My dad is one of the volunteers at Solway museum, they have been looking forward to the arrival of the Bev and are very happy they can continue it's preservation.
I visited Fort Paull several years ago, & had a very nice experience discovering the BB & learning about this unique plane. I was initially a bit shocked to see her being dismantled... But I hope that she finds a good home at the Solway aviation museum. When I visited & clambered around her, it was a windy day that had her creaking & moving in a fun way. I had no idea that she existed until my random visit... Being the only one of her type to still exist. I wish the Solway guys the best. I hope they make use of her cavernous interior? But I also hope that they allow people to clamber around & explore her? It is a marvalouse unique airplane. Recently I was talking to one of my older friends down the pub. He actually jumped out of one back in the day... Thank you. I wish her the best! ;)
Glad to see it on its way to Solway. Im local to Hull and have see this story over the years and i know its been challenging and ultimately dependent on the time and money being given by many people so im glad theyve made it to a point where the plane can be saved.
G'day to you! So good to see the Old Girl getting the Help she Needs, good bit of TLC is what she wants, we have to look after our History! Perth West Aust.
I am not sure if this was the same one but I was officer i/c the Beverley when I was at RAF Finningley in the mid 1960’s. We used to take ATC Cadets around it. It was all complete and in good condition. Very popular with every one wanting a view and walk round. Happy days. Rmb5*
It was a great lumbering aircraft which i jumped from on quite a few occasions and i loved it Unfortunately i never got the opportunity to do a descent from the boom Still great and wonderful memories of the Beverly, Hastings, Argosy, Hercules, including the Wessex and Chinook helicopters Good days.
I’m 76 & and in ADEN in 1967 I flew in a Beverley up country , and ever since I talked about the plane that landed on threpeny bit and took a hole runway to get off the ground
Many years ago whilst on an ATC Camp at Thorney Island, I missed out on a 41/4hr flight ( Thorney Island, - RAF Valley - St Mawgan - Thorney Island - air experience flight as myself and one other cadet, having never flown before - were suspected as being liable to air sickness and so were not allowed with the rest of my 2216 Pontypool Sqdn. Had to settle for 15 minutes in an Argosy after sitting on the grass at Tangmere for 2 days waiting. Even missed out on the trip to see The Historic Sailing ship in Portsmouth. Thorney Island was having the runways replaced at the time so Argosy's were flying to Tangmere to take on fuel and continue training, Hastings had been dispatched to N Africa and Blackburn Beverly,s were making few flights but having to refuel as were not able to use reserve Runway with full loads etc.
Hi. Whatever happened to the one at the RAF museum in Hendon ? Thats the only Beverly I knew of. My uncle used to be a loadmaster on the Bev's and I can always remember him telling me about them. Good luck with the project. Regards.
In the 1960s this aircraft was called the city of Beverley and stationed at RAF Boscombe Down in Wiltshire. I was a paratrooper in the RAF Regiment and stationed at RAF Colerne Wiltshire and we tested the new (at the time) PX type parachute jumping out of this plane.

Didn’t there used to be one at Beverly? I know they had a cockpit or something but it is years since I was there. Good to see this important type being preserved.
People dont realise once they are gone you cant get them back, They are part of history and need to be preserved , transport planes are the work horses and Beverly is one of a kind , Look forward to further videos on her progress, I live 12000 miles away but who knows I might win the lottery and come and see her fingers crossed , keep the dream alive

It pisses me off no end that Cosford can spunk thousands on a Do17 wreck off the seabed, but do nothing for an iconic type that did sterling service in all theatres for years. I know it's big - its Achilles Heel, but they've managed with the Belfast and Argosy. Once this is gone then that's it. A wasted opportunity.
@@Pte1643 Blackburn Beverley C1, XB261 / 1004, Historic Aircraft Museum had plenty of other historic aircraft to check it out on Google. Only the cockpit is left at Hendon

Is the airplane to be restored for display or for flight? I assume the first.

Fantastic to see this being saved. I didn't know that the Army ambulance carriage was still there, though.
It is for now, not sure what is happening with it.
I know a former RAF Chef from Beverley. A Blackburn Beverley was in RAF Halton used by the RAF 1st School of Technical Training
Good idea to chain the wheels I expect they were concerned someone might steal it.
