 and are solid rose gold, morganite and black diamonds.
That's a good point!
I assumed they were referred to as diamond cz because April's birthstone is diamond, with this being the April boxes.
Ahaaaaa
that’s what I figured they meant, but agreed lol still shady
Never mind the "stones."
You mean this company sold a rhodium coated ring for $20???
You can purchase unfizzed. I'm not a party host just saying
I got you a gift! Lemme open it for you...
It's the same psychology behind slot machines, isn't it?
As someone who has ADHD and prone to risky quick decisions, when she was announcing how much it retails for and rang the bell for over 3 figures, it spiked my dopamine as you said the “rush“ of gambling and whenever you win a slot machine for example, you get the winning bell or the loud sound that means ‘YOU WIN!’
Seems like some sort of tactic or manipulation that, I agree with you, can pray on those with money issues.
A lot of these bath bomb MLMs *reek* of preying on gambling addicts. Gambling addiction is absolutely horrible too, it's not a chemical addiction like drugs but it can often be so much harder to break.
Huh. I have adhd and this sounds like a terrible deal
The impulsive question on the assessment suddenly makes sense.
@Esther street
Gambling affects individuals neurologically, just like with drugs. It alters dopamine & serotonin output.
Same! I don't have an ADHD diagnosis (yet), but I had a similar reaction, and if I had come across this when I was really young, it could have been detrimental to my family's finances.
Literally these people are ALL OVER my FYP right now. Of course you’ve already talked about BP!! So nice to learn the backstory of this company
Omg, that's so scummy and predatory. This business is built on enabling and exploiting life-destroying behavior. Thanks for sharing the extra details.
Glad you're feeling better. Isn't great that you can actually take the time to rest when you're sick, & not have to constantly work to recruit for "your" business? :)
We love true time freedom! 😂
Come on now, Boss Babe's can do this all the time (in their dreams, of course).
Hannah, you are 100% right about the psychological aspect of the reveal parties. You know how some video games (especially mobile games) entice players to buy loot boxes that may or may not have some rare items? That's what this MLM is: Microtransaction loot boxes disguised as bath bombs.
I totally agree with the gambling aspect of this mlm. I was listening while cleaning and it reminded me of a circus side show. Such a scam.
I’m slightly obsessed with Pearl Parties lol
My Mom ordered us one of those from Home Shopping yrs ago. They came with sterling necklaces that held the pearls. They were actually pretty.

Nothing wrong with not having them for a week. Maybe at the grandparents, she may have have an ex, could be a camp. Your comment is dumb
Whaaaat! Now I know what I’ll be reading over my morning coffee 👀
💯
I'd so rather drop $7.50 at Target and get a fizzy bath bomb with a tiny plastic alien inside.
I bought a jurassic world bath bomb that had a little dinosaur keychain in it. It was way better than any shitty mlm jewellery. The bath bomb was nice too, I love the lemony smell you get with all bath bombs.
I bought my teen granddaughter a box of bath bombs at Costco for Christmas as a quirky fun gift. Each had a prize in it.
Mental health. People who struggle with it don't have the healthy function to stop themselves and feel the revulsion of what they're doing.
I'm so greatful for your channel. I'm Mormon and MLMs target a lot of my friends and family because of the values we hold. I can't thank you enough.
Mormons and MLMs go together so often.
@@carolsummers8734lol why is that? It is SO TRUE
Part of it is how they act like your friend and how exciting it is to show you this great thing they've unveiled for you.
You buying that ring off amazon and showing it on screen, including the lovely packaging etc. was soo effective for this video! :)
It's the trailer park version of QVC, with some carnival prize vibe going on. and I wonder what the environmental impact of this product might be.
You are one of my favorite anti MLM channels. As a former victim of NUMEROUS MLMs during my early months of being a new and vulnerable stay at home mom I really appreciate the anti MLM community and the support you show here on your channel as well as the debunking of all the most common MLM myths
Me, a gamer: Wait, so MLMs independently invented lootboxes?
😂
they took the gacha life too literally
I'm not going to lie, the concept for this is really cool. If it *weren't* an MLM and they were just *honest* about the quality, I wouldn't mind paying $20 for cheap but ok looking jewelry that gets revealed on a livestream.
Exactly. Their stuff is cute and the live streams are so entertaining but nonetheless it’s an MLM so it’s hard to support it.
I actually thought that too. With or without the bombs. You could prob take the idea and do it yourself. You could even make them as bath bombs so people can use them as well.
I agree, thanks for your honesty. I feel like everyone jumps on the hate bandwagon.
I just watched CC Suarez's video on clam pearls, and now bathbomb jewelry!? WHAT is going on!?
The discussion about the gambling aspect really hits me in the "mystery box" feels. I love to order "mystery" of things I want, like leggings and bracelets, but they're usually cheaper when you get them in the mystery packs.
@@lizajane2971 I respect that. I figured I knew they were athletic leggings, in the size I wanted, with pockets, and I really didn't care what color they were. Totally worth ~$10 each.
Mystery boxes in games are my vice
I’m getting out of it too
@@autumnfutrell9211 did you get out? Was it hard to leave?
The cow bell is killin me lol
I had to edit the audio levels down soooo much on those parts because they would blow your speakers out 😂
Woohoo, I've been looking forward to this one! Can't wait to watch some tepid water barely change color. Also, cute sweater!
i’ve been watching anti-mlm videos for so days now and i JUST now realized a lot of people at my old church are in an jewelry mlm. i guess seeing the live selling parties jogged my memory.
It's literally "surprise mechanics" all over again. It's the same as gambling, loot boxes, kinder eggs, whatnot. Same thing, differently packaged.
The scoops of random crystals just baffle me. I fell down that Tik Tok rabbit hole once. 😬
That I could use ans would make my skin nice.
some people like surprises and mystery things. not that weird.
I buy more expensive jewelry at express and guess and they’re costume. Some people can afford to spend $19 for a surprise
And what is the base metal? Is it hypoallergenic? Is it safe? So many questions.
i don't understand the point of the product reveal streams from the point of view of the customers. why would i buy a mystery box just for someone else to open it for me? part of the fun of mystery boxes is opening them yourself. i get that it's good marketing for the huns but for the customers it's just weird imo
Yes!!!!
Ummmm. I used to buy cubic zirconia jewelry at Claire’s…. When I was 15 lol. Don’t think I would have been able to spend +120 dollars for Claire’s jewelry. 😂
Edit: just remembered Claire’s used to do a mystery box thing at checkout too and the one time I bought it, I hated almost all of the jewelry in it haha. So, I’m with you Hannah, I cannot deal with the surprise lol. MUST know all details plus everybody’s reviews on item before buying said item and committing to spending money on it haha.
It’s exactly Clair’s
I’m sorry you got sucked into an MLM. And I’m happy you’re on the other side🎉❤
Your videos are literally my life saviour. Hope you are getting better ❤️
As a recovering shopping addict, you are right on the money with your train of thought ❤
No I’m 💯 with you. It’s so dumb. And super weird. Why even call it a bath bomb? Because it’s not
They don’t call it a bath bomb!
This MLM is giving pearl party mlm vibes. Such a weird roundabout way of tricking someone into thinking the product is valuable 😂
I was just about to say this!! A girl I went to school with did these and I was fascinated watching them because I couldn’t fathom people buying things like that without being able to see it in advance
saw a rep do a tiktok live and was curious if it was an mlm so I searched it on UA-cam & of course you got it covered ❤
That's a great point!
Here’s the thing-The seller DID have to buy it themselves, just to resell it and reveal it on the livestream! That’s the MLM part! It’s a dopamine hit over barely breaking even! It’s sooooo scummy and messed up
They don’t even push ppl to join lol funny how ppl talk so much about something they know nothing about.
Right? This whole entire video is a jealous joke lol @@Itsmejenn1111
And to be clear I watched your video a year ago… so I already knew about this but man… it’s really gained soooooo much more traction since a year ago
i love your videos because of how informative, empathetic and levelheaded you are. but i also love watching some of the other anti mlm creators because i loooooove the drama. and you BUYING THAT RING to see if it is the same gave me the best of both worlds 😂😂😂
But why would I buy a bath bomb if I can’t even use it myself? Like obviously mlms are terrible but that’s the bit that truly baffles me
Hannah, based on this video, it sounds like this is not a jewelry company, it is a gambling MLM.
More cowbell! Someone had to
WE NEED MORE COWBELL
@@maryeckel9682 lmao damn I didn’t see your comment before I made mine 😂 that’s literally my ultimate favorite SNL skit.

As a Jeweler, these ring only USD 1 or more lower prices.🙃
I understand your pain with spending too much too late.
