  • Meet my new one-of-a-kind Signature Series NuRAD, by Berglund Instruments and Mark Steiner.
This stunningly beautiful creation features a hand-carved walnut body. The dramatic sweeping curves across the top surface of the instrument are meant to symbolize the life-breath that flows through the music, infusing an expressive voice that is rooted deep in the soul.
Alongside the laser-etched Berglund Instruments logo, three autographs testify to the legacies that have brought this masterpiece into being: Nyle Steiner, inventor of the EVI and EWI; Johan Berglund, creator of the NuRAD; and Mark Steiner, nephew of Nyle, masterful woodworker, artful windsynthesist and imaginative sound designer, whom I am now honored to call my friend. I am eternally grateful to these three men for everything they have contributed to this very small, very special corner of the musical universe.
The juxtaposition of wood, metal, and blinking lights captures the essence of the musical identity that I strive to express - sounds that are earthy, organic and visceral, yet still possessing a transcendent, almost other-worldly quality, beyond the physical realm. The updated handlebars are another innovation from Nyle; they’re adjustable, and optimized for support, balance, and comfort.
This elegant fusion of visual, tactile, and aural aesthetic is profoundly inspiring. To me, this instrument is truly the “Stradivarius of windsynths”. I feel almost unworthy to play it, but I look forward to the musical journey that lies ahead.

LOL, I'm sure that subconscious influence sneaks its way into my improvisation more often than I will ever know. 😆 Live long and prosper, Tom.
