OOC: The advertising segue and integration with the video are _excellent_ again. Tiniest quibble - the use of non-self-tapping machine screws is cute and is definitely the right way to introduce some slight texture variance. It's also comedic watching you struggle to screw them down. The quibble comes in that they're exactly the wrong type of connector for securing decking down at that scale, unless the platform was built by construction mecha with gigantic powered screwdrivers. (it's not impossible in the Omniplex that this is actually what happened, so I have to acknowledge it.) Humans building the platform would have used large hex bolts. That said, it _looks_ cool as hell and I like you too much to even think that hand grinding down that many screws to make tiny custom hex bolts is a good use of your limited time on this Earth. I might have cackled aloud and said "I WARRRRRRRNNED YOUUUUUUUUU!" when Vitalis needed extra ankle securing because of a lack of calf spurs. I really like the "insulated kiln" - that's good model-making if you can hover the temp between "hot" and "plastic deformation of PLA hot", which I think you can/did easily. The tiniest aesthetic suggestion I feel needs making is to slightly raise Vitalis's left arm - the diorama makes it appear as if Doctor Hawthorn is mid-presentation. It would be neat if the pose of Vitalis implied that it was in some sort of mirroring or direct control mode under her command. The implied story there is that while Doctor Hawthorn may not be a Mechsmith, she is a seasoned veteran of the trenches of the Academy. Having the Mecha mirror her movements as she talks allows for the kind of understated theatrics that Administrators, and investors, eat up. Overall, you've got another winner that's well-situated in your growing and refining aesthetic and lore. You and Gameyy Builds are the builders to look up to in this space, and the stories implied by the Omniplex are compelling.
Thank you for the in depth comment, I always appreciate reading these 😁. I'm glad the sponsorship has been integrating well and I never want to do a jarring 30 second ad spot for any possible partnership moving forward, so I'll do my best to keep things fluid and not mess up the pace of the videos. As for the screws, I definitely agree that Phillips is not the way to go - it just happens to be the smallest size screws I have. There's a reason I use M2 and M3 hex bolts for my builds, and it's exactly the logic you mention at scale. That said, grinding down a handful of screws (maybe not like 50) could be a very cool idea for some detailing... Could you elaborate on what you mean by calf spurs? I assume I'm missing something in the general design that needs to be a piston or something connecting to the heel. I like the idea of mirroring the person with the mech! It's too late for this build, but I will gladly "borrow" this idea for a cool future project one day! I like your mention of her being a seasoned veteran with administrative theatrics - that would have been a great bit of story telling to throw in. I'm honored to be mentioned alongside Gameyy Builds, and I'm hoping to find more ways to do clearer explanations on what exactly the Omniplex and the surrounding world are really about!
@@proto.roborovski If you check the last video, you'll find a second comment from me - presented as being "in character" from someone observing the in-progress construction pictures of Vitalis. It seemed like a fun way to present ideas for the bot's design. One of the suggestions was to add a "cloak" to the figure as a visual indicator of layered EM/Radiation shielding - with the in-world excuse that humans who attempted to scavenge the periphery of Neo City Zero used what amounted to flexible Farraday cages to protect their bodyworn equipment from EM effects. The other, while basically noting that Vitalis's feet looked undersized, was suggesting the addition of a secondary foot assembly, attached at the back of the calf area, to prevent the mech from being knocked onto its back. I presented them with the idea that the calf spurs were the complex suggestion and the cloak the simple one, knowing full well that the cloak is harder to make at scale - so it got most of the comment's wording so that the design was more straightforward to understand. But, when it came time to paint, and the LEGO ball joint was _too_ compliant, I had to cackle because the exact thing my character had said would happen, happened. I cackled because when it comes down to it, I am just mean. Sorry.
@@bearnaff9387 Haha that's brilliant! Not sure how I missed the comment, since I get notified of each one, so I'll have to go back and find it. Love your ideas!
