There's a small handful of off-grid channels that inspire me, and you are definitely in that list! Last year I bought my land, this year I moved out here and next year I start building.
Build the cabins, build the UA-cam, quit the job, begin your dream, share the dream with your family and live happily ever after. Glad to see you in the woods again! 🌲🏠🌲🌲
I was in the film industry for about 15 years. Quitting was one of the best things I ever did. It's an incredibly draining industry. I always felt like there was very little to show from my efforts.
I was building an enclosed tree house for the grandkids a few years back and noticed some of the boards had black discoloration but not where the sticker boards were when stacked. I washed all of the interior walls with a dish soap solution and a few days later used 10 to 1 chlorine bleach solution. The black was gone and never came back.
I love your production skills. I felt like a bird flying through the trees. The siding looks nice! You’re 35 🤭. Your just getting started. I’m almost 62 and still “gettin after it”, and I’m a girl. By the time your my age, you’ll have cabins all over the mountains. ☺️
Thank you for not hurting that orb weaver! She was beautiful. I think a cool-toned medium brown (like Valspar's Swiss Chocolate) would look great, and would make the black windows pop.
I'd test the "discoloration" on the wood for mold. There are test kits at the home improvement stores. Better to check now than after it's closed in. I'm an HVAC technician working for a company that deals with mold remediation. Some folks are or become extremely allergic to mold. I've seen people's health wrecked. The cabin is looking great!
@@weekendhomeprojects No mate, I leave that to the experts. I might do a walk through once its complete with the small amount of footage I filmed when it was being constructed.
You should space your siding gaps in different spots for one it's not cosmetically correct for two it causes a water waterfall effect when the rain hits the first one it will bleed to the second one which will lead to the third one which will get even deeper behind the siding.
Soon I will hopefully start building my own little wood cabin. Your channel is one of the best and I learnt a lot about wood constructions just by watching your videos. You are such a inspiration. Keep on
Good to see you back at it again! The spider, (i think) is a marbled orb-weaver. Not sure why i know that though. Get after it! The view at the cabin looks so nice with the autumnal leaves etc.
Long time follower, and your drone footage and music is def getting up there now. Lol today’s was beautiful. So jealous of the fall colors! We don’t see much of that here in Australia. Love watching and listening. I’m a huge one for natural wood tones or black cabins. Blacks makes all seasons colors pop! 😊
Maybe I’m wrong but that mildew could be a bigger problem once your all weathered in. Maybe not during winter but….. maybe think of spraying it at this point in construction.
35:03 isn't this how it all started for Peter Parker? Upside would be that roofing becomes way easier! I'd go for a darker brown, which would look awesome with the black windows and grey roof!
I seriously look forward to my “Saturday morning cartoons” (WG vids) every week. Love that this is where your passion is, I’m all for you putting more time and energy into showing us all what you’re building!! Get after it Graeme!
Praying that you and the family are doing great. Remember you're blessed with family and others that enjoy watching what you do. It's a great adventure many don't get to do. Enjoy every minute of it. Love the videos. Keep up the good work.
Wow siding is totally making the cabin look, well look like a cabin, awesome! Def can see that progress being great mental therapy. What caulk will you be using to fill the gaps?
Gman you are an inspiration to us all, everything has a time and a place, its our job to make the time, and find that place and you sir are doing JUST FINE! Proud of you my friend!!
Another fellow Canadian here. Nova Scotia Glad to see you back Graham(sorry if not spelled correctly) Love, love, love that cabin build. Hope you can get everything you want and need done before winter sets in. Waiting for the next one. Thanks
Keep doing you. I’m over than you, 44, and I passed my midlife Crisis with nothing to show for it. Keep up your hard work, it inspires guys like me who might get a ‘last 3rd leg of life Crisis.’
Graeme, good job on the siding! I’m not an expert, but it seems like you’d want to prime any cut edges like those notches for the windows, not just the ends.
Graeme, I know you're all done with the metal roof now, but a tip for the future, with those self tapping screws, run them in reverse first, use it to make a little divot in the metal for the screw to sit in, then drive them in. I hate those little bastards, had way too many of them go flying off a three story build while I was working construction for a company that built pre-engineered steel buildings.
I think that if this channel and building cabins is what makes you the happiest, I say do it. I’m at an age where I cannot and now have a few regrets. Wish I had the option at a younger age to do what I longed to do. You go for your dream and don’t look back. 👍❤
Holy Woodness Midlifecrisisness baby!!!! if you think you’re going through a midlife crisis pal, you are sadly mistaken. You were a teenager like 10 minutes ago and when you reach my age, you’ll know what a mid life crisis really is. It is definitely the right mindset to live your life doing what you love. Everything is looking pretty damn good especially that siding and it will definitely be a big help when you close up that structure so you can work in the winter in comfortable environment. Keep the great videos coming big G.
I fully support Woodness Goodness going full time. Adding some kind of podcast from the original cabin in the yard to talk to wood workers of all kinds from all over would be so welcome.
@@WoodnessGoodnessAnother UA-camr I’d get onto a podcast is Scott Pilgram Carpentry. He’s on your wavelength and is in New Zealand. He could even give you his reactions to some of your projects.
We’re on the same brain wave buddy. It’s something about this age I’ve heard. I’m in NC, so this time of year has me jonesing to build something in the woods.
Do what you love! I was never in a position to when I was younger, but I’m older now and am seriously ready to quit my two jobs to build my own cabin. All I want to do is read piles of old books that I’ve accumulated, sit by the fire and enjoy the peacefulness that surrounds me. 🌲🌊🍄🟫 Enjoy this adventure and again, do what you love! You’ll never regret it!
Loved this video. Great start to the weekend. Loving the siding, this cabin looks so good already, excited to see it closed in and stuff. Wishing you luck in getting folks together for those windows! If I was out there I'd volunteer
Good to see ya back at er Graeme the siding is looking great👍it is quite the job to do on your own the extra hands help especially when there is ladder work. The Tyvek is ok there is nothing wrong with it we use it a lot here in the North eh here in Canada we use it on our igloos to keep the polar bears out Lol no but it is great for the colder moist envirorment like there in them thar hills. Take care young lad of thirtyfive you have lots left kid keep doing what you love because before you know it your old like me. Take care and God bless💙😇👍🇨🇦
You are only 35, You have plenty of time to get things done. I'm 65 now & constantly doing work at my cabin. Most of my friends tend to only show up during hunting season.
Post weekly and they will watch :) and hopefully subscribe. You're worth the click and then some! A favorite aspect of your vlogs is your willingness to show that you don't know it all, but learn as you go - just as with the rest of us 12:33 :) I believe tyvek is very necessary - and I think any builder anywhere along the east coast would agree.
If that is pine, it could just be "blue" staining. Which, is fine. But you can tell the difference between blue stained pine and mold because mold will rub off and smear if you rub the surface. Pine with blue staining doesn't rub off, it's in the wood and it's not mold it comes from a fungus that isn't destructive and is kind of living in the wood of many/most pine trees. Doesn't really affect other species afaik but definitely happens with pine. It's totally fine. So basically, you should try to wash off the discoloration to see if it's mold or not. If it washes off or smears, it's mold. If it doesn't its blue staining and it perfectly fine.
Check out Sherwin Williams “Porpoise”. It’s a great earthy green that will blend amazing nice with the trees there. Just used it on our cabin in SE OK. We have the same color roof as your cabin and we used the LP Smart side also. Turned out nicely.
Spray bleach and water mix on your boards and that mold will disappear very quickly. I just did this to mine. I got that in my cabin when water got in before I had the roof done.
Mold and Mildew grows in higher RH. Like 60% RH plus. Close the cabin in and dehumidify the space to prevent it in the future. Vinegar/water 50/50 works to remove it. Also, mental health is as important as muscular or spiritual health. Take care of yourself to feel the benefits. It's not always easy, but you can do it.

20 acres in Eastern Ontario. I know hard it is for these offgrid UA-camrs, and I would never attempt it!

I would recommend spraying Mold Control by Concrobium. Use soon before closing in the areas. It eliminates and prevents mold and mildew.❤
This person knows what they’re talking about. Mold Control will kill the mold, bleach and water will just hide it.
Those opening drone shots of the fall colors were awesome

For lapboard corner, mitre and use 3x1 mitred finish capping..... vertical of course...... Canucks way...lol
By the way, use level once, mark and then use chalk line....saves enormous amount of time....and cut a template for spacing
Saves money too
